We stayed for 2 nights in a cosy sea view double room on the top floor which was perfect for our time on the Island. Had a meal at the hotel on our first night which was very nice and good value. We chose The Clifton as we were going to The Shanklin Theatre on the Saturday and it's just... More

A beautiful location, helpful and friendly staff, (they arranged the ferry crossing for us,) and a good breakfast. The room overlooking the bay was very comfortable and well appointed. A 2 day visit was far too short but all we had time for.

Welcoming staff, great breakfast. Bus from Ryde stopped outside the door and it was easy to walk to the station for the next day's activities. Restaurant was closed (as nobody had pre-booked), but we found a good restaurant a short walk away - there's many to choose from.

Located on the cliff top at Shanklin, there is a good view out to sea, a pleasant cliff top walk and a lift down to Shanklin beach. So, really a very location. The hotel is typical of the area, quite small with an intimate atmosphere, nicely furnished and maintained and there is a garden seating area looking out sea. There... More

We returned for a second visit this year and again found the hotel and staff most welcoming. This time we dined in the bistro (normally a little late for us to eat!), and this too was an excellent meal served in the most comfortable surroundings. Thanks again for your hospitality. All the best! Caz & Dave R

Extremely comfortable, well decorated, totally clean, everything provided. Evening meals were well cooked - I had the Steak and Ale Suet Pudding and it was absolutely lovely! Sea view sitting in the garden with cliff walk straight out the door. Staff were very helpful, considerate and I would happily stay again.

We stayed here on 2day break voucher and found the hotel and staff very pleasant. The people who wrote dust city review must be very fussy. All hotels will have rooms that have little or poor views, if you want a good view upgrade that's why rooms have different prices. We upgraded to a bay view room (no 14)and ot... More

We stayed here as the result of a birthday gift to my wife from her work colleagues. We didn't know quite what to expect but in a 'sea of hotels and guest houses' this one was in a good cliff top location with views. The parking was easy, and access in general, good. The dining room/bar/conservatory arrangement was rather effective... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Clifton’s privileged location on the cliff top offers an amazing sea view and makes it an ideal retreat for those in search of tranquility. The Conservatory Bistro offers a stunning view of the bay which can also be enjoyed from the lovely garden offering the perfect visual tonic to relax and revitalise, perhaps with a good book and an English Cream Tea, or refreshments from the licensed bar. Local is Best……with prime farming land all around us and a host of specialist growers and producers making the most of it, we usually have access to plenty of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as quality fish and meat. The garden opens out to Keats Green and the lovely walk between Shanklin and Sandown (part of the Isle of Wight Coastal Path) with fantastic views across Sandown Bay. This also leads to the famous Shanklin Chine with a pathway down to the sandy beaches. Within easy reach by foot are the picturesque Shanklin Old Village with its thatched roofs, and the beautiful Rylstone Gardens. ... more   less
