Golden Sands Holiday Park has received a mixed bag of feedback. While the hotel's location is consistently praised for its closeness to the beach, opinions on service and value are divided. Some guests commend the cleanliness and staff friendliness, but others report frustration with communication and slow service.
The rooms are noted to be spacious but have drawn criticism for cleanliness and wear. Although the atmosphere is described as lively, with special touches appreciated, guests have expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of amenities and entertainment offerings.

Detailed Reviews
We have stayed here a few times over the last 3 years and have always had a brilliant time. This year we booked a privately owned caravan as we wanted a 10 day stay and the park don’t offer this as standard. The park have done really well with COVID restrictions to offer some entertainment for the family and Tony, Eloise,
Tyler and Rosie did a fab job the nights we went to still offer some dances for the children. The interactive race nights were great and the quiz Tony made one night was brilliant, it had questions for all ages.
The one way systems are well marked out but it’s a shame people don’t stick to them, but the staff do keep reminding people through the night. The ticket system for bingo is a lot better and avoids big queues for tickets. The pub was also set out brilliant and table service was a lot better than having people queue up, food was always tasty and good value.
We saw all areas, including the Play park being regularly cleaned which was reassuring, and there were plenty of hand sanitising stations.
The only issues we had all week were with the people in the caravan next to us, they were BF29. They were very loud, playing loud music well into the early hours; shouting, swearing and even fighting. We were thrilled on Tuesday when they went home only to be replaced by people just as bad. The original people then came back yesterday as we were leaving so I believe that they are owners, so if anyone is staying in that area just be wary of any issues.
That hasn’t put us off though and looking forward to retiring next year!

Response from Golden Sands Holiday Park, Owner at Golden Sands Holiday Park
Responded 7 Sept 2020
Dear cherish_12, Thank you for taking the time to review Golden Sands. Every review is important to us and we find reading about people's experiences very helpful for improvements and points to assist with ongoing team training. The Goldstars have been hit quite hard with the recent crisis and are still unable to do their favourite part of the job - performing. They are doing their best to think outside of the box and to come up with different ideas, dances, quizzes and games to keep people entertainer throughout their stay and they will be chuffed to know that you enjoyed yourselves in The Carousel. Our rules, systems and procedures have changed massively during the recent months and we are doing all we can to ensure safety. Unfortunately the one way systems are not always abided to by all however the majority of our guests and Owners are like yourselves and are very respectful to the new way of working. Thank you for informing us of the noise coming from your neighbouring caravan. We are unsure if your reported the noise to our 24/7 Security Team or not, however they would have been able to assist you where possible. We are glad that this hasn't put you off and they you will be back for another visit next year. Fingers crossed the Goldstars will be back to singing and dancing when you return :-) Thank you again for your review, it really is lovely to read that you can see the hard work being put in across all departments to provide a safe and fun holiday. See you next year! The Golden Sands Team

This place is perfect for family holidays ! Its extremely kid friendly. The kids play ground and other areas are well keptt. The site was well maintained. Social distancing was adhered to ery well.
We stayed in a platinum caravan on the co-op side. It was lovely and clean with plenty of space. It was like home from home. We loved that we were litterally a 2 minute walk from the beach which was perfect for the children who loved flying their kites.
The sandpiper bar food is top quality. Portions are big and filling, and even better they offered the eat out to help out scheme wich was a bonus.
The chip shop was great! Offering the service to call placing your order to minimise the ques. The food was lovely and prices great value.
One of the best parts of the holiday was I knew the children with us were able to explore the arcade and couldn't get out and wander as there were doormen at the main door and no child was allowed to leave.
The childrens park was always accessable with the added extra of the beer hut. Perfect for the sunnier days.
The system in place for the evening entertainment was maintained really well ensuring all families were following the government guidelines. A memeber of staff would show you to a table suitable for your party size which all tables were more than 2m apart. Hand sanitizer was available throughout the site.
The staff provided the best possible entertainment for the children. Although with the government restrictions in place they still made sure it was as fun as possible for the children carrying out mini disco with toons of energy. Tony and Rosie stood out for us and made us feel so welcome. By getting us involved in the night time quiz's bringing the banter and both always smiling and being so chatty and energetic. They are both a huge credit to golden Sands.
We enjoyed our stay so much we have already booked back up for next year.

