I came here with my husband on our honeymoon. We were supposed to stay two nights, but left after just one because it was that bad. We paid for half board each day but for some reason the restaurant didn't have a table for us despite us arriving on time for dinner along with everyone else. They then scattered, gave us incorrect menus, and it took forever to get service. The food was tasteless, disgusting, and even inedible. My husband couldn't actually eat his crab in his pasta. They gave him two crab claws in their shell without the tools to actually break the crab open with. When we went to bed we discovered that the mattresses had broken springs and felt like we were sleeping on plywood. I have had a better night's sleep backpacking in Yosemite and sleeping in 24°F temperatures on a rock. This was truly one of the worst hotel stays of my life and I travel Europe and North America frequently. I have a lot of patience, but this was truly unacceptable.

Those travelers familiar with Maui who read this post (few, probably) will understand when I say that Procchio is the Kihei of Elba. That is, it's situated in a pretty central location, East to West, which makes it convenient. But it also doesn't have that much of a cultural center feel to it. It's a small place, with good hidden beaches. And the Hotel Valle Verde is a good place to stay there. We noted that there were many families with kids. There is a pool as well as a beach, and the parking is convenient, either above the hotel, or just below. There is a breakfast (and apparently a large lunch and dinner as well, although we didn't opt for that). But mainly, this is a great starting point for a trip to Elba. If you are traveling to Elba with kids, this is a good choice. If you are there on a romantic set of days, then maybe take a look at staying in Marciano Marina, or Marciano (up in the hills). Either of those two spots are easy to get to, though. Rent a car, or as we did, a scooter. It's all good.

We spent 10 days at this hotel and only wished we could stay longer. The position is very good with semi-private beach just 5 minutes walk from your room; the beach is very nice and has very good lunch service and bar. The crystal clear water slopes in gently which makes it perfect for young kids. Snorkeling is really nice, most of all on the right side as you swim toward Procchio. The rooms are basic but nicely appointed. The dining area has a great view of the bay and serves very good quality food with attentive and personalized service. The front desk went out of their way to book several excursions and restaurant for us. I especially recommend this hotel to families and group of friends. I only found 3 areas that could use improvement: - the AC in the room is not very cold and seams to turn off in the middle of the night; - the bed is a bit too hard - The wine was always a bit on the warm side. All the rest was excellent.

Set in beautiful grounds the hotel blends with the landscape. The elegance and style typically Italian. The staff the crowning joy - friendly, humorous, family loving. A nature lovers haven. The beach a wonderfully secluded cove. Bus stop right outside. Local town a short walk for shops, cafes and ice cream! Food - 4 courses of beautifully presented, very tasty, imaginative local food. Can't recommend this hotel more highly.

We chose this hotel for a short stop over on our way to Malta in our aircraft. It was a punt as we knew nothing of the area. Firstly we are fit, so the 42 steep steps from the road did not cause us a problem, if you have a health issue look elsewhere for accommodation. The sea view room with balcony was a good size, comfortable queen bed, good bathroom with shower bidet etc. Although the sea view was limited by trees, we could just about see it. The beach was a five minute walk away downhill, remember uphill on the way back. Breakfast was good extensive and could be taken on the patio in the morning sunshine. We had half board for the three nights here, we were not disappointed the food was good, the wine list extensive and not too expensive, we chose wines produced on the Island. English is spoken by the manager fluently, the staff have a very basic command but we had no communication problems. The only down side seemed to be that the bar didn't seem to be open prior to evening dinner service But that may be as we were there early season, we just put a couple of bottles of prosecco in the fridge in the room and has a couple of glasses prior to defending to the dining area. Would we stay again, yes, no reservations at all.
