A nice Villa with a good included breakfast and a good restaurant for dinner. A short drive to the Orvieto town and tourist area which is on top of a hill. Rooms are on the second floor and their is not an elevator to help with any luggage.

This is a beautiful hotel. Converted from a 16th century villa and located off the road a piece in the midst of a well-manicured landscape, it has all the romance and comfort one wants. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rates extremely reasonable, and the facilities clean and comfortable. Our room was large, with a fireplace and canopy...

This beautiful building was originally a Roman tower, renovated in 1568 (!) to become an elegant villa. Lovely grounds with pool and outdoor wisteria-covered patio. Easy parking. Fabulous restaurant for dinner. Convenient (5-minute) drive to free parking lot for funicular up to Orvieto. Magnificent town atop a rocky promontory. Highly recommend this hotel for a unique experience with modern amenities.

This is a lovely old hotel below the city of Orvietto. It's just far enough out so that you're away from the tourist traffic. It has great old world charm with a delightful staff and a wonderful on-site restaurant. The rooms are old but they are really special. Our room looked out over the pool and a beautiful garden. The...

This is a great spot to base your self while visiting Orvieto and other locations nearby. It is very old and very beautiful with an excellent restaurant serving local wine and food. The staff are friendly and helpful and will recommend routes, shops, restaurants or attractions that may be of interest.

Hotel was slightly further out of Orvieto than we had realised but as we had a car and Orvieto has good car parks it was OK. Without a car would have been a longish walk in the heat as there is no straight way to walk across the river. Decent restaurant in the garden making good pizzas. Very reasonably priced....

The place is slightly out of town and therefore very quiet. It sits in a small park. Due to the origin of the building, the rooms can be a bit dark because of the small windows. We had a room in one of the towers which was very big, yet the bathroom was tiny. This again due to the nature...

We really enjoyed our stay! The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful! We loved the food and the atmosphere overall! We had hoped the Villa would be more centrally located to the historic city, but we figured out the public bus system and made it work!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It is an elegant Villa which dates back to the 15th century and it is surrounded by an age-old park at the confluence of the river Chiani and the Carcaione. Local Historiography tells us that the structure was originally a tower, “La Turchinetta”, and was property of one of “Monaldeschi” of Cervara associated with Catherina of Sweden. This enlargement was commissioned to Ippolito Scalza (1532)by the then owner of the tower Vincenzo Butius. It was said that Butius, suffering from bad health, was advised by doctors to live near a river. The villa was built, so that the Carcaione stream ran under one of the arches which upheld the structure. River deposits, with time have caused the ground floor of the structure to become submerged and therefore the “piano nobile” is now on the first floor. The hotel which is situated on the 2nd floor, it is of only 12 rooms, with old style furniture and canopy bed,the windows of which look onto the villa’s park.Recent reconstructuring retained all the original characteristics of the villa (thick walls, large beams, and terracotta paving) Although guaranteeing every comfort, the atmosphere is typically tranquil. The restaurant on the ground floor has two large halls. In the main hall there is a lacunar ceiling with engraved and decorated strips, painted with allegorical motifs and landscape scenes. One can admire a stone fireplace which is thought to be the work of “ Ippolito Scalza”.The excellently run Restaurant presents high class genuine Umbrian culinary cuisine. The wine cellar is well stocked with high qualitywines and of course Orvieto classico. In the Hotel we have a outdoor swimmingpool but at about 1000 m. there are also a indoor swimmingpool, football ground, tennis-ground to public use.In our Villa's park there is a free parking area.Villa Ciconia is situated at about 2 Kms from the Florence-Rome motorway exit, 1 hour by car far from Rome,1 hour and half by car from Florence. You can find the train-bus station at about 1km from our hotel. The nearest airport is"Fiumicino" located near Rome, you can arrive there in 1 hour and 30 minutes ... more   less
