Barrow's famous town centre hotel. Bought by Lancaster Brewery in 2006, the Duke has been completely reinvented and is now a luxury, town centre hotel with fifty one ensuite rooms/suites, a stylish cask ale bar, resident's dining lounge and stunning cocktail/restaurant cellar bar. The hotel bedrooms include flat screen televisions, Egyptian cotton linen/towels, free wifi, over-sized beds, room service and contemporary bathrooms. A new addition to the Duke in 2017 is the arrival of acclaimed, Michelin 3 star winning chef Steven Doherty. Having run Cumbrian gastro-pubs since the 1990s, Steven is now Lancaster Brewery's Executive Chef and ensures that we produce really first class dining experiences for all our guests. The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel is located in the heart of Barrow, 100 yards from the train station, a couple of minutes walk to the town centre, accessible for the Lake District by train or car and less than 5 miles from South Lakes Safari Zoo.

My husband's 70th Birthday meal with family and friends. Party of 12. Everybody had something different. Really good food - nothing was too much trouble for the staff to make sure everyone was Ok for drinks as well as food. (Actually travelled in January 2018 not February - late

Wasn't expecting a lot after last year but we were very pleasantly surprised. Service was good and the food was excellent - even without sprouts! Would definitely recommend. Karen is brilliant and very efficient. 100 % better than last year

We had a great overnight stay in Barrow. the hotel is lovely and does have an elevator (which I've found can be rare outside of the big hotel chains) which was a welcome relief as our room was on the top floor. We had travelled a very long way and they were very accommodating at

Good evening, Barrow is on the south west corner of Cumbria, quite a long way (90 mins in a car) from Bassenthwaite and about 30-35 mins from Windermere. The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel is located approximately 5 mins walk from the train station, but the trains around the Lakes are limited. Too many mountains. There is a train line running right along the west coast of Cumbria that can open up some possibilities and the other way heads along the south coast, stopping at places like Cark and Grange over Sands. Hope that helps. The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel.

How far is this hotel away from abbey house hotel and gardens?
Good afternoon, the Abbey House Hotel is located about 1.5 miles outside of Barrow (and our hotel), on the same road as the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel. There aren't any hotels any closer, that I'm aware of. Best regards The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel
