Clean, friendly reception when checking in, spacious, off street parking. Hot shower (private per dorm). 6 bed dorm. The building was nicely heated. Outdoor area with grass and 4 picnic style tables to sit at. Small amount of small kids play equip. Inside was dvds, tea coffee, magazines. Great kitchen with oven, 6 gas cookers, microwave and lots of clean dishes. Saucepans looked great to me. The beds were firm thin foam but comfy. We recommend this place.

I stopped over for one night en route north, and for this purpose the hostel was quite adequate. The facilities were good and the hostel is set in a huge, delightful garden with big trees and plenty of space either to play or sit out and enjoy good weather. This is an ideal place for groups and young people rather than older, single travellers. Warning to self-caterers - while the kitchen is in general very good, it had quite the worst frying pans I have encountered in 50 years of hostelling!

Room Tip: Some of the accommodation is in the basement which can be gloomy, even on a sunny day.

Our first time in this property, having done this annual trip for twenty years over in the Fort William area, our requirements are not to spend a lot on accommodation generally and this appeared to fit the requirements, a drying room is a must and a catering kitchen, and be warm, well it did this. on the down side there was an issue with the central heating boiler, it appeared to have a fuel leak which tainted the drying room, that said Keith the manager who is always pleasant and affable assured us that this issue would be dealt with so hopefully is a "one off" . the other comments I have would make the place better for groups, greater parking capacity and a lockable bike shed. great situation, central for town and the great outdoors.

Response from CragganOutdoors, Owner at Ardenbeg Bunkhouse
Responded 14 Nov 2016
Hi Ian....thanks for booking with us for the first time, & pleased that you've shared with others on how Ardenbeg is so well suited to active outdoors-y groups like yours. Re you other comments, as advised to you directly in my follow up email, the odour from the boiler proved to be due to a tiny leak inside it's workings (but invisible from the outside) which was found by the engineer during the annual service last week, & accordingly has been resolved & so the odour is no more. Re parking, as you experienced, but for the benefit of others reading this that may think that we have no / a small car park, there is private off-road parking for 10 or so vehicles, which for a property of 23 beds rarely proves to be insufficient. And as we're in a quiet rural town, there's also no shortage of parking on the street immediately outside. And whilst we don't have a bike 'shed' as such, there is ample space for under-cover storage of bikes at the rear of the property, well out of sight from passers-by, with again one of the benefits of being in a quiet rural town being that we've never had a guest report any issue in regards to tampering with or theft from / of their bike, nor from any bike or boat or other equipment left on roof-racks in the car park. Thanks again for booking & staying with us, & hope that as you suggested in your follow up email, we'll be seeing you all back again next year.

this is a brilliant place for groups to stay. We had both levels booked for a stag doo, we weren't sure on numbers at time of booking, but Keith was excellent in accommodating us and our everchanging group size! Everyone was very impressed with the bunkhouse itself, it has everything you could need, and is in an amazing location! The brochure for the private bus service was also very handy and I'd recommend them.

Easy to find, competitively priced bunkhouse/hostel accommodation, clean and tidy throughout with all the facilities you need. Useful having a drying room too. Keith is a really friendly bloke and showed us around then left us alone to settle in. A very relaxed set up and perfect for our needs.
