We stayed in The Oak Room. Comfy four-poster bed, ancient wood panelled walls. Modern bathroom. All presented to a very good standard. The breakfast was lovely and service very good. The staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. Very interesting place to stay and only 20 minutes from Chichester. The town of Midhurst is nice to explore too.
Dating from the fifteenth century, this historic hotel is a great base to explore the South Downs and the Chichester area, as well as visiting Goodwood. There are plenty of period features in the rooms and common areas but overall, the hotel feels a little tired, especially at the prices quoted. The room was comfortable and we liked the large bed, high pressure shower and big TV. We enjoyed some time at the pool, which gets busy, so go at the start or end of the day. Breakfast was disappointing and service was slow but we did enjoy the cream tea in the bar. Staff were helpful throughout and the hotel is very dog friendly.
My husband and I stayed one night (26th April). We booked into a cosy room, the perfect size for the two of us for one night. Unfortunately there was scaffolding blocking any view from the window but for one night we could cope. The bed was comfortable and the shower was very good. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant and the staff were attentive without being over the top. The mark up on alcohol is something akin to most London hotels, so a little disappointing, but we aren't there to drink heavily so. The bartender in the Lounge Bar was lacking in social skills but may have been shy or new to her job so we reserve too much judgement on that point. Breakfast was terrible and we certainly wouldn't pay to come in from outside for it. The vegetarian breakfast is advertised as having a "vegetable sausage" but in fact has a LMc sausage (£1 for a box of 6 in any supermarket!) - disappointing! Everything else was stone cold. The full English was just as bad. Sadly, we don't think we would come back to stay as there are other competing places in Hampshire that just get it right. It is a shame as The Spread Eagle has the signs of being so much more...…
My daughter & I spent one night at the Spread Eagle Hotel on a 'muddy paws break' with our cockapoo, Mickey. Our room was upgraded to a suite which was very nice & Mickey was made extremely welcome with bowls & a bed in the room plus a stylish new towelling robe! The Hotel was busy with both a conference & a pre wedding party but the staff couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the bar & breakfast in the conservatory the next morning after a dip in the hot tub. All the food was scrumptious. We will definitely return & would highly recommend. It was a very relaxing & enjoyable break. There are plenty of nice walks in the surrounding area.
We stayed one night for dinner bed and breakfast with spa access. We had one treatment included in our deal. The spa area is very nice, heated pool, outdoor relaxing area, steam room, sauna, gym and treatment rooms. I chose a pedicure which was excellent. Robes and slippers are provided in the rooms. We also chose to have afternoon tea in the pretty conservatory area. We had pre dinner drinks in the oldest part of the hotel which has large fireplaces and would probably be wonderful in the winter time. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was at the rear of the hotel with an unattractive outlook unfortunately but I guess the spa break deals get the cheaper rooms. Perhaps you could upgrade but we were perfectly happy. Tea/coffee making facility in the room but no milk provided - apparently you could ask for some if you needed but it would be nice to have milk automatically especially in the morning when you wake up. Iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. Good towels. Good shower. Nice toiletries. The service from all the staff was absolutely excellent. Our dinner was very delicious, as was the breakfast. Some other guests had charged a round of drinks to our room but this was easily rectified. Perhaps the bar staff should ask to see the room key or something as proof before allowing charges to the room? There is a good sized car park but no electric car charging points. We received a complimentary newspaper in the morning. Some of the building dates back to 1430!! Lots of beams and stained glass etc. Very pretty.…
