We were staying at another hotel in Scarborough and were desperately looking for somewhere nice to eat when we came upon the Palm Court. They had an excellent offer of a three course meal for two people with a bottle of wine for £58. We were not sure what to expect but it was so good we went on a second night during our stay. It was an excellent deal, initially we were given a selection of breads with oil & balsamic vinegar, there was a lovely choice of good quality and tasty starters, mains and desserts and a bottle of very palatable French wine. All of this is served in a lovely restaurant with friendly professional service. After dinner you can have coffee in the most comfortable lounge. A nice experience and excellent value, would definitely go again.

This is the third time my wife and I have stayed here and really enjoyed our stay once again. This time we splashed out for the Glaisdale suite and couldn't of been happier. It is a lovely room. The separate lounge is lovely as was the King Size bed. The bath was nice and deep with plenty of room for two ;) I can see that some people might not "get" the Palm Court. But if you want a little bit of class then this is the place to go. But if you want a faceless corporate hotel with plenty of beige walls and 100s of identical rooms, then go elsewhere. The staff were as perfect as ever. Helpful and friendly and very good at playing the piano. We love the classy dining room. It brings something special to the meals and the food was of a high quality as always. The only really

Dear BryanH1701, A big thank you for your very positive comments regarding your experience here last week at the Hotel. I do apologise however for the pool which did suffer an issue with the water heating system. Its always nice to hear good comments from both new guests but also repeat customers who look forward to returning and whose expectations are met consistently. On behalf of all staff we look forward to seeing you once again at the Palm Court . Kind regards Mr Jay Clements General Manager

I will start off with the positives. The staff are, in general, very pleasant and helpful. The food in the restaurant and lounge is well cooked and presented. Finally the location, for the town centre, is very good. On the negative side the rooms are quite small with old fashioned, small, double beds. The plumbing has seen better days (we had to change rooms due to a leaking toilet and friends had a problem with the plumbing in their room which resulted in change of room). On the final day the kitchen flooded! This problem with the plumbing also seemed to affect the heating as the hotel seemed to fluctuate between cold and hot at odd times during the day/night. The windows in the rooms were old and loose in their frames which resulted in them letting the cold in and on one

Dear Guest, Thank you for your considered review in relation to your stay with us here at the Palm Court. Firstly thank you for your positive comments. However I do apologise that we did not exceed your expectations. After looking once again at your booking I feel it important to clarify a few of your points. Our swimming pool is enclosed with a water temperature of 28 degrees coupled with an air temperature of 29 degrees which we feel is conducive to an indoor swimming pool. Secondly in regards to your rate. You arrived with your wife who was attending a 5 day residential conference. Her rate although separate from yours was a 24hour delegate rate. Lunch, unlimited tea & coffee, dinner within the restaurant not being least of these encompassed all that we offer to our corporate guests. Your charge as a secondary guest to the room was initially agreed at booking and during your pre authorisation of your card during check. The very competitive rate included Dinner, breakfast and a small supplement for double occupancy of the room. As I can see being a seasoned traveller I am sure you will agree that as many other hotels we do parity rates in relation to rooms on offer and also to number of guests who stay. The rate you quote was from a third party website which relates to a smaller room which I feel misrepresents that situation stated. May I thank you for your feedback and do hope that you would consider staying with us in the future. Yours sincerely Mr Jay Clements General Manager

My husband and I stayed here for one night in order to attend the annual Dance Festival at the Spa complex When we arrived we ordered sandwiches and hot drinks (£16+) so a bit expensive, but very nice, and staff really welcoming The reception desk is very small but check in was speedy and efficient and the receptionist was very helpful with directions to the Spa Our first disappointment came when we went to the room which was on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel. The decoration was a bit tired and the paintwork could stand some updating. The bed was small , hard and uncomfortable, but I have to compliment the housekeeper who responded very quickly to our request for a blanket on the bed - which we definitely needed as the room was quite cold during the night. Added to all

This was our first visit to this hotel. The communal areas and the Restaurant are very very good. The food was excellent, couldn't fault it. The staff were very friendly. Our room (superior) was spacious with a spacious bathroom. The decor is a little tired in the room but it was very clean with loads of drawer space. Nice and quiet. The bed wasn't the most comfortable I have ever slept in but it was OK. Any requests that we made were accommodated with a smile. One of the better hotels in Scarborough I think.

