Eco del Mare is a resort situated in one of the most beautiful bays of the Italian Riviera, internationally known as "the Gulf of the Poets". The unique concept of Eco del Mare originated in the 1950's, when a man looking down at an inaccessible beach at the base of a cliff realized that it would be an ideal place for leisure and relaxation. His dream became a reality with the construction of cabins, en-suite facilities, hot and cold showers, a bar and a small restaurant offering lunches to guests.

After spending a few days in Rome, I was looking forward to the tranquility of this much - raved - about hotel. Upon our arrival, it seemed like everything it had promised was there! A beautiful hidden beach with a luxurious bijou hotel nestling beneath a rocky Cove, only accessible by stairs and a private lift! Dinner on the first night was blissful...there are only six rooms and it was a very intimate dining experience. The food was excellent but very expensive as were the drinks. €16 - €18 for a starter and €22 - €26 for a main. €12 for a spirit and mixer. We decided to have dinner the second night too but were disappointed to see the same menu again! (and the 3rd! )
I chose this hotel because it offered a high end unique experience but it failed on some aspects of service provided. Some staff were very helpful, others seemed to be indifferent to the idea of looking after their guests! The ultimate disappointment was the beach being open to non residents on weekends and their needs were taken care of before ours. I wouldn't visit this hotel again unless it revisits it's brand and service standards.

We couldn't fault the location and it's paradise setting . It is a hidden jewel as other reviewers have mentioned. The beach is beautiful and we would probably stay again ..but for that reason only. The service is very poor and although breakfast is served on the beach, you don't actually get a lot to eat. We had to ask for coffee and water. Had to ask if they served fruit juice or in fact anything hot. Nothing was forthcoming and this became awkward. We would suggest that staff help deter the seagulls around the breakfast tables rather than being on their iPads. One member of staff for breakfast is not enough as it is not a buffet. It costs a lot to stay here compared to the facilities and services available at other resorts/hotels. The very few staff seem very young, inexperienced and there was no sign of any management. No smiles and staff gave the impression we needed to be grateful to stay. When we checked out they didn't even asked if we enjoyed our stay... It really could be perfect if they just improved the service.

Very nice location; probably one of the most beautiful in Lerici. Service is very good, but really expensive. As an example we paid for 1 day , 6 lettini and 1 ombrellone and one cabin (not requested but obliged) 250€ without fiscal documents. in addition the sea was not really clean due to the too many boats very close (oil in water).

We used to visit Eco del Mare Beach Club every august and every august there are some problems. The place itself is just amazing, but this year all magic of this location was completely ruined by the service of managers. Our day on August 21st went wrong from the very beginning.
First of all, there was a problem to arrange chairs for our children, though we stated at booking and payment that there will be 3 kids and 5 adults. To our surprise they said that neither sunbeds, no chairs are supposed to be provided for children. Did you know about that? Then they couldn't provide us with extra umbrellas.
On top of it we were waiting for the order of one of our friends at lunch for almost an hour, they just forgot about it!
Then said that the kitchen is closed and only after our numerous demands brought the order but there was 1/3 of the portion. The waiter explained that the shrimps were over and we should eat it as it is.
During this dialogue the manager Deborah came up to us and, instead of smoothing this unpleasant situation, told us that in case we don't like it we may leave and don't come back again. I am sure that the owners of this wonderful place are not aware how this negative service destroys their business.
We are very disappointed by such impolite treatment to loyal customers and consider it absolutely unacceptable.
It's not a cheap place but even in a regular cafe customers are treated with more respect than in this place.
I advise you to skip it as well not to spoil your holidays and will keep posting negative reviews. Hope it will attract the attention of the owners and they do their best to improve it.

My husband and I just returned from a short stay at Eco Del Mare. We cut our 5 night stay to 2 nights. We first learned about the hotel from a rave review in Travel & Leisure Magazine. The author of the article rhapsodized about the exquisite natural setting and he was not exaggerating. Eco Del Mare is situated on a small cove, with a beach comprised of sand and rocks. The water here is crystal clear and during our stay there were no boats anchored in the cove, so the view was lovely. Since the cove is rather small it is a haven for boats, and the cove could fill up with boats moored for the day. That could be an issue.

