Isn't it a shame when a perfectly acceptable Hotel is let down by arrival at Reception to be greeted by one of those 'you're really rather inconvenient, Mr Customer' welcomes - it sort of sets things off to a poor start. I'd booked a Deluxe room to get a Harbour view at least - other than that, my room was...

We work in Orkney possibly once maybe twice every year. This last visit was one of the best , The place is transformed since I first visited in 2008. Very nice updated rooms , welcoming staff and great food and breakfasts. We used the bar most nights and it was great beer and ambience. We always pick the Ayre when...

I stayed in the self-catering apartments offered by the Hotel and found them to be extremely comfortable. The units are very well appointed with creature comforts in top condition. The unit was clean and clearly well kept. A definite must over Hogmanay as not much else was open in town!

We were very happy with The Ayer Hotel. Rooms in Kirkwall were limited during our stay and we didn't have an advance reservation. The room was clean, nicely appointed and we were fortunate to get a sea view. We had the buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant and it was fine.

Large group of us stayed here for a business trip. The room was excellent, the food was excellent and the staff were excellent. We were made to feel so welcome and never wanted for anything for the full stay. Can't recommend this hotel enough.

Two nights here for a work trip north. My room was clean and tho small, had everything I needed. Nice bathroom. The hotel has been refurbished so feels modern and efficient. Staff were very helpful (apart from when I asked to borrow an umbrella- none to be had). Breakfast was generous and tasty. I ate one evening in the hotel...

I stayed one night, in a room on the top floor. Not much view from the window but the room itself was clean, tidy and the bed was comfortable. The walls aren't too thick so I did hear the person next door on the phone through the night but otherwise it was a lovely stay. Breakfast was good, staff were...
