Cozy and large room, nice and well equipped bathroom.
Very good house keeping.
The parking lot isn't so large.
Amazing view on the gulf if your room is sea front.
The pricing is aligned with the service you get.
To be again there.
Excellent value for money.
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Very clean and well maintained rooms.
It's a 5 minute hike from town (with lots of stairs) but that's the reason you visit Lerici!!
The breakfasts (as mentioned in other reviews) were second to none, with a fantastic choice and were available from 0600hrs-1200hrs, yet despite this time it is clear that everything is replenished and refreshed regularly as nothing was (or looked) stale.
Earn the views. It's a climb from Lerici, but it's worth it. Really worth it.
All in all - I can find nothing bad to say about the Grand Hotel Europa. Only praise.
I can thoroughly recommend Lerici too. It's away from the madness of the Cinque Terra (which is still absolutely worth a visit) and is more of a haven for Italian tourists. The town has a great array of excellent restaurants, and the locals are incredibly friendly and accommodating.
Parking was easy (and free), just a few steps away, over the road and the appearance of the hotel from outside was really positive, as per the photos on their website. Stepping inside however was like stepping back 20 years - really rather dated and not somewhere I would want to sit for a drink. The reception staff were polite and helpful. Wireless was 5 euro for 24hours of 'online time' but the login received only lasted for 3 days - not ideal for longer stays.
Our room was on the 3rd floor with a sea view and a small balcony but again, there was another mix of good and not-so-good. The room and bathroom were very clean, the bed was large and comfortable yet the carpet and wardrobes/cabinets were very dated and tatty in places and the same can be said of the bathroom. It appeared that changes had been made to update the rooms - new lamps, headboard, mirrors, tv (although we only had one channel and couldn't get it to work properly with the ipod) etc but there was still some way to go. The balcony was ok and the view from there was wonderful.
Another reviewer has mentioned the noise and we would agree - we heard furniture being dragged across what we could only presume was the terrace of the room above and there was lots of door slamming and running water in the mornings when people were starting to move about - not great if you're planning a lie-in!
There was an excellent choice for breakfast and again, the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the tables on the terrace from where there were great views.
The views are something you will probably have earned - it's less than a 10 minute walk to get down to the town/harbour and a few minutes more to the beach (2 beds and an umbrella on the 'Lido' beach will set you back 36 euros a day though which is about the same as a meal out for 2 with drinks!) but the walk back up will depend on how fit you are - 180(ish) steps in the heat may be more than you'd like. We viewed it as a good way to balance out the pizza and other delights consumed.
Overall, a good place to stay, just be aware that some of the photos on the website are a bit more 'glossy' than in real life.
"Confirm shuttle to Lerici and ferry schedule before booking. Both are limited in shoulder/off seasons."Read full review
