I'm not one to normally leave a negative review but just feel that if anyone else is going to use their one and only staycation here, they should be made aware and have be made fully transparent on the food and restaurant situation, as I would have liked to have been made aware of this before booking. I went away for a few nights in the hotel for a staycation with some friends. Upon checking in, we we were pretty underwhelmed by the entrance hall and decor of the hotel in general as it advertises as a 4 star hotel which it does look like. Entrance Hall is quite sparse and furniture seems quite outdated so nowhere nice to sit and relax. The bedrooms are very basic but were still comfortable enough to sleep. The staff though very young, were very friendly and helpful and have nothing bad to say about them. Unfortunately the food is the major downfall here. Dinner the first night was fine, but the nachos to start were not great. The chilli was bland and on the menu it says it comes with smashed avocado, but unfortunately it was not fresh avocado and instead a premade one from a bottle (think the premade one you can buy in Tesco in a Old El Paso bottle). The mains was not too bad thankfully, although still not 4 star quality food.
Dessert was a Snickers ice cream sundae which was served in a battered half pint glass with tasteless vanilla ice cream and some chopped up knock off peanut bars.
Breakfast the next morning was terrible. We had ordered pancakes (which had a €4 supplement) and what came was 4 small pancakes which came from a packet again like you buy in Tesco. If the pancakes are not cooked by the chef and bought from the supermarket this needs to be advised and the supplement removed and I would probably only then serve these for children. The eggs Benedict (again with a €3 supplement) came out on 2 burnt pieces of bread, eggs hard-boiled and hollandaise sauce again not made by the chef but clearly premade from a packet. We had afternoon tea booked but we ended you cancelling this due to the quality of the food to date, and after looking at recent pictures online, the tea seemed to again be pre packaged cakes served on a cardboard stand. When we cancelled and advised this was the reason that the food for the tea seems to be pre packaged, the lovely staff member who helped us did not disagree which means we were most likely right. As dinner the first night was not too bad, we hoped it would be ok again that evening. We ordered 'medium' steaks which came out very 'well done,' and came with what was clearly freezer chips and freezer onion rings, again I would guess from the supermarket. Very disappointing as for a 4 star hotel the quality of the food should also be 4 star and everything made by the chef. After speaking to one of the lovely wait staff it seems the hotel is struggling to get a head chef which I understand can be tough at the moment. However if the quality of the food is impacted this much they really should be making people aware of this when booking to stay, as to be honest, this would deter me from coming here again.

Just finished an overnight stay with spa treatment and afternoon tea. Everything was perfect. Beds were comfy, lady in the spa was fab, all the staff couldnt do enough for us. Especially during afternoon tea, every staff member on the floor made sure we were looked after. I'll be back for sure and would recommend one of the break packages as a gift :)

On the August bank holiday last August I attended a wedding here. We stayed in a house on the grounds which was spacious for 4 adults and 2 kids.
On the night before the wedding we had some drinks in the main bar and noticed a smaller wedding going on in the main function room. Apparently that wedding ended badly with a couple of degenerates trashing the reception area overnight.
So on the morning of our wedding the staff worked very hard to have the place back in shape and my hats off to them.
Our wedding was great , meaning the staff had everything working perfectly.
Food was lovely and overall it was a great weekend.

We arrived at the hotel after doing an online check-in. We had booked the junior suite which was a decent sized room. All the windows in the room were open when we arrived and the room was quite chilly. Tried turning on the radiator and the heated towel rail. When they didn't heat up, rang reception and we were told the heating could not be turned on.
Went to the leisure centre and were told at reception when getting towels that swim hats were mandatory, so we purchased 2. There are no lockers to leave your belongings. We went in and there were about 12 people in there and none were wearing swim hats. Also the guest information said children were allowed in the pool until 7pm. We got there at 8:30 and there were children in the pool. The pool was nice and warm, the sauna was good but the steam room was closed.
We were told we needed to book the restaurant and went down at the allotted time. The bar was semi busy and the restaurant which looks like a canteen in a workplace had only one table in use. We waited 20mins for our order to be taken. When the starter came out, one of the plates had dirty fingerprints on it. The mains came out and the plate with the steak had several serviettes to hold it with as it was hot. When we took the serviettes away, they were covered in dirty grease underneath. We went to order dessert and were told we had to order it in the bar instead of the restaurant. I ordered a snickerbocker glory. It contained no bits of Snickers as the name suggests. Just some sponge equivalent with nuts, ice cream and chocolate sauce. I was very disappointed.
We had a good night's sleep and the hotel was nice and quiet. The next morning we went for breakfast. We ordered coffee and a jug of the weakest filter coffee I ever tasted was poured. I said it to them and they brought out a marginally better coffee which I couldn't drink as it was not nice. Breakfast was not impressive or enticing.
We checked out and unlike many hotels, no one bothered to ask us if everything was ok or if we had an enjoyable stay. The staff were always polite.
I can't really recommend the hotel as there are so many superior hotels to stay in.