Check in was amazing with a video and updates via WhatsApp for when the caravan was ready.
We were in the seabreeze area which we were really happy with, as it’s very busy and close in the main part and it wasn’t a long walk from the van to reception etc
The caravan could have done with a good air out, but I guess that’s the difficulty with everyone wanting to holiday in the UK. It wasn’t as clean as I would have expected it to be but due to Covid I had taken my cleaning bits anyway to make me feel more comfortable so didn’t feel the need to mention this to reception because we didn’t want/need them to do anything to the it.
The food in the sandpiper restaurant was nice and well priced - big shout out to Tyler who was just so friendly and so hard working!
The park was very clean and was a great location (apart from the train line, that really wasn’t great in the evening as it’s quite loud and close)
Overall we had a really nice break and we enjoyed the park

Dear BanburyTourist1, Thank you for taking the time to review us and for your balanced view of our park. We fully agree that it is our staff that make Golden Sands the park that it is. Each member of the Golden Sands team is hard working and fully committed to ensuring everybody enjoys their holiday so we are glad you have seen that for yourselves :-) Due to the current situation, we have had to make a few changes to normal processes - such as check in. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed these changes and thank you for being understanding and prepared for things having to be a little different. We will pass on your comments to the team and look forward to seeing you again one day, Thanks again, The Golden Sands Team

Transferred holiday from half term last year as refunds were not offered by Hoseasons in May 2020.
We have stayed on this camp multiple times, understandably a Late check in due to extended cleaning procedure due to covid, should have been 4pm it was closer to 5pm, however the caravan wasn’t very clean, our son found a sugar bowl of used cigarettes under the double bed and crisps under the other beds, it didn’t smell very clean either, we reported to reception and was offered a deep clean or some air freshener! We took the air freshener and cleaned the caravan our selves.
Swimming was not the best due to having to book which we completely understand however you have to call at 10am and 3pm for morning and afternoon time slots, it’s first come first served, we called over 200 times one morning, constantly engaged when we did get through it was fully booked, which was very disappointing. Only one family is allowed in every 15 mins and they are only open 10-4.
We booked the restaurant, it was very expensive, however the food was delicious and the waiting staff were lovely.
The on-site Chippy was really nice and lady behind the counter was lovely.
No camp shop as it’s closed down which we were not made aware of, so it’s a treck to the closest shop and the bridge over to Happy Days was locked all week, no where on the site to get ice creams or ice Lollies.
Our son took his iPad so he would use the internet, we paid £20 for 4 days (£5 per day), it wasn’t very reliable and he had to sit in one certain spot to get a connection, we called the helpline and they couldn’t offer a solution.
Camp was lovely and clean, and security were constantly driving around, reception staff not as helpful and friendly as previous years, don’t think we will be returning.

Response from Golden Sands Holiday Park, Owner at Golden Sands Holiday Park
Responded 10 Jun 2021
Dear Jen H, Thank you for taking the time to review our park. There is a lot of information in your review that we feel will be beneficial to future guests however we would like to take this opportunity to respond to some of the points you have mentioned. The standard of cleanliness in your caravan was unacceptable and we can only apologies. Our Housekeeping team under go continuous training and we will use your review to assist with this. Our team would have been happy to deep clean your unit for you however we appreciate that at the time you preferred to clean the caravan yourself. Once again, we are very sorry that you had a delay to your check in and further to that found the caravan unclean. The swimming pool is very stretched at the moment due to limited capacity both in the pool and in the changing rooms. Our opening times have been set in order to ensure that the pool has enough time to deep clean after a day of opening. As we have small changing facilities we only permit 1 family in at a time meaning we can clean between arrivals. We appreciate booking ahead is far from ideal and are working on a way to make this easier for guests in the future. Our Shop is currently being transformed for 2022. The shop at the end of the lane does do deliveries direct to the caravan, as does Asda and we have a small selection of ice creams and lollies available in The Sandpiper. Your review has shown us that we need to make our guests more aware of this and we thank you for bringing it to our attention. Direct internet access is sourced via an outside company meaning you do have to speak directly to them regarding your connection and/or a possible refund. We do have internet in The Sandpiper and The Carousel Bar which is maintained and supplied by Golden Sands. Thank you for complimenting the cleanliness of the park and the presence of our Security Team. As we stated before, we feel that your review will be useful for many future guests. We will keep our fingers crossed that we will see you return again one day, The Golden Sands Team

