Great menu choice, roast meal and another course £14 lunchtime, or 3 courses £16. Hot beef baguette delicious. Real ale served in rustic bar setting. Jug of water provided on dining table. Friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended.

We stayed for a couple of nights in November and the accommodation and the food were both excellent. The pub itself has real character and was wonderfully cosy on a very wet, cold Friday evening. Our party used 3 bedrooms and all were very tastefully decorated and appointed. Breakfast, lunch and dinner(yes, we tried them all!) had really good menus...

We popped in here without a booking after a wet Exmoor walk. I'd eaten here before and it had always been good. It was my birthday, when we turned up there was another birthday girl celebrating her 80th (I am slightly younger!). The staff were obviously busy organising her birthday buffet but we were made to feel very welcome, and...

Stayed for one night in November. Upgraded to the suite, massive bed, lovely free standing bath and large separate shower. Newly upgraded and nicely decorated. Excellent evening meal. Good local ales to start, tasty well cooked high quality meal. Good portion size. The fresh fruit salad with cereals, and cooked breakfast next day was the perfect end to our short...

We last visited in the summer and didn't need much persuading to return in a different season of the year. We had Room 1/the suite again which is just fantastic with the biggest bed ever. We stayed 2 nights enjoying evening meal on both evenings. The ambience of the pub was lovely this time of year with open fire, Christmas...

Friends took us to the Royal Oak as a big thank you for services rendered. Opened the door and the warmth and friendly ambience embraced us with superb rural hospitality. The Christmas decorations were so skilful and tasteful, none of this overdone gaudiness so evident elsewhere. The service was most attentive without any flamboyance or obsequiousness. The food was excellent, above...

Welcoming, fire place going, good food and lovely room. I stayed there last weekend and the price of the (very nice comfy) room at £70 a night is still fair for a solo traveller. The food was lovely and on the large portion side which explains why I couldn't go for a dessert the 2nd night! Shame as I had...

Having stayed at the Royal Oak on several occasions over the past 15 years up until a few years ago, we were keen to experience the Inn since the change of ownership and the alterations. We stayed for 2 nights half board. On arrival we were met with a warm welcome from Douglas the owner and showed to our room...

We eat here on a regular basis ( Sunday lunch every two weeks and occasional suppers in between ) because the food is excellent, the ales are splendid and the place itself is very cosy, welcoming and unpretentious. We are always greeted warmly and, having visited very many other local Exmoor pubs, we consider The Royal Oak one of the...
