My wife and I just took a three-week driving trip in Italy, and discovered the Hotel Royal in Bolsena. The hotel faces Lake Bolsena, and our room, 309, has a fantastic balcony that was at least 30 feet deep and about 20 feet wide. The room wasn't as large as we would have liked, but the bathroom was large and... More

We have stayed here many times especially when our farmhouse [Laguscello] nearby was being restored between 2006 and 2009. This September we stayed here again as our farmhouse was to be the venue for a family wedding celebration. The Hotel Royal is an emotionally cold place. There is no love or pride. All the staff seem to be on automatic... More

Walking the Via Francigena this was like walking into a palace. This hotel is fabulous. From the service at the front desk, to the working air conditioning (not something we experienced everywhere in Italy), to the pool, the the views from the bedrooms, to the beautiful marble staircase, to the artwork... Without a doubt the best place we stayed in... More

This is our second visit to the Hotel Royal, in the lakeside town of Bolsena. The hotel is on a roundabout just across from Lake Bolsena, across from a public beach and next to the town docks. It's a straight, slightly uphill walk of about 2-3 blocks to the historic centre of town It has a large lobby with friendly... More

Booked a suite, and get a room of about 10 square meters, bath was no bigger than an ordinary toilet, the shower was on 50 X 70 cm. The balcony was of 50 square meters and each worth a Fiver if it wasn't for all the noise from dogs and screaming kids and other sounds that could be heard clearly... More

We had wanted somewhere comfortable to stay for a week as a base for touring the area. We had a great view of the lake and we really enjoyed the huge balcony of room 309. The staff were lovely and the room was cleaned to perfection. The downsides: The bed was very hard and we needed extra comfort because of... More

FIRST IMPRESSIONS • Beautiful setting and location, clean & pretty entrance & reception. • Reception staff. Very warm welcome. She was most attentive in helping our daughter with her luggage. • We soon noticed that she was 'the only staff' member though, quite literally! • Room: 103 triple - is an adequate size with a separate room for my daughter... Nice classic hotel with splendid pool area. Generous breakfast, service minded staff and a lovely location close to the sea just a stroll away from the city center. If it is summer and room 309 with a terrace is free, book it! Adds an extra 50 m2 with your own sunbeds, sofa and table/chairs to enjoy a view towards the... More

Stayed here one night on our trip to Italy. In a lovely location next to the lake it is well decorated throughout. The room was small but adequate and very comfortable. Breakfast was good though some fruit would have been nice. Overall a hotel I would have been happy to stay longer in.

The hotel itself is really good. Fine surroundings, not too far into town. Pool and gardens inviting. However, we had to take our dinner at hotel opposite as the Royal served only breakfast which was strict continental I.e buns butter and jams with no eggs meat etc on offer. The dinner over the road, which was built into our holiday... More