We (3 friends) stayed for a long weekend (Fri - Mon, 13th - 16th March 2020) and found this very good value for money.
We stayed in a silver caravan and it was suitable for our needs The kitchen had the basic utensils you needed (pans, jugs, cutlery etc). The only poor aspect for us was there being no towels which wasn't stated but luckily we had taken our own anyway and only being provided with one roll of toilet roll but again, these being the only minor faults we couldn't complain.
We got the 12 or X12 bus into Llandudno for £15 (day saver for 5 people) which took around an hour and also the bus to Rhyl centre which took about 10 minutes. The bus stop is directly outside of the park and are approx every 10 mins.
The prices in the park's bar are reasonable with a beer costing approx £4 and the staff friendly enough.
If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful holiday i would certainly recommend this park with direct beach access, shops, bars, cafes and supermarkets all within 5/10 min walk its great with plenty to do for all ages.

This reveiw spans two stays we had at Golden Sands. The first time we stayed Mid August, we hired a 'comfort' caravan. We were placed in a caravan that was badly worn and damaged (see pictures). We had a 3 day/2 night stay. We tried to book our slot at the onsite swimming pool the first day we arrived, we were told there was no availability until the morning we were due to check out, complained to reception who managed ot get us booked in for the next morning. Arrived at the onsite restaraunt on the first night, placed our food order, waited 30 minutes to then be toled they were closing the kitchecn as a staff memebr had tested positive on site for Covid. Refunded our money and were told we would have to go to the onsite chippy and bring it back into the restaraunt. Used the swimming pool the following day which is not suitable for kids. You get reprimanded for jumping in, splashing, sitting on the wall, just generally anything other than swimming in a straight line like you're training for the Olympics. The pool is really small, its not how it looks on their fancy website. Went to the restaraunt on the second night to be told they werent taking food orders as the kitchen were falling behind, so on-site chippy it was again. Whilst in the onsite entertainment club on the second evening, I left our bingo dabbers, drinks and my sons medication on the whilst I went to the bar to get myself na dthe kids another drink (I was on my own with my two lads), whilst I was gone someone kindly cleared our table, cleared away our drinks and threw away my sons medication and our bingo dabbers, had to speak to security to get the medication back. We ended up with a partial refund of our holiday and an apology for the hassle. Made the mistake of giving them a second try as we'd got a discount of 15% off if we booked again this year, booked another 3 day/2 night stay at begining of September. This time we've been put in a decent caravan but the cleaners have unfortunatley forgotten to put toilet roll in the bathroom before we checked in. I reported it on their app, had no response, went to reception a couple of hours later, they said they'd get it sorted, went out for the afternoon and came back, still not been sorted, been back to reception and was basically told everyone was too busy, they'll get round to it. Its a toliet roll, I'm not asking for someone to build me a balcony extension. I've ended up just driving to the shop off-site and buying some myself. Also no availability in the on-site pool, again, we've managed to get booked in for the morning we leave, but I've had to request a late check out to allow us more time they've happily obliged, and charged me £20 for the priviliedge. I know the prices seem lower to other sites in the area, but trust me, there is a reason. Just pay the bit extra and stay somewhere else.

