It's not one of the bigger hotels but it was clean and comfortable. It is right on the sea front overlooking the sea. You can clearly see St. Mary,s Lighthouse and is so very handy to carry on up the coast to see the rest of the beautiful coastline or go slightly inland for beautiful countryside.

This demonstrates why Tripadvisor can be misleading. This hotel was fifth out of twelve when I booked, and I am sure that's right but unfortunately I didn't realize the standards of hotel in the area must be very low. For one night, I thought it was going to be ok until I went for a shower. Some water came out...

Stayed here for one night before surgery next morning at North tyneside hospital. Hotel was very accommodating as room I had been allocated was on the top floor but the lady on reception moved me to the first floor due to having a problem with my foot. My en-suite room was lovely and immaculately clean. Had a lovely meal of...

Lovely area to explore, friendly staff and the Itallian Restuarant next door which is owned by the hotel is well worth a visit. Plenty areas for walking and enjoying everything Whitley Bay has to offer its visitors. Excellent breakfast where we were joined by a pet seagull tapping its beak on the dining room window.

We found the hotel staircases confusing. The room was average. There was a view of rooftops. Having the window open meant the room filled with cooking smells. Bed was comfy. Television worked. The staff were all very friendly and pleasant. The breakfast was very good, self service which I like. All the reviews recommended the Italian restaurant which actually belongs...

Visited for afternoon tea with a friend who had purchased the voucher, upon arrival the air conditioning was on turbo so room was freezing. Despite being almost empty is was sometime before a lady came to serve us, when she did she provided a cursory explanation of the afternoon tea. The menu choice was very disappointing as you only had...

Having read recent afternoon tea reviews I didn't have high expectations of tea at the Royal but I have to say I can thoroughly recommend it. The table had a sea view and the service was prompt and pleasant. Good choice of fresh sandwiches, delicious home made scones ( four different flavours), with butter, cream and jam. A selection of desserts...

Just an overnight stay, room was fine for what we wanted but if staying longer would have booked a premium room with sea view etc, breakfast , breakfast area and breakfast staff could not be beaten anywhere

We stayed here on a cold, windy Sunday night in April. The room was cosy - we were concerned at first as there was no heating on, and borrowed a fan heater, but the heating seemed to switch on at 5pm and it was cosy after that. The windows were pretty new double glazed units, which opened for ventilation but...

We had received an afternoon tea as a gift so decided to take it up, especially after reading good reviews. Sadly what we received wasn't up to what previous reviews had said. The sandwiches were poor, with the roast beef lacking flavour and still cold from the fridge. The highlight of the bad bunch was the scone, and although not...
