Hotel Grifo is in Montepulciano in the province of Siena, in the Tuscan countryside between the Valdichiana and Valdorcia. The only Hotel in Italy with direct access for those who cover the Autostrada del Sole- A1 Milano-Napoli in south-bound and it is also easily accessible from the ancient Via Lauretana, which connects Montepulciano and Cortona, and the provinces of Siena and Arezzo. It represents the ideal solution for a pleasent pause after a long highway trip, and the perfect starting point to discover our hills: Siena, Arezzo, Perugia and Orvieto can be reached in 40 minutes, on the contrary, Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona, Chiusi are just a few tens of minutes. There are 53 rooms available to guests, with bathroom, very well soundproof, air conditioning, minibar, satellite LCD TV, wi-fi, hypoallergenic pillows and mattresses, for a perfect rest. From morning the breakfast room is open, with a rich continental buffet sweet and savory: fresh croissants, yoghurt, cakes and jams, various cereals, sliced salami and Tuscan cheeses with fresh bread. We can also satisfy our celiac guests, because we are members of the Italian project AIC. In the ground floor there are two International billiards De Blasi, bar, reading room, tv room and Internet Point. Outside there are a large garden, an ample guarded parking, a garage and bus space. An efficient night porter service is guaranteed.

I've been here together with my friends and we had a great experience. The new staff is friendly and knowledgable about the place, they're always available in any kind of situation. The local wine is great and the food as well, 'bisteccha alla fiorentina' is one of my favourite. Breakfast buffet is great, they have almost everything.

We had a pleasant dinner on a Saturday night. Very thin slices of pork and a veal steak with a Montalcino Rosso. Tiramisu and chocolate pudding. A good basic local meal. Staff friendly and helpful. No complaints.

Excellent stay due to very friendly staff who are sure to look after your needs. Good breakfast with a variety of options. Located near Montepulciano and also very good for walks, biking and exploring rural Tuscany. Easily arrived at by car. Room was clean and spacious. Staff are knowledgable of the area and can point you in the right direction of a good meal or day out. I have stayed at this hotel whenever I have stayed in the area and it has never let me down.

Hotel next to the high way in quiet place. Meal service is under any any standard. When we came for breakfast there was literary nothing to choose from any fresh food: no ham, no mortadela, no chees, no bread. We have to chase waiter and ask him for resuply which he does but it take him to much time in my opinion( aprox 10 minuts). If hotel know how many guestas they will have on breakfast then they should be prepared. There was no fresh vegies or fruits. And most disapointing was the cheese. We was some artificial chees instead of good normal cheese especialy if you are in region where the great cheeses are made. The electricity plugs in room was some unknown type (3 bolts in the row) which was not compatible with world wide plug adapter. Toilet flush in next room was so loud so much that was wake me up several times during the night. Showerhead was spreading the water more all around than to the intendet area. Only nice looking place is the reception area. Generally hotel with potencial but need a lot of improvement.

Response from ilnappo, Responsabile reception at Il Grifo Hotel e Bisteccheria Toscana

Hello, after carefully reading the review and knowing our operating standard, such a negative judgment looks like strange and suspetcted. Every morning, in our hotel, breakfast service starts at 6:30 a.m. and finishes at 10:00 a.m.. There is a varied buffet: fried eggs, omelette, corn flakes, muesli, pineapple and fruit, yoghurt, jam and honey, butter, rusks, bread, ham, cheese, chocolate and jam tart, chocolate and vanilla cake, cafeteria with espresso, cappuccino, tea, barley and orange juice. Probabily the don't benefit this buffet because he came later than closing time of our breakfast service: that's the only reason. But it doesn't justify the bad judgement he gave us. As regards the rooms, the wiring is new and in accordance with the current european and international regulations, so it's strange that he had troubles with our shuko sockets. Even stranger is that the guest heard some noise from the next room's bathroom, because all rooms are soundproofed, and often our guests mark this feature. However, we will consider any king of complaint and we will use this bad judgment, given to us with too much superficiality, to improve our hospitality.