Eco Del Mare is well-known in the area as a beach club. One can rent lounges and umbrellas for the day (the day rate is between 60Euro-110Euro). The cove is small and the "hotel"/ beach club is open to many more guests than you would expect. Don't be surprised to find yourself crammed very close to other guests during the day --- it can get very claustrophobic on the beach.

The real surprise--- and a most unwelcome one -- was our room. We booked the STANDARD ROOM (there is only one) for 490EURO a night. The other five rooms are JUNOR SUITES and cost 200 Euro more a night. The STANDARD ROOM lacked all amenities we expected at a 490EURO rate, so we asked to see a JUNIOR SUITE. There are only 2 small differences between the STANDARD room and the JUNIOR SUITE: a few additional square feet of space, and a slightly improved view. Otherwise, be warned: the STANDARD ROOM and the JUNIOR SUITE are indistinguishable. Both categories of room are severely under-appointed and lack any sense of comfort or luxury. The furnishings in the rooms and "suites" were bared-boned at best, and fairly decrepit. A rusty and weather-worn look seems to be the guiding principle. These are extremely funky accommodations, with a lot of mismatched odds and ends and far inferior to anything we have seen in our travels throughout Europe. The JUNIOR SUITE we settled on had inadequate lighting. If you are a reader, bring your own book light. And more to the point, If you are expecting luxury, keep driving down the coast. Luxury, comfort and guest-pleasing amenities are not to be found at Eco Del Mare

One final note: although the natural setting is lovely, there is a lot of man-made paraphernalia cluttering the beach and the grounds of the hotel. If you are capable of ignoring a lot of unsightly, and broken down equipment , you'll be fine. But, there is a lot of "stuff" (tarps, buckets, wheelbarrows, plastic furniture etc) that quite simply defiles the natural beauty. Any of this would be acceptable at a beach shanty, but at 690Euro a night, we were expecting some luxurious or at least pleasing touches . There was not a hint of either at Eco Del Mare.

There's so much potential for a place like this, in this location. Absolutely stunning bay, beach and water. But that's all on the plus side right now. I hope they sell this place to some people who know service/hotel business cause it can be a dream if the owners cared at all.
Negatives:
-expensive even for this lovely spot
-worst breakfast i've had in Italy. We also had to call and look for the staff to make it which weren't even there at 8.30 in the morning.
-bad lighting in the rooms
-cold water in the showers
-no service at the beach, the other guests got their sunbeds carried for them but not us
I can go on but the location is what makes this place and I wouldn't go back ever. Shape up or sell this place is my advice for the owners

i was in my honeymoon trip and decided to add 3 more nights to spend on romantic beach, when i looked in the internet i found the website of eco del mare and was very impressed by the pictures and the reviews here in tripadvisor, it took me a long time to drive from rome to there and i was very excited, i reached the place and all i can find is a parking space and no signs or anything to show where is the hotel, we found an elevator and went down we found no one in the reception we had to shout asking for anyone to help, 10 minutes later a young lady showed up saying that it was her lunch break and she did not even apologised, then she showed us our room, which was dark moist and dirty, in the pictures i saw in the website it had that contemporary style but in real life it looks disgusting and not clean, I asked the lady that if they can give us another room and she said that other rooms are not ready and they have cleaned this room for us in the morning, anyhow i asked them to clean it again and went out to the town close by to enjoy the end of the day, when we came back they told us the restaurant of the hotel is closed and if we want to have dinner they can recommend restaurants close by, which i did not mind and we went to a really good place but i have to say that the resturant was closed for the 2 days we stayed there!!

when we came back on the same night we went inside the bedsheets to sleep, to find out that its full of sand and as it was late for them, like 10:30 pm there was no one answering !!

i went to the reception and there was no body there, i got to know the second day that the staff finish their work at 9 pm!! what hotel does that specially its not b&b or a cheap hotel i paid almost 400 euros a night!1 we slept on the sheet and had to use the towels to cover our self as it was very disgusting!! worst night of my life!

