Yet another gently fading hotel with the tiredness beginning to show. Gutters and rhone pipes blocked and rain spraying down below, the drive with potholes. Mind you, the rooms were spotless and no complaints on that score - nor with the very friendly, cheerful, efficient owner's wife. And did she work ? She certainly did. Her husband whom a hotel...

We stayed two nights in this hotel, having come up to Ballater to visit family, and with our young daughter now two, tried out a larger room. This beautifully decorated room comfortably fit not only our king size bed (which gave me the best sleep I've had in months - quite something with a toddler sleeping in the same room...

The weather on the way to Ballater was terrible-rain, sleet and finally snow-but the welcome was warm, the fireside cozy and the dog friendly. We had booked a room (Room 1) with a view of the mountains and were not disappointed--when we could see them. Our host/owner was always around and ready to answer any need, provide a snack, recommend...

We really enjoyed our stay at Darroch Learg with amazing food and very welcoming staff however we felt the accommodation was massively overpriced for what you got. The room are very dated, cold with a tv that didn't really work. My advise would be to stay at the craigendarroch which at least you have access to leisure facilities and more...

We stayed at the Darroch Learg on a one night dinner, bed and breakfast arrangement. We received an upgrade to a premier room with an outstanding view so I felt that the £230 we paid represented good value. We love quality small country house hotels in beautiful locations and this one certainly hit the mark. I particularly loved the log...

I have returned with my husband, and now our baby daughter, to this hotel many times, and each time, I return feeling happy. It is not perfect - our bathroom needed a bit of T&C - but the owners (the Franks) care, and that shows in everything they do. The food is excellent, and the wine list is one of...

We got married in Ballater in November 2008, and stayed for a night in the Darroch Learg the night after our Wedding. It was fantastic, the rooms were luxurious, the staff were friendly, the Breakfast was amazing! The entire Hotel had a wonderful homely feel, it was welcoming in every way possible! The owners even gave us two beautiful Champagne...

The hotel claims to serve award winning food and wine. It certainly did not merit any awards following our visit. Food was very dissapointing and vastly over priced. Service was also very disapointing. The fact that the propriator did not ask if we had enjoyed our stay spoke volumes. It was as tho she was ashammed of her own performance,...

Have stayed many times and cannot wait to return. There are few hotels which offer such a relaxing informal stay and yet score so highly on food and service. One of the most ellusive things to find these days is that"off-switch"...here i (and many others )have found it.Your hosts are attentive and "nice people" and run a great hotel. One of the really...

The Darroch Learg has been on my list of places to try for some years, so we were delighted to finally get an opportunity to be in the area and booked a two night stay. We were not disappointed with the food and our room was comfortable and looked to have been recently upgraded. The breakfast was also excellent and...
