Having a wonderful few days here at this beautiful site and the weather for three solid days has been like that you’d find in the south of France in summer.
The first thing in this new world order is that it is very safe.... the daily cleaning regime is second to none and so there’s a great comfort with sanitizers and cleaning instructions everywhere that’s needed. There is always piping hot water and the campers kitchen is well appointed.
Ian and Nic are superb hosts and nothing is too much trouble. One of the best recommendations is that you can see the number of repeat guests to this lovely wooded site. A beautiful rural spot that’s not over-manicured with a great eco friendly ethos.
We have found a special place that we would love to return to.
Unreservedly recommend.

Sleepy Hollows is a Special Place.

Peaceful and quiet. So lovely and quiet. Did I mention quiet? No screaming and yelling children and parents, our ears had to adjust to the difference, what a gorgeous adjustment!

We had such a fabulous time at Sleepy Hollows Campsite. Nic and Ian are so welcoming and helpful, it never feels like you are troubling them if you ask for information. My partner, two wee dogs and I went a while after Covid 19 lockdown was lifted. Naturally, we were nervous and had brought our own anti viral disinfectant spray for communal areas. Needn't have bothered! There were sanitation units everywhere we needed them, never saw an empty bottle for the whole 11 days we were there. AND their products were free from animal testing and vegan. A very Big Plus for us. Those products most definitely cost them more but just shows you how much thought and care they put into everything.

There are no big bright lights at night, which was also a lovely change from other places. At night it turns into a beautiful Fairy Land with strings of wee gentle lights around trees and hedges and candle lanterns at the sanitation boxes. Just magical.

The showers and toilets were always very clean and tidy. They are airy and rustic in style, very in keeping with the camping experience.

We were in a caravan but sometimes joined the tent campers area (which is very cute and well kept) at night to sit and enjoy the camp fire that Ian lights. He actually keeps two wee fires going each night, at either side of the camp site.
That is such a lovely touch. And there are herbs growing around the place which we were told to use if we liked. Very homely and relaxed.

Recycling your rubbish is made very easy with different bins.

The midges can be a problem but Nic and Ian have brilliant 'Smidge' repellent for sale and great intense stick that work. I remember cycling back to the campsite and whatever way the wind was blowing I could smell the lovely lemony scent of the incense in the air before I reached the campsite.

We were out exploring every day. The landscape and beaches nearby are just incredible, you wouldn't see it all in a month. Get onto those wee tiny back roads and go on an adventure, you won't be disappointed.

I can't say enough good things about this place and the lovely Nic and Ian who run it. Their wee dog Purdy is a gorgeous wee character, if you have the good luck to meet her. It wasn't easy to leave and it was hard to adjust to being back home afterwards, we had such a all-round great experience.

My friend Breege and I stayed here on 7th and 8th July 2020
Would highly recommend,
Nick and Ian the couple who own and run the site have put a lot of thought into keeping their guests safe in these strange times
Ample sanitisers both for hands and all areas of use ie campers kitchen, toilets and showers
As it is an adult only site the onus is on each individual to respect their fellow campers and I was aware that everyone was doing their bit.
I will certainly be back as the little things like being given free beautiful incense sticks really are appreciated and a friendly welcome is always good.
Keep up the brilliant job you,s are both doing and hope see you soon
Best wishes Kate xx

Sleepy hollows was a very nice small campsite and felt very comfortable and friendly, the facilities were excellent and had good showers and a campers kitchen if you needed it. This is an adult only campsite. there is a lovely little walk down by a river and they even light two campfires if you wish to sit around and enjoy it. It is situated ideally for glenveagh park and slieve donard if you wish to visit.
I would recommend bringing citronella candle or something as the bugs do come out in the evening but thats just due to the location and is only a minor thing. I would recommend to friends and hope to return again

We booked in for a two night stay at sleepy hollows and enjoyed it so much we ended up staying for an extra night - it is absolutely amazing and I cannot recommend it enough!

It’s a beautiful campsite, with good flat sites for tents. It has a brilliant set up with a fire pit, Which is lit at night, a lovely outdoor dining area with picknick tablets with a lovely garden surrounding it ( lots of strawberry bushes), and very clean facilities. The kitchen was well equipped and very clean! The toilets/showers were all very clean with good hot water.

Ian and Nic are great hosts and are extremely welcoming and friendly. They go the extra mile to make your stay perfect. Donegal gets midges in the summer months, however Ian and Nic are well prepared for this- they sell spray to keep the midges away and at night hand out incense sticks as well!

