#20 of 28 hotels in Montepulciano
Behind the Medicean column there is the Hotel Il Marzocco, the oldest in town. It was built in 1500 as a farm of the nearby convent. In 1860 it became a hotel and since the early 1900s it has been run by the same family. The hotel looks like a large house where the atmosphere of the old times is still kept. Its bedrooms open on wide lounges that, like the reading room and the sitting room, are furnished with genuine XIX century pieces. Some bedrooms have balconies or terraces with a view on the valleys, other ones have their windows over the Renaissance houses of the old town. The hotel has had important guests like actors, writers, politicians, all of whom are fond of the great view from its terraces. A free parking area is available, as well as comfortable relaxing spaces and a wide dining room where breakfast is served from a rich buffet with home-made bread and cakes, jams and pies. Among the roses of the garden, the Canada creeper climbs until the terraces and creates a pergola up to the roof, at first green in summer, than all red in September and yellow during the autumn. Red geraniums at the windows, together with the old lace curtains, add to the building a perfectly romantic touch. Wi-Fi Connection. We accept pets. Free Indoor garage for motorbikes and bicycles.

A journey into the past in a very positive way. The hotel is old fashioned in every style, but you can strongly feel the soul and passionate staff. We had a room on the second floor with a huge terrace and amazing few. The location at the entrance of Montepulciano is perfect. The rooms are clean and breakfast offers a good choice. Parking was included and our small dog very welcomed. We will be back.

We stayed at the Alberto Il Marzocco for two nights as part of a GAdventures tour. The rooms are quite large and have air conditioning and the the bathrooms are very large. The breakfast was very good. The furniture in the rooms are antiques but very serviceable. It is easy to get to this hotel from the bus station. The hotel is basically at the bottom of this hill town and it is quite a walk to the top. However, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel there is a hop on hop off shuttle tram that is quite reasonable that can make navigating the town easier. On the day we had to leave Montepulciano they opened the breakfast area early for our group as we had to catch an 8:15 bus. I would certainly stay at this hotel the next time I visit Montepulciano.

If you want to stay in authentic surroundings with friendly locals, this is your place! The staff are lovely and even drove me to the bus station in the morning free of charge. The terrace rooms are beautiful but even the town view rooms have a beautiful old style Italian feel and it’s a very peaceful place. No elevator so you get your exercise in 👍 I liked being located at the bottom of the hill with a few local eating places around as it wasn’t too hectic

This hotel was superbly situated at the entrance to this magnificent hill top town.It was a walk back in time. Very clean, staff extremely helpful who could not do enough for us. We were given a view of two rooms both with fabulous views. Standard of room was good. Excellent breakfast. When i say step back in time, there was no evidence of computers at reception, although there must be one in an office to take bookings but on our arrival we were checked in on a ledger. Hand written bill receipt. There is wifi. Family run hotel, well done.
