We've just returned from a family break in lough Mardal and we had an absolute ball. The photos don't do justice to this stunning location and accommodation.

First thing to note for anyone nervous of travel during covid is that their cleaning regime throughout our stay was to a v high standard and continuous. All the staff we encountered were so friendly too.

The yurts were so cosy and I'm now converted to glamping. Waking under a cosy duvet when there's a distinct autumnal morning nip in the air was heaven.

Lough Mardal is tranquil but v close to bundoran, rosnowlagh and ballyshannon so you've best of both worlds.

We spent two lovely evenings around the camp fire chatting to other guests. The yurts are so spacious and comfortable that you could easily spend your evenings there too. Our little guy loves the camp fire experience so we ended up there two evenings in a row.

Finally a nod to Marcus and Clare's definite ethos which is seen by using irish handmade soap company products in wet rooms and eco friendly washing up liquid in the communal kitchen. These guys are true to their values.

Finally just to say the Marcus and Clare were lovely hosts.Never intrusive but always on hand if you wanted advice or recommendations for the area.

We had food in whoriskeys on the sat evening and it's obvious from chatting to the owner that they recommend the pub to lots of their guests.im a big fan of small businesses being supported esp in the current climate.

Thanks for a great holiday Marcus and Clare (and who can forget Archie the dog).We hope to see you again next year.

Lough Mardal Lodge is the perfect escape if you are looking for a beautiful retreat far away from the uncertain times we are all facing at the moment.

We stayed in The North Brae yurt which was spacious and clean as well as having beautiful decking outside (perfect for some sunrise yoga) while enjoying the amazing views.

I’d really recommend doing the Lime Hill walk and saying hello to the super cute donkeys as well as taking in the spectacular views, bring your wellies it can be a wet one!

All of the yurts are in very close proximity to the toilet and shower facilities. Parking is also really close to the main lodge and all the paths are gravel so we were able to walk anywhere we needed to on the site in our flip flops.

You do get some small fridge space in the main lodge kitchen, so you can bring some perishables.

We experienced a typical stormy Irish night during our stay and it is testament to the build quality of the Yurts that we felt safe and secure inside from the driving rain and high speed winds.

The Smugglers Creek in nearby Rossnowlagh is great for some food and more amazing views. It’s only a 20 minute drive away!

Before heading home we visited nearby Murvagh beach. It’s a lovely long beach for walking and is adjoined by a large forest with various trails and walks.

Thank you so much Marcus and Clare for letting us enjoy your home away from home... we never wanted to leave and we are sure to come back!

Our yurt was in a stunning location where we could watch both the sunset and sunrise. It was beautifully and tastefully decorated, with a real fire to keep it warm for us.

The common kitchen was stocked with everything one could imagine. All of the facilities (showers, toilets, common area, utensils, yurts) were spotless.

Lough Mardal Lodge is a place where you leave technology at home and enjoy the company of those around you. It is a magical and unique place.

I spent ages writing put a review but it did not save but this place is so good it is worth writing twice. These guys know what they are doing and have done it properly. An exceptional location that has been superbly developed with 5 yurts and a large fabulous common area. From our yurt you could not see another yurt or indeed even hear anyone. The view of the lake and the forest from our yurt was beautiful. Lovely sunsets on the deck. The yurt was large and very very clean. I cannot recall ever sleeping in a bed so comfortable. The wood burner adds extra comfort and atmosphere.the attention to detail is superb. Just read about the description of the common area on how it was built to see the dedication to this project. I loved that the common area was a gadget free zone. I loved that the yurt had no electricity. I loved their covid precautions . It was a contactless check in and check out and we saw no staff while onsite but every message was answered instantly with every request answered promptly. The walk ways were beautiful and the whole experience perfect for our family 3 night break. A car is essential. Perfect

I can't recommend Lough Mardal Lodge enough. The yurts and lodge had all the facilities that you could need, its location is gorgeous. If your looking to switch off and relax in nature, I cant think of a better place.
The yurts themselves were new, and very private, with great views over the lake. The beds were comfy and nice to have hotel linen in a yurt in the middle of the Donegal wilderness.
I need to take this opportunity to also note, the cleanliness was very good, especially during these Covid 19 strange times. There was somebody cleaning all the time, wiping down surfaces etc.
I can't wait to return.

