Nestled in the Western Ghats the River tern lodge gets its name from the nearby island that attracts hundreds of river terns during the breeding season. It is located on a hillock on the edge of the Bhadra reservoir, near Lakkavali: a stone's throw away from the northern boundary of the Bhadra Tiger Reserve, in the Chikmaglur district. Chikmaglur was once a princess' dowry - and still holds the charms of a place that a king's favourite daughter once took as her dowry. Amongst all this, is a perfect place to form a whole new bond with nature.

First look : OMG! The view from the room was to die for. A piece of paradise with the sunning view from the location. I would probably be the last one to share the views from the bathroom, but this place had the best view that I have come across. There were some ants in the room but guess it's inevitable in a jungle resort. The staff was very warm, hospitable and had good knowledge of the surroundings. From serving us at the resort to spotting animals and even help us in capturing them. Food was simple but tasty. Everything works like a clockwork and is a well oiled machine with a schedule which packs adventure and fun with its boat and jeep safaris. If you are looking for a serene time out amidst the nature and the wild, this would be the best bet. Just 300kms away from Bangalore, this place is sure to recharge your batteries. Thumbs up to the property, it's staff and the hospitality. Would surely love to come back at the earliest opportunity as 1 day just did not do justice to this beauty!

We stayed in the resort for two days in first week on August. We planned the trip on Weekdays to avoid the rush, but we didn't take into account the popularity of the place. On Sunday Evening the place was full. Even on Monday and Tuesday the resort was close to full. Coming to the location of the resort. It's right next to the Bhadra reservoir. Accessibility is not an issue as roads all the way to the resort are in excellent condition. On reaching the resort, we were met with a lovely lady in the reception. She completed the checkin formalities promptly and explained the various activities and packages that we can avail. Now, before I talk about the rooms and the ammenities, remember that this is a government run resort with very reasonable charges. We were 2 families (4 Adults and 2 kids). So we booked two rooms for 2 days. Our total bill was 52K which included all the meals (breakfast, lunch dinner and evening snacks) and total of 4 safari rides. We could choose between Jungle Safari (private jeep) or Boat safari. So coming to rooms. There are two sets of cottages. One which are located on the main land and are close to ammenities like dinner hall reception aread and water sports area. There is an adjacent island, which is connected by bridge to the main land, where few cottages are there. These are more seculded and provide more privacy. But downside is for each meal or any other activity you need to walk a lot to get to the main land. First night we spent on this separate island and the second one we requested and moved to the main land. Rooms are basic in nature. A double bed with one additional single bed was provided. There was a big balcony. Depending on the room, balcony either faces the reservoir or the jungle area. One thing to note, there is no room service available as such. So please plan accordingly. Food is again buffet and had both veg and non-veg. It's not a big spread but it was fresh and tasty. Chef of the resort are expert in making different chutneys which were delicious. Note, timings for the food services are followed strictly, so please ensure to be on time. Staff is quite helpful and carry out their work like clockwork. Morning 5:30 they will come and give wake up call for the safari rides which start at 6:30. At 6:15 both the boat and the jungle safari will start. These will be completed by 8:30-9:00. After this breakfast is served. Following this you have the option to just relax in the balacony and soak in the nature around you or you can indulge in the water activities. They have kayaking and swimming when we were there. Lunch is between 1:00 -2:30. At 3:30 you get tea at reception after which its time for afternoon safaris. Again both Jungle and Boat safari are available. This activity completes by 5:30-6:00. At this time evening snacks are served. Dinner starts at 8. So as you can see everything is pretty well planned. So if you want to you can finish all the activities in one day. Unfortunately due to the rains we didn't see much animals in our Jungle and the boat safaris. But the kids really enjoyed the Boat safari and we did it twice. Special thanks to Mr. Lokesh on the boat safari who clicked some amazing pics of various birds for us. He also shared some pics of the tiger sightings he had earlier in the month. Overall this was a really nice trip and stay for us. Again a special thanks to the team at the lodge for making this a memorable journey and stay for us.

I am die hard fan of JLR and Bhadra was the one I always wanted to go to except the prices never allowed me. But this time we made it and what a stay. Stay : we got the best cottage - facing the jungle directly and every morning we saw animals at the waterfront even in this season deer, elephant one morning, wild boar, peacocks and birds Food: JLR beats every single hotel i have reviewed when it comes to food, simple, tasty and u are well fed through the whole 2 days. The Chef was amazing. Safari: Got the best driver Diwakar, he was so motivate to make that tiger an leopard come out but unfortunately the jungle is green and lots of water streams so Mr Tiger and Master Leopard not interested to come out. We saw boar, owl, young Tusker, Langoor, peacocks Boat Safari: The boat guy was again all geared to make sighting happened but we saw Boar, OH A DANCING PEACOCK ( now that is rarer than a tiger, to see this in the wild), birds, deer Location : Outstanding facing the Badra Reservoir Overall: Just enjoy the location is so so pretty , u will come back home relaxed.
