Kawilal Hotel belongs to a concept from Santa Teresita's thermal waters spa, split in SPA, restaurant and Hotel. The concept is ecological oriented and the rooms are designed under that premise, their rooftops are like yards with grass and flowers, all the place is surrounded with ambient music, the water from pool is warm due to the thermal origin and the overall service provided is very good with a well trained staff. The a la carte restaurant has very interesting options and the staff amenities are a must! Definitely a place to go if you're visiting Guatemala and are looking for great experiences close to the city.
We are from Canada. We made a reservation for 2 nights, 3 months prior to our arrival as part of a 2 week vacation in Guatemala. We requested an early check in 3 months in advance-got no response from the hotel. We had an hour drive by taxi from Antigua .when we arrived our room was not ready and we were informed that the confirmed reservation we had, would not be honoured and we had a room for one night only not two. The woman at the front desk just said "do you have anywhere else to stay" We are from Canada in the middle of nowhere Unbelievable After much arguing the made us a reservation in Guatemala City at a 400 room hotel and we had to pay for our own taxi to the hotel in Guatemala City the room was fine, the food was fine. The noise from the city below was deafening. we went to the Santa Terisita spa because the website implied that it was included with the hotel stay While in one of the pools an attendant made us get out an told us, after confirming with the hotel front desk that our hotel package did not include this The people who manage and work at this hotel should not be in the hospitality business…
There was no internet, the bathroom smelled terrible, the ceiling fan was unbalanced and made a terrible racket when on high. The room was hot. There is no A/C and it was not possible to get sufficient ventilation to cool it down. The noise at night from the traffic, the neighbors, the fireworks???, made it difficult to sleep. When the guests next door spoke, it sounded like they were in my room! There was music playing late into the night. This is not a quiet property. The hotel pool and Jacuzzi are nice, and would be much nicer without the traffic noise. The onsite restaurant serves mainly hotel guests and relies on convenience rather than food and service for its revenue, therefore I didn't expect much and they just barely met my expectations. I might visit the spa, but would not stay at the hotel again.…
Our family enjoyed a week at Kawilal and Santa Teresita Hot Springs after traveling around Lake Atitlan. We were greeted by professional service and delicious complimentary frozen mango drinks! Our room was super nice and very comfortable. Hot water in the beautiful natural stone walled shower was a special treat. The room was sparkling clean, as were all the facilities. The restaurant had the best food we had tasted in Guatemala- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The swimming pool at the hotel was very clean and a wonderful temperature- refreshing during the day and warm during the cool evenings. Our children spent time every day at Santa Teresita Hot Springs, where they played in the pools and on the slides with other children, while we soaked and rested nearby. The food here was really tasty too- especially the Strawberry Mojito and the Quesadillas del Pollo. Overall, the time at Kawilal was a highlight of our trip. Celeste was especially helpful, with everything from repairing a broken shoe to scheduling a pharmacy delivery. When we are back in Guatemala, we will most definitely return to Kawilal!…
My friend and I stayed two nights at the Kawilal hotel and booked several spa treatments at the adjacent spa / Santa Teresita. The hotel was gorgeous and pristine. Staff were incredible and restaurant food also exquisite. Amazing pool and jacuzzi - beautiful and impeccably clean. The booking staff patiently spent a lot of time with me via email and WhatsApp to make the reservation for the hotel and spa, as I was trying to make special arrangements for my friend’s bday. They were very accommodating and friendly. Spa treatments were good. We did the thermal circuit (awesome), chocolate coffee body scrub (amazing), hydrating facial (mediocre, but to be fair we booked a 25min facial), and 75 min massage (very good, standard massage). We didn’t go in the other pools at Santa Teresita as there were a lot of kids and it seemed like more of a family resort with fast food kiosks, etc., which wasn’t our scene. One thing to note is that there aren’t many English speakers, as most of the guests seemed local. My mediocre Spanish got me through most of Guatemala just fine, but I really struggled in Amatitlán. Unsure if there is a strong local dialect, but anyway, if you aren’t fluent, make sure to have a translation app / book and be gracious.…
