We only stayed here for one night but will definitely return, we liked the large top floor room and the breakfast was excellent. Great service from the people there and we look forward to staying for longer next time, it was nice to sit outside with a beer.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a huge top floor suite, perfect for our needs. Breakfast was excellent, had the best selection for vegetarians I have ever been offered. Nice outside space to have a drink on a fine evening. I am not a dog lover, but none bothered me thankfully. Will definitely be back for a longer stay

Going by the previous reviews, we were looking forward to our stay at the Speyside Hotel. (I can now see that the hotel is under new management). Upon arrival we checked in and were greeted by the general manager where we felt immediately unwelcome. Dinner was not available at the hotel itself, however there were options along the high street. The room itself had no towels and needed updating, this may be something that the management will do in time, however a hand towel should be supplied. There was however, no towel rails in the bathroom or in the room itself. It seems the space is not being utilised to its full potential which is a shame as the room and bathroom are both large. The following morning we were awaiting to be seated in the dining room for breakfast, another member of staff had asked the general manager if we could be seated away from animals, to which he replied “who are these people?” which was incredibly rude and unwelcoming! Breakfast was okay, however the order was not correct, despite filling out a tick box order form the previous evening. The manager (who was serving us) did not speak a word throughout the breakfast service, he simply placed things on the table and walked away. There were no ‘your welcome’s uttered when we thanked him for the items brought to the table, in-fact it seemed we were not acknowledged at all (minus asking my husband if he would like another coffee) and we left the hotel with no departing goodbyes or ‘thank you for staying’ etc. Overall the stay was poor and largely overpriced. I know that we are all facing particularly hard times at the moment, and by the looks of things the general manager had a lot of roles within the hotel which must be hard going! However, even the most outstanding hotels would not get very far without a welcoming, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff! A smile and manners don’t cost a penny and yet can leave the best impression!

Response from Mark Huntley, General Manager at The Speyside Hotel
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear KJR_R14 Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on this site. Please accept my sincere apologies that your recent stay did not live up to your expectations. I took over the running of the Speyside Hotel on 7th August and as you point out we have had a very big challenge. Every day I continue to attempt to recruit staff to support us, but to no avail. I do hope you will return to Grantown and give me the opportunity to show you that I can run a friendly, welcoming hotel. Once again please accept my apologies. Regards Mark Huntley

My family and I took a trip up North and booked the Speyside hotel for a one night stay. We paid £205 and having paid this we probably set our expecations a bit too high. Our stay was average at best and whilst some of this review will sound like nit picking I'm just being honest. Arrived at the hotel to find ample parking which was a bonus. Checked in quickly and made our way up to our room. No lift in the hotel so had to carry our luggage up 2 filghts of stairs. Not really an issue for us however might be for others however I'm sure staff could assist if asked. Got to our room and door wasn't locked with door already ajar. The room itself was large with a large bathroom area but very small corner shower cubicle. There were also no towels in the room however management very kindly supplied us with some albeit there is no where to hang them so had no option but to leave them on the bathroom floor. There was no wardrobe in the room and instead there was a small unit that could only hold a small amount of clothes - again didn't effect us to much as we were only there for one night but for people staying for a few nights you will need to improvise. The TV that was mounted on the wall was mounted in a way that you couldn't actually watch it from the two single beds without tilting your neck. Our view was also sadly an eye sore - overlooking several flats with mounds of rubbish dumped on the grassy area. We found a note on one of the tables advising dinner was not available for foreseeable and as such the hotel would allow takeaway deliveries if people preferred. This was a pity as after several hours driving we were looking forward to some food at the hotel however weren't in the mood for a greasy takeaway. Ended up going into town for food (main high street is a hop skip and jump from the hotel) and thankfully found a lovely restaurant with one free table - The Wee Puffin (highly recommended). Returned to the hotel to be greeted by two dogs off their leash roaming the ground floor. Might be cute to some peope however our son is highly allergic to dogs and we made the hotel aware of this before arriving. Got back to our room and the walls must be paper thin as we could hear everything from the room opposite us. On top of that the locals from the houses our room was overlooking decided it would be a good time for a garden party with lots of shouting that kept us awake for a while. The beds themselves were too soft for my liking, I felt like I was on a bouncy castle or water bed every time I turned over. Made our way downstairs for breakfast. Sadly we were in a mega rush as we had to be out the hotel for 08:45 as we had an activity booked and breakfast was from 8 til 10. Breakfast was fine albeit my scrambled eggs were very runny and gloopy. Rest of the food was nice. We rarely stay in the same hotel twice so wouldn't say we'd return to the Speyside Hotel. Price we paid didn't really match our expectations.

We had a fab stay at the speyside. The staff (the few they had were great)Amanda booked us in and explained about dinner and took us to our room. We had my mum with us so had booked a 3 bed room. We were very happy with the room which was clean spacious and comfortable. There was a plumbing issue with the roomwhich was sorted immediately. Rodney is daft as a brush. His patter sorry banter had the 3 of us in stitches. Wished we had stayed longer. Rodney, Amanda and Michelle are amazing hosts. We left feeling part of the family. They are so welcoming. It’s such a shame tonight was their last night. Good luck in your future ventures. When we are up your way we will def look you up. Whoever takes over has very big boots to fill. The hotel was very dog friendly. Our big black lab Archie loved his stay too. Wecouldnt eat in the dining room but we were more than welcome in the glass room Don’t think new guests will have as good a time as we did
