Like a magical secret, Rhinefield House is located deep within the New Forest National Park. Step inside and the aura of magic simply deepens - and nowhere more spectacularly than in the Alhambra Room, bedecked in glittering jewels. With beautiful surroundings and a blend of Tudor and Gothic architecture, Rhinefield is the most perfect fairytale wedding venue. It is also the ideal setting for an indulgent break and an inspiring conference venue for meetings, team building or product launches. Downtime means the chance to take in the great outdoors we have on our doorstep, whether its pony trekking, long walks in the forest or a day trip to the sea.

Detailed Reviews
Four adults booked two double rooms for a three night deal through secret escapes. It included breakfast and a £35pp contribution per night to our evening meal. Check in was quick and we were able to go to our rooms early as they were ready. The food was hot nicely presented and very reasonably priced. All the restaurant staff impressed us as they were very friendly and attentive without being over bearing. Louis in particular was very professional. There was a good selection for breakfast. The bar area looked like it needed an update but the staff were attentive and friendly.
Some renovation is being carried out which is only to be expected in the quieter months.
Our room was a good size with a large comfy bed, it was quiet and nice and clean as was our bathroom. We had clean towels every day but I do think in this day and age and if your only staying a couple of nights then there should be an option to reuse towels.
The hotel is impressive set in a beautiful area of the new forest. It was well worth the money for a short break in a lovely area. I would definitely return.

This hotel is in a fabulous location, deep in the heart of the forest and there are some beautiful walks on the doorstep where you can see all of the ponies. The grounds are beautiful and I’m sure in summer perfect with lots of outdoor seating and a pool.
The staff were all so helpful and friendly and we felt very safe (COVID-19) All staff wore masks, the hotel was so clean and tables were spread out in the restaurants and numbers limited - thank you!
We ate in the conservatory and in the Armada restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and each time the food was delicious.
We cannot wait to return one day soon hopefully!

This was the second time in 2019 that my partner and I had spent a weekend away at a hotel near Brockenhurst, having stayed at the Balmer Lawn in February. We managed to get a good deal on a DB&B rate for two nights through OffPeakLuxury and arrived on the evening of the 27th December.
A very different place to the Balmer Lawn, a much older building with more history and much more imposing and in bigger grounds; the welcome from the staff was perfectly pleasant and professional and we were checked in quickly and helped to our room with the luggage and were booked into the fine dining restaurant on both nights.
The fine dining restaurant was a pleasant surprise, and better than I was expecting, I have to say and as my partner is a coeliac, this normally presents restaurants with challenges that some of them cannot always accomodate. The quality of the food, the service in the restaurant was very good indeed. Same could be said of the bistro restaurant the following night. Good service, very reasonable prices, good food and not being rushed; all of these things are positives.
The room itself was a very good size, no problem with the decor, the bed, the temperature of the room, accessibility to the rest of the complex and the spa treatments that we had chosen were both good.
We spent the Saturday afternoon exploring the grounds of the hotel and the surrounding woodlands seeing horses and stags and enjoying taking some time away from it all, which was just what we needed.
Now, given the choice between Rhinefield and the Balmer Lawn, the choice is difficult. Both are very very good but for different reasons. The Rhinefield's level of service is more corporate, more obviously part of the Handpicked Hotels group, less hands-on/attentive, but less obtrusive than the Balmer Lawn. The Balmer Lawn being privately owned reflects the passion and drive of its owners which shines through in everything the staff do; The Rhinefield is not so obvious about that and is more restrained. The grounds of both establishments are fascinating for different reasons, one huge and old fashioned, the other more modern and open on to the plains of the New Forest itself. Price wise, broadly similar, if anything the Balmer was more expensive, although you would have reasonably expected it to be the other way around.
There was only one thing I didnt like about the Rhinefield and this is something that is a common affliction with the Handpicked Hotels group and that is the access road is quite narrow and about 2 miles long and not in the best condition in the world. As a consequence, driving down it in the dark with vehicles coming the other way, both locals and tourists like us, when you dont know the road, can be a little bit unsettling and that put us off going anywhere else in the evening. Having said that, had we arrived earlier on the Friday, this would have not been an issue.
Would I go back again? I have to say that we would. Maybe not at this time of the year, but in the Summer or Autumn, then definitely. What you get for the money is very good indeed, very competent, very enjoyable, very good base for touring and it was genuinely very hard to find fault with.