Stayed here midweek and was really disappointed. We checked in as a small group (5) and were asked if we would like dinner in the hotel. After a long day of travelling not going out to eat seemed like a good idea. Which it might have been if they had stocked the kitchen. Four of the five of us had to change starters as the wood pigeon was off the menu. With only 5 choices, this limited options especially with a few food intolerances. Eventually went for the terrine which was nice but my friends egg was raw with it. Had the pork as a main course and it was OK with the exception of the turnip which was just wrong. My friends were OK with their meals but did send back to restaurant for additional bread as there isn't a lot on the plate! With a wheat intolerance puddings were

We were a party of over 30 and were given first class treatment. The food was excellent, service very good and staff really friendly. Some of the rooms were smallish but facilities were good and as the organiser I had no complaints. Adriana the reception manager went out of her way to be helpful even down to letting our party use their large function room on first floor to host our pre-dinner drinks including using our own drink and snacks, all without any charge made. The cost per couple for the weekend was a little higher than we have paid before but the free parking and convenience to the conference centre plus the excellent food and service was worth the extra!

This was our third visit as a group attending a conference. All the staff are friendly and helpful and organisation and speed of serving dinner to a large party in the restaurant was really excellent. The lounge is spacious and comfortable, in bedrooms and public areas there is a high standard of cleanliness.

This hotel has appeared to have had some awards for food and service. WHEN AND WHY ? I will be contacting the hotel and the AA with my views. A subsequent review may be made here. There are definite highs and lows at this hotel. Highs : most staff are really friendly and helpful. Great location for the town. Bar and restaurant areas well equipped and refurbished to good standard. Outside looks really appealing. Underground car park close to hotel, free if there are spaces. Neutral : There is a pool, but limited people allowed in the pool with many restrictions, we were told - so I never saw anyone in the pool ! Lows - rooms, and I saw a few, as a number of our friends were staying, some small rooms, only small double beds and definitely only 2 star plus. Front rooms were noisy

Dear Guest, First of all thank you for your expected comments. I do feel it very important to clarify some of your comments and the vitriolic manner in which you have posted them. It is just a shame that you feel it necessary only to publish your feedback rather than giving the Hotel an opportunity to rectify any issues during your stay. For other readers the clarification needed is that the Hotel caters for a wide variety of dietary needs and continues to cater for guests who are susceptible to wide ranging allergens. In relation to your dietary requirements I personally spoke to you during service on the Friday evening whereby it was brought to my attention that “you have an allergy to nuts”. Soon after discussing the matter directly with you this was retracted by yourself by stating that this was not the case and it was a personal choice that you do not enjoy nuts. On your second evening of dining with us your order was taken by my Duty Manager who asked you once again if there was any allergies that you wish for us to cater for. Although stated on the menu we felt it necessary to ask you directly if there was anything “off the menu” that Chef could prepare. During your dessert you made it known you were allergic to chocolate which again after a brief discussion this was a fabrication. Having been personally approached by 6 of your fellow delegates including the organiser of the group it seems that this does seem to happen in other establishments whereby unfortunately it disrupts other guests experiences. Your fellow guests seemed to apologise for your behaviour one even leaving your table during your meal. Having stated that you were allergic to dairy, nuts and cheese it seems that you continued to dine consuming homemade chocolate petit fours and drink full fat milk within your after dinner coffee. I feel it hugely exaggerates your comments of the food making you ill and spoiling your evening. Whilst speaking to your groups organiser after the Saturday meal the Hotel received nothing but praise from him personally, other members also with a very healthy gratuity for the staff. Comments purely directed by myself were really to ascertain if there were any acute or severe allergies that the Hotel should be made aware of, and for allergies so severe guests usually do inform us at point of booking or indeed before placing an order. New European legislation effective from December 2014 called the Food Information for Consumers Regulation I am sure will assist you in future dining. And as a restaurant with an AA rosette we do fall into the top 10% of restaurants within the country which outside of service and ambience will only arise from a comprehensive knowledge of taste, food preparation and creativity. In relation to your comments of your room I cannot concur with your observations especially after all corridors throughout the Hotel received a comprehensive refurbishment less than 12 months ago. Having stated that you had a large front facing room I cannot understand the “lack of space to hang anything.” Unfortunately your comments were not constructive and I feel vastly exaggerated, abusive and misrepresent a hugely successful weekend for your fellow Rotarians. I do apologise however that we did not exceed your expectations and hope future stays in other Scarborough Hotels can cater for your requirements. Yours sincerely, Mr Jay Clements General Manager
