Room had a large bed, desk, chairs, tea and coffee making facilities and a large en-suite shower room. Views in 3 directions over the grounds. It's a compact hotel, in a very peaceful location yet only minutes from Carlisle. Food, especially dinner, is excellent. The building itself is magnificent, with a long and distinguished history. Well worth reading the notes...

The building is a Grade 2* listed and is simply fabulous, the staff were superb, if a little rushed due to their low numbers. The food was very good on the first night but only adequate on the second night. However it lacked any real ambiance, bearing in mind that I stayed on a Thursday and Friday evening, there were...

We love the room, we loved the grounds, but didn't feel the service quite hit the spot. The breakfast until 9 is ludicrous and reminiscent of a Bill Bailey comedy routine. Made worse by the buffet being cleared while we were still eating. Not sure who this is run for as I don't think it was me, the customer. Still...

Booked for a wedding. Brought in a live band. The acoustics at the venue cut out over 90 decibels the equivalent of a dishwasher, tripping the power. Manager totally unhelpful. This place is entirely unsuitable for live music. Stay away.

I stayed here for one night on a business trip and I am going to come back with the wife. The location is quiet well set back from the road and is well signposted. Check in was easy and the receptionist was very welcoming. The room was large and warm. Boutique style decorated with a large leather sofa and large...

The building is wonderful and the initial impression of our room was good, but that is where it stopped. One thing that you should unaware of is that someone else was in the room the night before. This was dispelled when we saw that the bin had not been emptied. There was a sheet of glass on the table top:...

First impressions - wow! Lovely drive up to the entrance and plenty of parking. Checked in at 20.25 the lady promptly advised that room service closed 5mins later so just enough time to order whilst at reception, tray charge £10. I ordered a burger and a bottle of still water limited for choice only to keep the costs down with...

We only stayed one night but will definitely return. They went above and beyond to accommodate our very unusual request to park our car for four days while we went off and cycled the Scottish leg of RAB before returning to spend a night, collect our car and continue home. Our trip from John O'Groats back to Dalston hall for...