Dear Guest Thank you for your detailed review and comparison with a local competitor. I am pleased that we were favourability considered against this property. The negative point that you make regarding the hotels access is unfortunately not something that is within our control. The road that you have written of is a public road an not the hotels drive as detailed. This road "The Rhinefield Ornamental drive" shares a name with the hotel but goes through Forestry commission land and is managed by the highways agency, not the hotel. The actual drive the hotel operates is within its fenced area and is two lane allowing easy passing. I hope this information is insightful to you and should you wish to raise the upkeep of this road as an issue I hope that I have been able to point you in the right direction. Best wishes Gareth Davies General Manager

We stayed on this occasion to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday post lockdown and occupied 4 rooms. Felt totally secure given the hotels strict response to government guidelines on health & safety.
Although guidelines were in place we were made to feel like it was business as usual and the service & quality of food were exactly as experienced on previous visits. We ate in the Armada fine dining restaurant on 2 occasions and the food & service was absolutely excellent.
We have eaten at the Angela Hartnett restaurant at Limewood and one of our family members had also ... she commented that the food in the (Armada) restaurant was far superior and much better value for money.
I would like to thank everyone from housekeeping, the waiters that looked after us during breakfast / dinner & also the wonderful receptionists that dealt with my booking and made my daughters 21st birthday so special.
My daughter stated there is nowhere else that she would have rather been than your hotel & the memory will always be special to her.
Thank you once again to all the staff for looking after us & look forward to a return visit in the very near future.

Rhinefield House is in a stunning location deep in the heart of the New Forest and there are many fabulous walks nearby. The hotel building is an interesting mix of Tudor and Gothic style architecture and the grounds are beautiful, with lots of seating areas and an outside pool.
The hotel is very COVID aware which made us feel very safe, the staff were all wonderful and Phil in the restaurant was exceptional and took the time to show us the Alhambra room and explain some of the hotel’s history, as well as providing excellent breakfast service.
Of course the pool and hot tub have to be booked which is a little annoying but necessary with COVID but ultimately it was delightful that we had the whole area for our family’s exclusive use!
The rooms were large and very comfortable and we had interconnecting rooms which worked perfectly for us. The bar is huge so very easy to socially distance and occupy a good sized area (much needed with a crawling baby).
The breakfasts in the restaurant were superb and we also ate in the conservatory, lovely place to eat overlooking the beautiful grounds.
Really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

Dear Guest Thank you for your positive feedback and feedback on your stay. I am pleased to read that you felt safe and well looked after during your time with us. I will pass on your feedback to Phil and thank him for delivering a wonderful experience. I am pleased to see that so many of the measures that we have put in place to look after our guests at this time were positively received. This feedback is really positive as we have worked so hard to put these aspects into place. The team and I hope that you visit us again in the future and again thank you for the feedback. My wife and I stayed here for 3 days during July. Our experience was defined by the fact that it proved impossible to reach anyone by phone at the hotel ahead of checking in. All we wanted to do was to confirm if the spa treatments were confirmed or not because of Covid. In the end, because we were staying in a nearby hotel already, we had to drive out to the hotel for this check on the day before check in. On checking in, we also discovered that our executive rooms are a long convoluted walk from reception because the rooms in fhe main part of the hotel are reserved for timeshares. Because of the isolated location, there is very poor mobile phone reception. Here the positives start: the hotel is surrounded by beautiful woodland, perfect for peaceful walks for as long as you like. The food in the hotel is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. So in short, the hotel itself and the staff are let down by a short sighted corporate policy by "Handpicked Hotels" to constrain manpower to limit costs. The problem is that it seriously impacts on the customer experience - a hotel is (after all) in the SERVICE industry which is about PEOPLE. We will not be coming back.

Responded 27 Aug 2020
Dear Guest Thank you for taking the time to comment and review on your stay with us. I am sorry to read that your experience with us did not deliver the quality that the vast majority of our guests positively comment on. Since reopening the hotel we have been reintroducing the team in stages having delivered a process of detailed training around enhanced health and safety procedures and COVID secure protocols. This approach has meant that we have been able to support in depth and detailed training for the team rather than rush them back into the business unprepared and unsafely. This has in no way been related to cost saving as you have intimated and I am disappointed that you have left the property with this impression. All team members and indeed some additional resources from our sister properties are back and working at the hotel despite us not operating at full capacity of bedroom sales, reducing day guest numbers and not holding large events such as weddings. None of this supports a cost saving approach, but rather a service and people approach as we wish all our guests and team to be safe and secure when in the property. Thank you for your kind comments regarding the food and team in general. I would be pleased to discuss your experience with you personally in further detail should you wish. Best wishes Gareth Davies General Manager