We absolutely loved this place. The decor and comfort in out yurt was like a five star hotel. We were in the Nort Brae and the views over the tree tops and lake were beautiful. Although there are six yurts it was completely private with no noise expect the birds. We were warm and cosy with the stove on and didn't need the hot water bottles provided.
The lodge is a beautifully designed, circular building with comfy chairs, those lake views and a fireplace. There are books, records and games provided.
The cooking facilities are excellent. All your crockery and cutlery is in a special cabinet and you have your own shelves in the fridge and freezer. Everything you would need for cooking is provided and the place is spotless.
The shower and toilet facilities are spotless and attractively designed. They provided lovely Soap Company products and nice white towels as well as a hairdryer.
I've been glamping before but nothing like this. They have thought of everything and it was a wonderful experience. The nice weather helped but I think I would also be cosy in the bad weather. I can't wait to go back.

The first thing we did on returning from our holiday was to book a return week next summer for fear of everyone discovering the gem that is Lough Mardal Lodge. What we loved about it....cooking in the very well equipped spacious kitchen, the style and natural beauty of the eco lodge, the wet room showers, the fluffy towels, the pristine cleanliness of all of the facilities, the lake swims, the leafy surrounds, the sunsets, the toasted marshmallows around the campfire, the warm welcome of Marcus and Clare, the beautiful, cosy luxurious yurts, the fabulous surfing at Rossnowlagh nearby. We were blown away by the vision of Marcus and Clare in creating such a haven and could not have asked for more.

We had high expectations when making reservation for glamping in Ireland, Lough Mardal Lodge did not disappoint. The facilities were clean and well organized. Everything was labeled so you knew exactly where your items to be used were located.
My husband and I bought food and wine from Donegal and planned a nice picnic at the Shepards Hut, this didn't go as planned due to the midges or in general the bugs. We had to move the picnic into the lodge which has a nice view of the lake, so it turned out to be only a minor inconvenience.
Overall, the experience was wonderful and so happy that we decided to give it a try.

We stayed for 2 nights with our 3 young children. They absolutely loved it. It was such a safe place for them to run around and explore the nature everywhere and they made firm friends with the yurt dog Archie! The yurts are beautifully designed and so cosy. The communal kitchen was much bigger than we expected and fully equipped with everything you need. Showers and toilets extremely clean and a lot of additional precautions taken re Covid. I definitely recommend this, either as a family glamping trip or as a couple.

Lough Mardal Lodge is definitely comfortable glamping and exactly as advertised by Marcus & Clare: a perfect getaway! Everything was there which was mentioned on their website. I loved the yurt, and although the weather was cold we managed to keep it cosy with the log burner. The yurt we had, Sundew, is furnished with beautiful Donegal products such as tweed blankets and sheepskins. The wonderfully comfortable beds have been mentioned in other reviews, I think. On the practical side the yurt has a composting toilet and small cold water washbasin, in a room attached, which were both perfect for our needs. The rechargeable lamps (charged along with phones in the main building) came in very handy when I had to pop to the loo in the night. The main building with its grass roof is very warm and the showers are just glorious! We self-catered every night and really enjoyed C & M's dexter beef burgers one night. Their granola breakfast was perfect too. I left the world behind and only used my phone to take photos while we were there which really did me a power of good. We are very keen on the eco life and I learnt more, about living it, from the way C & M have set the site up. A truly amazing experience thanks to Marcus, Clare and family.

Do the yurts have a toilet for if you need to go in the night?
Answer from Lough Mardal L
As Niamh says the toilets are in the main Lodge building. The closest yurt is only 50m away and the furthest is about 150m. You should be able to walk from the furthest in about 2 minutes max. Our longer term plan is to have toilets for each yurt but this will be a year or 2 away.