Had to pay £96 for registration fee and handover of caravan keys for 4 adults 3 all in there 80s.
Told them I didn’t want the camp passes as wouldn’t be using the club facilities as I took my parents and her sister for a break.
Was told that it was not for the passes as they were free but then gave me 4 wrist bands 🤔 told her so the payment is for the passes she said no that’s free wouldn’t have paid only she told me if I dont pay I don’t get the key 😡
Just out of interest asked the club any entertainment on she said no we have the football On 😩, I said no bingo she said no but you can go to palins or winkups 🤬went to look around she said have you got your wrist band ?
I said no you don’t need it it’s free ! She said no when you register you pay for your wristbands and you need it to get in club!
I understand if you use the facilities you pay for them ,even though no entertainment on half capacity In restaurant launderette closed no shop BUT 2 caravan sales rooms open.
I have stayed on a few camps previously and if you want to use the club then you pay for the passes so just make sure you have catered for the extra cost
.oh and she said it should have been £152 for 4 but because of COVID the kept it at low season prices 😳 absolute joke won’t be booking there again. Also caravan owner said the money was for the passes.

Response from Golden Sands Holiday Park, Owner at Golden Sands Holiday Park
Responded 21 Aug 2020
Dear shane62, Thank you for taking the time to review our park. From your review it is apparent that your booking was through a private caravan Owner and not directly through the park. All of our Owners are instructed regularly to ensure they inform their guests about the Registration Fee before they arrive. The Registration Fee is there to cover the different amenities of the park such as 24/7 Security, bin collections, grounds, maintenance etc. The Registration Fee has a set price per person and is NOT for passes. Passes are included for free once the Registration Form has been completed and the Registration Fee has been paid. All of our Owners know this and should have passed that information down to you before you arrived at Golden Sands. We completely understand and appreciate that a 'hidden' cost upon arrival is not what you were expecting and is not fair. We would urge you to contact the Owner directly with your complaint. We would also like you to email us at bookings@goldensandsrhyl.co.uk with some more information so that we can also contact the Owner as not telling you about the Registration Fee is against the parks regulations and will be dealt with from a park level. Unfortunately until Monday 17th August, we were unable to programme activities such as bingo and quizzes due to Government Guidelines however we do now have those events running daily. We are unsure who you spoke to but if you could pop over some more details about who it was that would really help us to ensure the same information is being given to everyone. We hope that you can see from the tone of this reply that we are saddened to read your review and are frustrated that the Owner you booked through didn't give you required information leaving you angry at our park. Please do email us and we will do all we can to follow up with the Owner. Thank you, The Golden Sands Team

We liked this site as it is very close to the beach and very handy for shopping at Asda! It was kept clean and the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We booked our caravan through a management company but there were a couple of problems with it - a broken toilet seat which had fallen off and a broken shower. We contacted the company and someone arrived within 45 mins and carried out both repairs to our satisfaction. We couldn't fault them. I felt sorry for the people who kept the site clean as some thoughtless people kept leaving their rubbish bags by the numerous bins around the site instead of putting them inside. The seagulls immediately pecked at them looking for food and the contents then were scattered about and then had to be cleaned up. One disappointment was I couldn't find any recycling bins. Our main problem was the families who had no consideration for others. On our first night people in the van behind us stayed up talking and laughing loudly until 4 a.m. so we hardly had any sleep. The next day we read the leaflet issued by the site regarding noise (no noise after 9 p.m.) so when the same people were still shouting loudly outside after 11 p.m. we rang security who arrived immediately and asked them to be quiet. When he left the noise started again so we rang again and he came back. This time they were quiet so we managed to get to sleep but an hour later they were back shouting and laughing. We then heard a man's voice being raised so I don't know if it was security who had arrived again or whether someone from another van had decided to intervene but they shut up after that. The next morning I went to reception to complain and they contacted the owner of the caravan where the noisy people were staying. We were told that they would be warned again and if they persisted in being noisy their holiday would be terminated and they would be asked to leave. After that we heard not a sound from them. We managed 2 good nights sleep and then the 3 women and 1 man in the caravan next to us had a screaming row at 2 in the morning. They came outside and continued yelling right under our bedroom window so I picked up my phone to call security but then someone shouted "Fight over" and they went back inside slamming the door and silence reigned. The next morning 2 of the women left. We needed a good nights sleep on our last night as we had to get up early to load the car for the long drive home but at midnight a woman from nearby decided to have a conversation outside on her mobile phone. This time I decided to go out myself and ask her to be quiet but a very heavy rain shower sent her inside. We have had many caravan holidays over the years but never have we experienced such lack of consideration for others. It has definitely put us off using this site again although we know it was not their fault.

