Rifugio Ospitale is a small historic inn right off of the highway connecting Cortina D'Ampezzo and Toblach. It is a great place to use as a base for day hiking the iconic trails of the eastern Dolomites. The rooms are spacious and clean with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast offerings are...

A senior couple traveling by car from Padua and wanted a nice place near Cortina to spend the night, look at the area (Misurina and Tre Cime), and leave for a drive through the Dolomites the next day. This place was perfect. We found that other places close to Cortina suffer ski season high traffic wear and tear and are...

We enjoyed staying at this beautiful hotel. Our room was very spacious and had the view of the mountains. We ate at the restaurant on site which was really good. Nice staff. On site parking. Good breakfast.

Back for the second time at Rifugio Ospitale for a long weekend, once again we found a spacious and spotless room, delicious food and wine at dinner, breakfast served in a cozy room with the most amazing mountain view. I strongly recommend this family-run small rifugio, far enough from fancy Cortina to be able to enjoy the peace and beauty...

We stayed here whilst on a cycle tour, and although the weather was certainly unpleasant - Refugio Ospitale proved to be the complete opposite! We arrived soaking wet, late ... and to a packed Saturday night restaurant, but we were greeted, shown a big dry garage for the bikes and taken to our room, which was lovely, spotlessly clean, very...

My partner and I weren't sure if we wanted to stay in central Cortina or a bit further out in the mountains. We decided the latter for a more unique experience. We had a car and it was a 10 minute drive to the main town of Cortina - not too far at all. The rooms were lovely, clean and...

Nothing special... Rooms are big, but close to road. Noise will bother the sensitive. Windows open is like street corner. Food, expensive and nothing too impressive. Service ok. Recommend Quinz at Misurana instead. Better view, better food, better service and better prices.

This is a belated review as we stayed one night in April in their double room. The room and ensuite bathroom was beautifully furnished (with lots of wood accents), spacious yet cozy. The bed was very comfortable too. The hotel is conveniently located halfway between Cortina d’Ampezzo and Lake Misurina. What was even better than the room was its restaurant....

Great recently renovated hotel in Dolomites, we spent a week with 3 kids and highly recommend this place: - Nicely decorated rooms with comfortable beds - Excellent breakfast - Good location in the mountains, but still close to Cortina (9km away) - Friendly staff and owners, English isn't their fluent language, but they always do your best to help and...

It was our second time to stay at the Ristorante Ospitale, first time in summer of 2012 and now we stayed for 2 nights in July 2015. Great family run hotel and restaurant, location is excellent, close to Cortina, if you like hiking you just cross the road, food is great, rooms are very nice. A real nice experience. Strongly...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Originally built in the 12th century, Ospitale is one of the oldest lodges in Europe. Across the centuries, Ospitale has witnessed the passage of a myriad of strangers but also illustrious historical figures. Having being robbed and burnt, destroyed and bombarded, it has always been rebuilt, throughout the centuries, thanks to the enthusiasm of the local population. Today, this family run Alpine-style Rifugio is beautifully located at the heart of the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites and is easily accessible with only 10 minutes’ drive away from the Cortina’s city centre. In winter, it offers cross-country ski-to-door access and, in summer, hiking and biking scenic itineraries. It also features a very appreciated Michelin restaurant with outdoor seating. Spacious rooms at Ospitale include light wood furnishings, parquet floors, satellite flat-screen TV, a safe and free internet access. The private bathroom has free toiletries and hairdryer. Some rooms come with a balcony. ... more   less

“We had a room on the road side, big room and nice balcon. There may be some noise from the passing cars but it is fairly quiet during the night time and did not bother us. The rooms in the back may be quieter but then your views would be to be forest. There is a lift so carrying luggage upstairs will not be a problem either.”

“We stayed in two rooms at the north east corner of the hotel, they were connected by a small hallway that could be locked from the rest of the hotel. It was a perfect two room suite for a family. It was very close to the highway; but, this prove not to be a problem.”