next day i asked them to clean the bed sheets and they were surprised that im asking for this i told them that this is not acceptable!

we went out that day came back before dinner time! again the restaurant is closed, we went out for dinner then some drinks out in the town, we came back at 2 at night to find that all lights are closed and there was guard dog which was barking and running toward us, we ran back to the car and tried to call the hotel, but were shocked to hear the answer machine saying the hotel was closed for winter break and we can leave a message.

anyway we stayed in the car for almost 30 minutes then the dog stopped barking, someone stopped it or took it inside without even caring to tell us its okay to go, we took the elevator and went down to the hotel again all the lights were closed we had to use the torch of our mobile phones to reach the room, when we reached the room we were so scared and decided to leave in the morning when the receptionist come to work so we can take our passport, we felt its not safe at all to stay in another night we were so lucky that nothing happened to us as there is no safety at all and that anyone can access the hotel rooms (specially that the room have windows and doors made of glass with zero safety).

in the morning my wife woke up to find that her eye is swollen from the dirty bed sheets and room, she was so mad we went directly to the reception and asked to check out and a refund for the last night, they treated us like it was nothing and they did not even ask why we are leaving a night earlier and refused to refund us.

to conclude, the hotel location and the beach are nice, service and cleanliness of the hotel were the worst i went to in my life and i went to many exotic places but never seen a dirty room with a smell like the one in hotel del mare.

i suggest that the owner of the property to take a better care of the hotel or to find an international company to do it for them because if they remain this way no one will go to them or recommend the hotel to any one!!

i really recommend everyone to check other hotels in the area and to go there for the beach only but sleeping there is the worst nightmare i had in my life!

We spent a week-end at Eco dl Mare for a birthday party. Great location indeed. That's IT.
Breakfast was horribly poor for what they charge for the room.
The general attitude was not at all customer oriented, specially considering they pretend to place themselves in the top luxury destination in the area....refunsing to serve drink on the beach at sunset because "they are busy with dinner preparation" is just unacceptable for such a location....where else shall we get a drink on the beach then?
They were cleaning party tables from winter mould while we had lunch (in front of guest!!!) and served a super Fraciacorta in wrong glasses.
Chef is a young talent which should better go somewhere else quite soon, so as a special mention should go to event planner who gave us great time solving and covering all the location mistakes.

This place is really a gem for it's location. It has a very romantic and exclusive setting, however "It's not all gold what shines".

When you pay over 100 Euros for an umbrella and beach beds for 2 people you would expect the TOP service but there are few things that disappointed me.

The first one is that there are dozens of boats at the entrance of the bay and so there was soap, gasoline and other garbages floating up to the beach.

The second disappointing thing is the restaurant. For an exclusive place as it is, to hear at 3pm of a Sunday that the restaurant is closed is extremely disappointing.

They only were serving cold plates and the selection was very poor.

I had a great day in with my girlfriend but the service is not worth the price.

This is one of the very best beaches in Italy. For more than 50 years the family Moser has ensured that Eco del Mare is No. 1. Not only the panoramic bay but also the beach and the sea water is marvelous. Early morning the beach and water are cleaned by the staff. Go to any other beach in the area and you will understand how important this morning cleaning is. In other beaches you are packed together with less than a meter between sunchairs. Here it as at least 10 meters between the parasol groups, ensuring comfortable privacy and tranquility. This year improved by light curtains falling down from the four sides of the parasol. Another novelty is that the lettinos have been replaced by 2x2 meters big cushions which form nicely to your body either for reading or stretching out for sunbathing. The restaurant serve very good local food, the bar is nice and clean and offer a cave if you like to read a paper or relax in the shadow. No wonder that this is the favorite place for the Italian super pop star Zucchero. For 2 cushions and 1 parasol we paid €83 which is rather expensive if you do not appreciate the privacy and quality mentioned. However, if you compare it with the price for a double room in one of the nearby summer hotels it is cheap.