Response from Golden Sands Holiday Park, Owner at Golden Sands Holiday Park
Responded 23 Nov 2021
Dear Gillian C, It is such a shame that despite you stating positive things about our park, it was the actions for other guests that would detour you from returning. We are sorry to read that other holidaymakers behavior impacted your stay and although we can tell that our Security Team were proactive and did respond to you requests, this should not happen regularly. We thank you for your review and for understanding that we are unable to control others to this level of consideration. We wish you many happy future holidays, Thank you again, The Golden Sands Team

Stayed at golden sands with 3 friends this week and had a really good stay, friendly staff and they send you WhatsApp notifications with the map of the site and where your caravan it and when it’s ready to check in if it’s earlier than it’s supposed to be.
Caravan was really big to my surprise as it was any first time, wasn’t as clean as I would have liked but also nothing major just hadn’t been swept or cleaned in cuboards etc properly but for what we paid can’t complain.
Bar - bingo and other things on every night and the prices are pretty reasonable. Entertainment staff are nice and friendly and keep the kids occupied and involve tables as they pass. Bar staff were ok... friendly enough.
Restaurant - this was the only down point for us, staff were uninterested and pretty blunt, didn’t look like they wanted to be there, I think if there was an older member of staff present or a manager serving on the bar with them it would maybe run better as we nearly walked out with the atmosphere. Shame as it’s the only bad part of the holiday.
Will 100% be back, have actually already booked for October but I wouldn’t eat in the restaurant again, would go to near by pubs. Loads to do close by and it’s in a perfect location.

Dear dalemcl, Thank you for taking the time to review our park and for your fair review. Reviews are important to us as we use guest's experiences to assist with ongoing training and improvements. We are glad to read that you liked the new check in process and found the caravan to be bigger than expected. Your comments regarding the cleaning will be passed on to Debbie, our Housekeeping Manager so that she can discuss them with her team. We strive for 5* cleanliness so apologise that this wasn't the case for you and your friends. Kieran is our Complex Manager and will be read your points regarding The Sandpiper. We are saddened that our restaurant let your experience down and we know that Kieran will be too. Your comments will be used during team training and we would love you to consider giving the restaurant another chance upon your return in October? Overall we are happy that you enjoyed your first stay in a caravan and look forward to welcoming you back! See you soon, The Golden Sands Team

Booked to arrive 3rd of October. Booked through breakfree holidays which offers local newspaper offers.
Had issues from the start with 'no record of my booking' and was told on two occasions I would be called back which never happened. The holiday was cancelled due to local lockdown and to be honest by this point we were relieved as the customer service had already been poor.
I have chased several times for a refund of the money I paid directly to the park for the service charge and entertainment passes. How hard is it to refund someone! No reply to my emails or facebook messages. Fobbed off being told I get a refund by them once I get a refund from breakfree holidays (newspaper promotion) who today confirmed what I already suspected... they havent had a request to refund me from Golden Sands.
Breakfree have been great and constantly updated me via facebook messenger.
Golden Sands stop sending generic replies and refund me! If you are in lockdown how are you too busy to reply and do your job properly! Would never in a million years book here again!!

Dear NancyMCoventry, We have spoken to our Holiday Sales and Yield Manager Zara and she is very confused by your review. Zara has said that none of her team are aware of your situation which is unusual as we are currently working with skeleton staff so team size is very small. Please can you email us at bookings@goldensandsrhyl.co.uk so that we can look into this for you? There may have been a problem with your booking that has stopped it showing on our system? We pride ourselves on good customer service and would like to rectify and resolve the issue for you. Hopefully we can get this sorted soon, The Golden Sands Team