The location of the campsite is great, There is a lovely river walk you can do and the pub is only a 2min walk away. The campsite is also close to some lovely beaches, Glenveagh national park and lots of stops on the wild Atlantic way.

The campsite has lots of options for overnight stays, cabins, huts, spaces for tents and camper vans.

I can’t wait to stay here again!

A beautiful 3 night stay here. We stayed in the Sleepy Hut which was a perfect size for us, 2 adults one small dog. The little extras provided in the hut were ideal, little lights, torches, outside table n chairs which was covered with a canopy and a cosy fire which was controlled by the Campsite Owners. It was lovely sitting at the fire chatting to other campers. Very clean and tidy campsite with great kitchen amenities which meant we had to bring very little with us. The hosts were always around checking that everything was OK and keeping the site tidy and were very genuine friendly people. We ate every night in Leo's Tavern which was a short walk from the campsite. I woukd definitely recommend anyone to stay here and we would definitely return.

I had an amazing stay at sleepy hallows campsite. I spent 5 nights here in my own tent. I was travling solo and felt very safe here as a women on my own. Ian and Nic were amazing so friendly, caring and down to earth. They worked around the clock to keep the camp beautiful and clean. The toilets, showers and kitchen were spotless, and there was hand sanitiser stations around the camp. Nic created a Beautiful homey environment with all the wee personal touchs, from the flowers, the signs, fairy lights and wee lanterns on picnic tables, It was very welcoming. In the evening the fairy lights came on, candles were put on the wee lanterns and ian came around and lite a camp fire which created a wee community feeling by allowing a space for the campers to sit around the fire and socialise. The campsite smelled beautiful the nights the midges were about as incense was handed out to all the campers to burn to repel them. I had an amazing experience at sleeply hallows campsite. What Nic and Ian have created is beautiful space. I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back.😁😊😁 Love AJx

We had a lovely 2 night stay in sleepy hollows campsite. Ian the owner is a character and goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and show you around the facilities. Campsite is located about a 10 minute stroll from Leos tavern so a few pints and some irish music and craic isnt far away. The Crolly whiskey distillery is also close by and it's worth doing a tour especially if the weather isnt good. Theres also a lovely riverside walk from the campsite so plenty to do. The tent camping area is grassed and although this is a small campsite there was plenty of room between pitches. There is a communal covered seating area which has a nice campfire going in the evenings. lovely to sit there and chat to your fellow campers if the weather is inclement. The small toilet / shower blocks are a little dated but very clean, hot, and included in the price. There is a small kitchen that has everything you could need to make a simple meal including fridge and freezer, and again spotlessly clean. In summary a small very friendly, relaxed and spotlessly clean campsite in a great location to unwind. We would definitely come back.

I can’t fault this campsite. From the day we arrived until the day we left, we were so impressed with how this campsite was managed and maintained. Ian and Nick are really lovely people and they cannot do enough for you. The campsite is spotless including bathroom/shower/washing facilities. Fire pits were set up every evening and maintained by the hosts. This gave a gorgeous atmosphere and allowed you to socialise with other campers, if you so wished. The campsite is small and quaint but still lots of space between tents. Leo’s Tavern is a 5 minute walk away which does lovely food and drinks. The campsite is located in a gorgeous area with lovely rivers walks and only a 15-20 minute drive to Glenveigh National Park.

Sleepy Hollow is a very quirky friendly and immaculately clean site. It is well laid out, drying room, well equipped kitchen, social area with outside social fire area great shower and toilet facilities with eco friendly vegan products available for use and a strong focus on recycling which is just perfect. Nicola and Ian are so helpful friendly and welcoming and we wholeheartedly recommend staying here. It is a must to add on to your itinerary and give great access to the stunning parts of Donegal. 100 percent recommend this venue. Would love to see some chickens on site in a homemade coop and maybe a few alpacas because there is plenty of space and the guests would enjoy feeding and walking them. I think the price needs to be increased slightly a couple of euros per camper would cover the cost of the animal care. Its a must stay venue.

Does this campsite not allow children?
Answer from Nicola McKinlay
County Donegal, Ireland2 contributions3 helpful votes
Hi Eddie! Thank you for your question regarding children at the campsite. We are an adult-only/strictly 18+ campsite - the grounds and local area are unsuitable for children to play, and we also like to offer those without children something different, where they can relax and enjoy a lie-in. We're very popular with teachers and social workers!! Kind regards, Nic & Ian Sleepy Hollows Ltd

That is a good question. They were really bad from mid May to early June but haven't been bad since. Having said that there are usually some midges here early morning and evening throughout the summer and if your wife suffers badly it may not be the best place to come. That's the best I can say.
