We have visited a number of times over the past four years and it never disappoints. The restaurant service is good and the food delightful. (Try the cakes!) Its very close to the centre of Barnstable - museum close by and even old fashioned toy shops 1 minute walk away!

This is what it says on the tin, a good 3 star hotel. Rooms very clean and comfortable with well appointed bathrooms. Breakfast was all we eat, but they were excellent and the staff are very helpful. The hotel had secure parking which was good with us being on a golf trip.

We stayed here in January for a family visit. We were expecting it to be of extremely high spec in the rooms as the main entrance and reception were quite spacious and smart, however our rooms weren't of the same standard. The room was an okay size, the floorboards creaked with every step I took- I'm normally a pretty laid...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our hotel. I am glad that you found our new foyer to be spacious and smart. With regards to the rooms, as an historic building the hotel does have a variety of rooms of varying shapes, sizes, and quirks. The majority of the rooms have recently been modernised, and...

We checked in as a family of 5 for one Saturday night as we came down to Barnstaple to celebrate a family birthday. Minor panic when I saw the car park that was half building site and only space for 6 cars (and was full) so called reception to be told by the lovely lady on it that if I...

We were a party of 4 for two nights plus 1 for one night. Without exception we found The Royal and Fortescue Hotel absolutely outstanding in every way. From the moment of our arrival the friendly staff, working brilliantly together to ensure guests' comfort and satisfaction, could not have been more helpful, responding cheerfully to any request. The bright and...

This hotel is very conveniently located if you want to stay in the heart of Barnstaple (my reason for staying there). The car park is tiny (I had to pay to park in a public car park 5 minutes away), my room was tiny (despite paying for an upgrade) but my bathroom was very good (although the wonderful looking shower...

We were upgraded to a wonderful room 205. Unfortunately, the upstairs residents woke up at 6.30 and spent the next 2 hours walking around on the very squeaky floor boards followed by the lift dinging every time it arrived outside the bedroom door, whatever time of day or night. However the food was good and plentiful and the Staff were...

We stayed here for a few days, it is still a. Great place to stay, it's handy for the town which is pedestrianised and the Pannier Market etc. The lounge is comfortable and the staff always charming and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and well equiped and the wi Fi is good and free. The breakfast seems to have lost...

Took my wife here for lunch on her birthday. Lovely lunch plus bubbly, think she was suitably impressed. Lovely food and great surroundings. Service was good and the restaurant was full. Recommended, will have to try here for evening meal soon !
