SUMMARY: Girasole is a pleasant family run hotel east of city center. LOCATION: east of Sorrento center about 18-20min walk away from Piazzo Tasso. We walked several times into town for dinner. Busy street with traffic but manageable. PROS: 1) outdoor pool: large, well-maintained, in middle of Lemon trees - just lovely after a day walking through the heat of Pompeii. 2) Parking is included: this was a major factor for us since we had a rental car and drove to Pompeii/Ercolano and Amalfi Coast (I don’t recommend driving into Sorrento downtown due to limited parking. I have driven the Amalfi coast twice and don’t recommend it unless you are relatively comfortable with tight turns, aggressive drivers, and squeezing by buses - NOT for the faint of heart). 3) BREAKFAST: Continental breakfast with Saluki, cheese, yogurt, and pastries included. 4) ROOMS: decent size with A/C. There is a main building - where breakfast is served - and a smaller annex away from road and next to pool. We stayed in annex CONS: 1) location is further from city center than I would have liked but the parking and pool were more important. 2) Sorrento has mosquitoes in summertime (not unique to hotel) so bring bug juice 3) Pool Towels: they charged a laundry fee…
This was a great stopover for the night. Good ristorante. Good morning collezione. Clean rooms. The exterior was a little run down but I assume it's off season. Family owned and run. Off street parking was secure. Wifi actually worked in the room.
We stayed here for 3 weeks whilst visiting family who live close by. The hotel was clean, staff were friendly although there was only 2 staff that spoke limited English which would be difficult if you don't speak or understand italian. The air conditioning broke down during summer and took days to get repaired which made sleeping un comfortable and we were not told when it was fixed. Considering you need to activate the airconditioner yourself this information would have been beneficial..