We stayed here for one night with dinner and breakfast with our young baby of 7 months as our first trip away as a family and as a surprise for my birthday. The hotel is breathtakingly beautiful and surrounded by gorgeous architecture and natural beauty.
Staff on arrival were pleasant and nice and the room was set up nicely. However we found the room was quite dusty( my child’s seat was covered with dust after just a couple of hours), the travel cot just had a piece of wood for a mattress, and when we asked for a mattress we were told they only had blankets so we had to relocate her to the main bed. Perhaps due to it being the night before valentine’s day the staff at dinner were extremely busy and not paying much attention. We were seated in the Alhambra dining room which takes your breath away when you walk in, but service was extremely slow, we never got our menus and as we had our young child we decided to order room service instead. I must add that the staff over the phone were kind enough to accommodate a change in our dinner reservation as we were a bit delayed but on the ground we felt the service was not great and felt a bit like we were an inconvenience and the staff generally were confused as to what they were doing. This was especially more disheartening when we saw the same staff behave more friendlier to other guests compared to us so we didn’t feel very comfortable being there. Breakfast was ok and service was a bit better but we were still made to feel like it was super busy when we went at the quietest time and our orders came out wrong. We were never offered a baby seat- I don’t even know if that’s available. The stand out in all of this was Mike from the bar who arranged our room service dinner- he went out of his way to make sure we had a good dinner so thank you and the receptionist on our arrival who took us to our room. Overall beautiful hotel and worth exploring but I wouldn’t want to stay overnight again due to the poor service and I don’t think it’s very baby friendly.

The disappointment of having reserved two intercommunicating rooms with twin beds, but on arrival found that the intercom door was locked and the beds not arranged as requested could have marred our stay. But the room cleanliness, excellent food and obliging waiting staff together with the wonderful setting compensated. The two pools are superb and the gym fair. Gardens are a delight. The reception staff could be slicker. Covid cleanliness seems good but can’t understand why they have removed all seating Around the outside pool but have left garden seating, so our enjoyment around the pools while children swam meant we had to sit on the steps. Very good breakfasts and on the occasion of a poor evening service they immediately compensated.

Dear Guests Thank you for the feedback and comment following your recent stay with us. I am pleased to read that despite the initial disappointment felt on arrival to the hotel, the efforts of the team throughout your stay shone through. Due to the need to insure that only guests booked at a particular pool usage time slot are in the pool area at the given time we have removed the sun loungers that are normally located around the pool. This action was taken to deliver a covid secure environment for guests using the pool area. I trust this explanation explains the situation. Best wishes Gareth Davies General Manager

An overnight stay in this beautiful country house hotel was organised by my daughters to celebrate a birthday weekend for me. The setting in the heart of the New Forest is stunning. The staff were very friendly, polite & professional. The rooms & beds were of a generous size, clean & with en-suites that had heated towel rails & the usual toiletries etc. Dinner in the evening was beautifully presented & very tasty. The menu wasn't overly large but this in fact enhanced the quality of the cuisine. Breakfast the following morning was table service, with a good selection of choice & was brought to us in a timely manner. This again could not be faulted. Two of my daughters used the indoor pool & because of Covid restrictions had a timed slot for its use. This they thoroughly enjoyed as they had the pool to themselves & the time was then extended as no-one was booked in directly after them. Sitting out in the grounds near the water features, relaxing was a very pleasant experience, enhanced by a glass or two of Prosecco. We would definitely visit this lovely hotel again.

+1
We were excited to be visiting this hotel as the images online looked beautiful. On arrival we had our temperature checked and there were certain restrictions in place, which all seemed very good. Staff we encountered were friendly but not well trained. Some spoke very poor English. The building is beautiful, set in the most stunning woodland. Gardens, and especially the many large water features, really make this place. Pools (indoor and outdoor) are nice but very small - not suitable if you want a proper swim. Decor is dated and could do with an update but found hotel very clean, especially as it was during Corona Virus. The most disappointing was the dinner - quality, presentation and taste was unfortunately below average and we would not eat there again. For the price of a very average main course, we had an outstanding 3-course set lunch at Rick Stein’s restaurant in Sandbanks the next day.

Yes there are and also wheelchair access with lifts around the hotel.
There is 1 station with 2 charging leads .
Shame you can't book the poll as we arrived with our children and it's booked out. We stayed in the Metropol in Brighton on Sunday and pre-booked that? Very disappointing.
