Detailed Reviews

We chose this hotel because it advertised gluten-free meals, which were incredibly delicious and prepared by Roby's mother.
A one-story hotel was built by Roby's grandparents and was named after him when he was born. A second floor was added. His ever-smiling mother prepared all our breakfasts and dinners. Roby is working on his masters degree in bio-chemestry and does fitness training in his large fitness room. Guests can use it only if they are staying 5 days or more and need to have a session with Roby before using it.
We also chose the hotel because it was off the beach in a quiet neighborhood, although we did enjoy a very talkative bird who spent its days on a balcony or garden we couldn't see from our room. One of the bird's most interesting abilities was to mimic a cat or dog in order to get a neighboring dog's attention. With the palm trees in the gardens off our balcony, the atmosphere was tropical.
We were each day exploring - Lucca (about 50 minutes), and marble quarries of Cararra and Serrazza. The latter had a 16th C church with monument to Michelangelo's work there and a path below that had signs explaining the marble quarrying in the area.
Each night after dinner, we went to the corner and walked down San Leonardo to the fishing pier at Piazza Betti in order to walk off our excellent dinner.
Although it was Oct. we were able to take a cooling swim in the sea after hiking all day. As far as one could see, it looked like the beach was divided into private/pay areas except a small strip on each side of the pier. This public beach has nothing, not even a water faucet for washing off after a swim.
The family was kind and helpful. When we got a parking ticket in Lucca, we returned to the hotel with it, not knowing what to do. Mara walked to the post office to take care of it for us.
We were sad to have to say goodbye to Roby, Mara and Mama when we left.

We were at Roby Hotel for six nights. Taking part in mountain running championship. The rooms are adequate, wifi, air conditioning and modern flat screen tv. The owners are exquisite! They pamper us and the food we are on full board is delicious! The lady takes good care of us and is on the ball! Husband Robert does the cooking! We are 400 meters away from the sea and near the centre. If you come by car you can park. There is also a ping pong table and a lovely small patio garden. The rooms have showers and are very clean. We are want for nothing. We will be back!
