What a fabulous surprise! An absolute gem of a little boutique hotel. Service is stellar, attention to detail surpasses any 4 star hotels I've stayed at in Italy. Beautiful rooms, normal size for Italy, but gorgeous. The breakfast was 5 star. I cannot say enough about this hotel. Good luck getting a reservation though. I was able to slip in through a cancellation.

We are cycling the Via Francigena so only stayed one night. We were warmly welcomed and a safe place was found for our bikes. The rooms are comfortable and very well appointed and the buffet breakfast was fantastic. A lovely family run hotel.

I stayed there for one night on a business trip. Its a small hotel, but service was excellent. The room was clean and the shower pressure was good. Its also located in a quiet residential neighborhood, so no noise from traffic or bars etc. The hotel is 10 min walk to the beach along a lovely canal. If you are there, you should also try the restaurant La Peniche just 5 mins away en route to the beach. It was recommended by the hotel and the food was excellent.
To get to the hotel, I took a train from Milan Centrale to Massa Centro station, approximately a 4 hour train journey. From there, its a 10 mins taxi ride to the hotel costing Eur12-15.

Well I guess the title says it all. We came in late in the afternoon. Despite our less than poor italian and them only speaking italian, we got recommendations of a nearby restaurant (amazing by the way). Friendliest and most helpful staff I’ve ever encountered. The room itself had a balcony, AC and all the other standard accommodations.
Every morning (2 of them) we were greeted by the staff before a really good continental breakfast, and everytime we left the hotel the staff would bid us farewell. Even walks out and checks the street for you if you’ve parked in one of their spots and want to leave by car. Would recommend!

5 days near the beach in a warm welcoming hotel, run by a lovely family, whose head despite the age was so charming and friendly. The welcoming every morning at the breakfast in his marine captain of Titanic like suite made or day start with joy! Breakfast delightful, with an unbelievable variety of fruits, juices, sweets. And always a glass of wine offered by the captain itself with his lovely smile.
For the beach I would recomand the southern part of Marina, or Viarregio. The one at the end of the channel is tiny and too crowded.

I had my directions messed up a booked a room here thinking it was closer to our destination. Glad we stayed. The hotel pays attention to details. Older hotel that has been well kept. Room was nice and comfortable. Huge breakfast spread the next morning.

We stayed here during the New Year's celebrations and I can't say enough good about Hotel Matilde. It is family owned and run and you can tell they are very proud of their hotel. The breakfast buffet is the best I've experienced in Italy. The room was immaculate and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and the shower luxurious. The internet service was good, the location just a short walk to the seaside. Our room had a balcony and a mini-fridge stocked with bar items for purchase. Our every need was anticipated, even down to the complimentary champagne and ice pack for my man's foot from too much walking around on New Year's Eve! I look forward to our next stay with this family.

Fantastic place, close to the beach, friendly, very helpful staff, completely oriented to the guests, extremely clean rooms, quiet street, the best breakfasts I have ever eaten in hotels (and I have eaten a lot of them). I totally recommend this unique place to everyone! The "vitamins" served by the owner were the greatest pleasure !!

Sorry to say but we only were able to stay one night, would be very happy to stay here for one or two weeks. Very clean hotel and charming, helpful staff. we were the only guests (end of season October and on our way home) but we received a first class service and made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was outstanding with great variety and very plentiful. Great attention to detail and everything was provide for our comfort in the room. Quiet but convenient location for the town and beaches.
