It is also just a short walk from the bustling 10th-century harbour where Britain’s most famous living artist, Damien Hirst, owns a restaurant. We arrived at 7.45pm after a cock up by Shearing. (no driver) when we arrived at hotel someone came out with our keys and Told
us to go straight to the dining room.
Our meal was very disappointing the soup and main course we're only Luke warm.
At breakfast next morning we went down at 8.40. 9am finish after quing for 10 minutes to do our toast, when we went for our food there was no plates, no bacon, and no beans. Eventually got some, went back to table and cold toast. Not a fine start to our break.

Thank you for posting your comments, I am sorry for the issues you encountered on your arrival to the hotel, As the review below is also relating to the late arrival I am surprised by your comments regarding the food as the others have mention how well they were looked after and fed despite arriving late. This is a really welcoming and comfortable hotel, many thanks to the professionalism of the whole staff team who worked tirelessly to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

After a difficult journey we arrived 3hrs later than expected but were met with a warm welcome by the Manager who quickly explained the check-in procedure etc. Despite our late arrival we were able to choose from the full dining room menu which offered at least 3 choices for each course plus coffee which was taken in a separate lounge area. At the end of the meal we went to find our room (315) and it was great to find our luggage waiting outside. The room was absolutely fine, comfortable bed and lots of drawer/hanging space and we had no complaints about the central heating. Good shower pressure and lots of hot water.

The reception team were very helpful handling a variety of queries which if we'd taken the time to read all the information we could have answered the majority ourselves!!

Breakfast was buffet style with good coffee, hot plates, and hot food that was frequently replenished. Additional items could be requested at no additional cost e.g porridge, kippers, boiled eggs.

Entertainment was good - quiz, male vocalist, comedian, bingo, dancing - something for everyone what's not to like or enjoy!! If this wasn't your thing there were a couple of seating areas with comfortable sofas and chairs where you could have a quiet drink, read a book etc. Yes, the hotel is a little 'shabby chic' in places and in need of a little tlc but it is comfortable.

The hotel is well placed for an easy 5 min walk into the harbour or if you're feeling energetic walking the 'Tarka Trail'. The main shopping street is located up the hill behind the hotel where there are a variety of independent shops

Thanks to all the team at the Dilkhusa Grand Hotel for making our stay so comfortable. Would fully recommend this Shearings Holiday itinerary - for £82pp where else could you travel by luxury coach from the North of England, enjoy dinner/bed & breakfast for 3 nights,entertainment each night plus the bonus of 4 free drinks on a Saturday night - no complaints whatsoever!!

Weekend stay here in mid November. Although we have stayed at several Shearing's hotels, this was the first time for us in Ilfracombe. We were self drive and pleased with the available parking area at the side of the hotel, with access through the rear of the hotel. The hotel was in a good location with nearby gardens, harbour & Wetherspoons all on the flat and bus stop right outside. The hotel was clean and tidy, but in our room there was quite a deep step into the bathroom, with a handrail to hold on! This didn't detract from our enjoyment, although it could prove difficult for some people. The food was excellent, but unfortunately no mushrooms or tomatoes for breakfast although everything else was delicious. There is only one lift with space for 4 people, which is reduced if you have cases, and patience is definitely a virtue. The entertainment was very good, with Scott Paige, a seasoned Cruise singer, Dean Winters, comedian and Rick Tucker a guitar vocalist. Vision can be a bit of a problem with pillars restricting views from certain areas, but a TV relays the performance to those areas. All staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful and we look forward to returning again.

this hotel is a gem
we went for a quiet and relaxing time
and we got it
all the staff are lovely from the reception to the bar staff
a special thanks you to Linda who helped when we asked for a change of room what a lovely lady
and to JACKIE P she serviced our room every day ,what a nice cheerful and hard working lady
our room was room 229 and it was spotless and well maintained and we had a clean and fresh bedding and towels and we liked it
we did not eat at night and we did have breakfast it was great .. we did eat in a couple of days in the tea room and the food is great ..unfortunately it is cold in there but we would eat again in there .
the evening entertainment was not bad Monday was good Tuesday was good Wednesday was marvellous but Thursday a lady singer who was not that good
I do think that it is a shame that entertainment stops at 10.30 felt as though we were told to go to bed having said that we love this hotel and ilfracombe and we have booked to go again on the 3rd of December hope to get the same room thank you to everyone for making this few days good

Just back from a 5 day Shearings break. Hotel not over busy for this week, and had a double room for sole occupancy. Also, I particularly liked having a table to myself in the restaurant, while still in proximity to others, so could easily chat to those around me. It was noticeable how well the restaurant was run, and how friendly and professional the manager and her staff were. Also I must commend the chefs for the standard of food. As BayHotels offer basically the same menu in each hotel, interesting to note the differences in quality. This also applied at breakfast with the excellent buffet constantly checked and replenished. No running out and hanging around here! I would also like to commend the Steak Night. Yes it cost more, but was well worth it, and rounded the holiday off perfectly. I don’t know where some other reviewers found anything shabby. I thought both my bedroom and public areas were clean and tidy.
North Devon very quiet at this time of year, and the poor weather didn’t help, but I really enjoyed my break. (Thanks also to our very knowledgeable and excellent driver Andrew). I look forward to visiting again.
Hotel isn’t and doesn’t pretend to be the last word in luxury, but value for money was excellent. One or two other Bay Hotel Managers and Head Chefs could do with visiting here to see how it should be done.