Stayed here for one night, it was very cold from the minute we arrived into the hotel, heating in room didn't work and toilet door didn't close in the room. When we arrived there was a woman standing in reception given out about been over charged. Rooms were very noisy as we could hear kids running up and down the corridor.

Breakfast was disappointing, hotel seemed over staffed and tripping over each other but not well trained it would seem. Staff all friendly enough but not restaurant trained.

Breakfast items were very limited, but the menu on the tables would make you think otherwise. No fresh pasteries or fruit available. Coffee was out of a machine and self servicd and not great at all. Hit food was served at the counter by a staff member but everything was a wait as the chef was cooking bit by bit, so the eggs and sauages were arriving on different plates which was very silly.

Dinner in the restaurant was also poorly run, again loads of staff tripping over each other, when we entered it wasn't busy, it took ages for someone to come take our order, food was over priced for what we got, drinks arrived out in the wrong glasses. The family sat beside us did nothing but give out about the terrible service, which was disappointing. Furniture seemed very dated and staff need to be trained on our to run a restaurant.

Overall I don't think this should have a 4 star rating for a hotel based on my views above.

such a disappointing visit, lots of servers to be seen but none actually attending to guests all young and in need of some training for working in hospitality. Lipstick stains on the four glasses which came to table. To be honest it was too much hard work to try to attract someone's attention to complain, food ridiculously bland and expensive for what we got. Swimming pool was absolutely disgusting, it was foggy and there were pieces of dirt in it. Don't recommend Ballyk, keep your money and go elsewhere.

From the time we all arrived on Thursday May 23rd to Saturday 25th we all had the most amazing time. Everything that we needed was catered for, and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff, I must mention Melanie the manager and the wedding planner were superb. The rooms were very comfortable and so clean. The bedding and pillows were crisp white and it was like sleeping on a cloud. The bathrooms were absolutely spotless which is a credit to the ladies who work tirelessly making sure the guests have a wonderful stay. I must mention the chefs and all the kitchen team who work like a well oiled machine to produce the top quality food we were treated to during our stay. All the waiting staff for their friendly manner and attention to detail, thank you all. So I would highly recommend staying here. You will not be disappointed. Thank you all from Carol o Kane . Mother of one of the brides.

Stopped off for lunch and pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food and service. The roast beef was cooked to perfection as was the chicken and the vegetables were perfect. This is now on my list of regular places. Thank you Ballykisteen & staff especially Shuana who took great care of us.

went just to use the pool and the place is just so dirty, how they have that many stars is completely beyond me. when you walk into the changing rooms you walk into darkness as the bulb is flickering, was there in October and same bulb was flickering. everything is just wrecked with rust which just doesnt happen in other hotels. the shower curtains cant be pulled across properly because of getting caught on the rust. the temperature of the pool was way way too cold and a lady in the pool said it has been like this for 3 days yet I was not made aware of it. i obviously would not have brought a child into a pool that could have made him sick because of how cold it was. my poor child was just so cold we had to get out of the pool after just 10 mins..... the first thing we could do after lockdown and this was it. I went into the steamroom, no steam and no notice to advise the room was broken. the jacuzzi then was the extreme, really really hot. this hotel badly needs to be looked at and where it is not safe they should close.

I attended a wedding recently. I was shocked that we were asked to pay upfront when checking in. The bedroom was comfortable but a little stuffy. The bar staff were pleasant and the food was good. The wedding meal was nice. However, the Hor dourves were really appalling. The 'hot' breakfast buffet was cold both mornings. As far as I observed, the Bride and Groom were badly let down by the hotel on the day. They were refused access to the golf course for photos despite this being a key reason for choosing this venue. Bride, Groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen were given nothing to eat before the wedding meal. The hotel didn't turn on the a/c during the meal and when we opened the side doors to let some air in were told to close them in case some birds few in. The couple were never asked to cut the wedding cake and it was just taken away and served after dessert. While children are welcome it is not suitable if you need your children entertained/minded. Overall I would have reservations recommending this venue for wedding or perhaps even an overnight.

I have stayed in this hotel once per year now for several years and generally it is very good. I would not really have any hesitation in going back. I honestly cannot remember the details so I would think it was just a minor blip and I will be back again next November. Enjoy the occasion and the wedding
