I was working in Hay last night, and popped in here for an early dinner, as it was very convenient. I've known the hotel for many years as I'm always in Hay for the literary festival. It's always been known for being a bit "tired", and that is still the case, although refurbs are currently being done. I had soup... More

We stayed at The Swan for one night as a last minute stop off having booked a superior double room online. On arrival at the hotel we realised there were significant renovation works going on and were greeted by a friendly manager who explained that our room had been recently refurbished but that there were workmen still working in nearby... We dropped into The Swan for a coffee - and nearly left before it arrived as it was so slow. We sat down in a very nice area but perhaps this was the problem as we did not see anyone for a while! When the coffee arrived it was very pleasant and enjoyable and made a pleasant stop during the... More

We stayed for a short break, and found the hotel to be helpful and very accommodating on a visit during the renovation. The generous deal could not be bettered, and the breakfast was superb in its service and. Quality of local ingredients. We can't wait to return when the refurbishment is finished.

Easy check in. Comfortable refurbished room. Lovely view across the garden. Wonderful supportive bed. Staff friendly and welcoming. Shame the bar was closed for refurbishment, but plenty of pubs nearby. Breakfast was good and filling with plenty of toast, cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt available.

We stayed at the Swan in Hay when we attended a wedding. It was very clean and the staff very helpful. We stayed in a modern room, while our friends stayed in a slightly more dated room. The overall hotel was well kept and the value was very good. A central location to explore the beautiful town with on sight... More

Lovely, friendly service and the main course was excellent. We then ordered our dessert and it all went downhill. Waited nearly half an hour for a dessert that was nothing like on the menu and tasted terrible. It was as though they had sent the waiter over to the Spar for whatever he could find. Such a shame.

Me and my gf stayed here for one night to visit Hay on Wye. The hotel is located close to one of the main roads which leads straight away to the lovely center of the village. We where welcomed by a very polite staf member from the reception at arrival. We where shown our room and informed about places to... More

The garden was the best part of this hotel - a pleasant place to sit in the evening sun. Reasonably convenient for the town. However, the rest of the hotel could do with some redecoration. And the worst thing was the bed - the mattress was extremely solid & high up - I felt like I was going to roll... More

The broad bean and pea risotto had no broad beans. It tasted like rice pudding, and was clearly made with barely defrosted frozen peas. All for the princely sum of£10.50!! The toilet in the room kept filling.
