After several weeks of visiting Italian cities with their glorious museums, churches, and archaeological sites, we needed the beach! The Cilento coast offered us exactly what we wanted. Since we were traveling without a car, we wanted to be close to the water in a small town. Palinuro was perfect. The hotel is nicely sited, a 10 minute walk from a delightful small cove with a refreshment stand and a nice beach on the crystal-clear, blue-green water. The people at the desk also kindly arranged for a cab which, for €10, took us to the lovely Marinella beach a few kilometers away. (The hotel also arranged for a taxi pick up at the train station upon our arrival from Naples.) Our room was pleasant, with a balcony that could not have offered more spectacular views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, sunsets, and soft breezes. The hotel is located on the main street in this small town, which meant we were treated to the evening passeggiata. We especially enjoyed the small bar and gelato counter adjoining the hotel, with a terrace that had fabulous views of the bay. …
Unfortunately the weather was somewhat inclement when we arrived - so we didn't see the place at its best. We were allocated a pleasant room with a dual aspect which was very nice - with a small balcony and it was very clean and spacious. Breakfasts were excellent - you could order omelettes and there was a good choice. The hotel staff were very helpful too but there was little ambience as it was out of season and not many people were resident. There was a really great bar at the side of the hotel - it was unclear whether it was separate to the hotel or part of it - but it was the only area where you could sit out of your rooms - other than the dining room. The staff there were really friendly.
When traveling to Italy in October there is not a long line at the buffet in the morning. As my wife and I enjoyed the gorgeous view of the sea during breakfast the waiter brought seemingly endless cups of cafe. The room was great. With views of both the city of Palinuro and the ocean I felt like we got the honeymoon suite. But we didn't. We looked at both the suite and regular room and saved the travel dough. The regular room was just as good. Staff was so friend from "ciao" (hello) to "ciao" (goodbye). Next time we are in town this is where we will stay.
This hotel is a gem of a place, our room had a balcony with the most incredible view over the harbour area. The quality is excellent with nothing spared (other than tea making equipment which is our only criticism) We arrived on the eve of the local festival which made for a great experience, the hotel is situated midway on the main street which both evening turned into a street market. At night we were treated to an incredible firework display viewed from our balcony. despite being the end of the season the festival ensured a a great atmosphere. The breakfast was excellent and set us up well for a days walking and exploring. The town is lovely with delightful beaches, boat trips to the blue grotto, and loads of good restaurants. The reception girls both spoke excellent English and were most helpful with all our requests. Car parking was just across the road in their private area. Strong recommend for this hotel, a lovely spot !…
Me and my husband visited Santa Caterina hotel in June 2015 and we were very happy with our stay. We got a very big room with a big balcony and amazing sea view. The room is very clean and a clean bathroom as well. The breakfast was the best of all the places we visited in Italy, it provides more than a standard Italian hotel breakfast. The staff is very professional, helpful and friendly. The hotel has its own private parking across the street, which was perfect. Not much parking in the centre. The only thing we were unhappy about was the lack of ironing opportunity. Palinuro is a very nice place to visit with a lot to do and see. Also nice clear water and easy to access several beaches, both more private and more busy. We visited Palinuro between the 22nd - 28th of June and it was calm and not much tourist. Would recommend this time. When we left the place was crowded, all restaurants and beaches too. It lost all its charm in our opinion. Isabelle - Sweden…
