There were many positives here, firstly fell in love with Elba. Hotel is very well placed easy to find and park, without a car it would be isolated set in it's own ground which are very well kept and tidy the pool was never busy and the whole place very easy to relax. Breakfasts were very good d the standard of food was OK but I felt the evenings were hurried, and staff wanted to be home Negatives were there was no where to have a drink in the evening or before and after diner. or get a drink when we were pool side The rooms were on the small side the balcony's were not big enough to sit at and there were no seats in the room the ground floor rooms did have chairs out side WiFi was very good

We stayed at this place a couple days ago and we were not happy with the hotel at all. It is hard to understand why people rate this place so good, as everything we experienced was below average standard. Starting with the room, not much to say, as they offer motel like, little rooms, with a metal bed and super hard mattresses. If you like a clean but very frugal interior and a bathroom with absolute no possibility to store anything you are at the right place. The real disappointing part was the half board dinner we booked. Whenever you are in Italy you expect at least the food is exceptional. Not in this place, we started with good pasta, but from there it only went downhill. 2nd course was fish, the fish was out of the freezer, totally overcooked and salty..... We could not finish it. 3rd course was a fresh vegetable buffet..... The buffet was empty, only cane food was in bowls available and as we asked to refill the veggies, the super unfriendly waiter told us we should eat what's left. Dessert was a very dry cake with a liquor (some people may like it) and the wine selection was also very poor (only 3 or 4 different wines in total). My experience in Italy over the last 30 years is, you are either disappointed or completely stunned how good it is, nothing between!! Unfortunately Il Caminetto belongs to the first group and we found much nicer and better managed places on Elba compared to this place for similar cost.

This is a great place to stay on Elba. In Portoferraio, overlooking the hills and the sea. Rooms don't come cheap, bit the food does and the menu is excellent. The view from the restaurant is great. The boss is an Apple freak (the best beaches for the day are displayed every morning in the reception on a vintage Macintosh from 1982, and the couple is very kind, always open for a little chat or to help you out with info about this lovely island. This was our fifth hotel on our stay in Tuscany, and could only recommend! Great place!

We stayed at this hotel in April of 2012. It is in a great location and is easy to access any part of the island. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful landscaping. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We traveled for 3 weeks throughout Italy and I can honestly say the best meal we had was at this hotel's restaurant. We loved the atmosphere and the food was superb. The hotel has been in the same family forever, Gianfranco and Patrizia truly make you feel at home. They are the best!

In the countryside, away from the bustle of the seaside towns and hotels but within very easy reach by car of the capital city, Portoferraio, and the beaches. The room was nice, no a/c but ceiling fan, opening to the garden. Open-air swimming- pool was great. Breakfast was plentiful, and the restaurant very pleasant in the evenings although there was room for some improvement food-wise. Still a good choice if you don't feel like looking for a restaurant in town. Dogs are accepted, which is very important to us. The hosts were always available and helpful, with info on the best beaches to go according to the prevailing winds or other places to visit. They also very kindly assisted with planning the rest of our trip.
