We chose the Barcelo Illetas Albatros due to this experience and they didn't disappoint. Due to the low season, there were some small hiccups with the service we received but it was a comfortable stay after all.
Here is a detailed evaluation of specifics:
Welcome: We arrived around 8 p.m. and we were welcomed at the reception. The reception staff usually stays at the back and come out if you are waiting for service but overall they are quick and welcoming. There was no mention of My Barcelo benefits which made us think that the hotel is not paying attention to it at all. (e.g., there was no free water in the room).
The room: The bed is really really comfortable. I would want that bed in my apartment. The room is also very clean with nice high quality towels. The mini bar is filled up but there was no mention of the pricing apart from the QR code. I thought the sweets were free and ate before I realised the pricing. Also the curtains in the room were a bit dirty and needs to be changed a bit more often.
There were some issues regarding the room though. There was a garlic/toilet mixed smell coming from the bathroom after our 2nd night. The ventilation in the room wasn't great and the A/C was only
heating and not cooling (due to winter season I guess). So we requested a room change.
The hotel interiors: Really clean everywhere you go. It offers everything you would need on a city break or even a summer holiday (however we were there in winter season and couldn't use the outdoor pool or private beach). The private beach area could use some care since it is quite dangerous to walk around there with slippery rocks and stuff.
Restaurant: The food is good and fresh. They have omelettes freshly made for you in the mornings and grills in the evenings. The salad buffet is a bit limited and the food gets redundant after 4 days+nights eating there but overall happy with the friendly service and healthy good quality food.
Location: We rented a car to see around the island so the location wasn't a concern. But there isn't much to do if you don't have a car and it is winter season. The bus service to palma is quite frequent though. The parking is not free at the hotel but the nearby free car park just worked great if you don't mind climbing up the stairs from there to the hotel.
Overall: Had a good stay. There are some minor hick-ups but we felt safe & clean
With regards to covid, everyone complied with mask wearing, social distancing and sanitising. Opposite the hotel you can get a covid test at the medical centre but they also have the option of coming into the hotel too.
The breakfast buffet is quite extensive with options for everyone. We loved sitting on the terrace overlooking the sea whilst eating our breakfast. It was such a peaceful stay without children which made it that extra bit relaxing
Would 100% recommend staying here!
The hotel staff were all very friendly and could not do enough to make us feel welcome. The rooms were decorated to a high standard and were light and airy. The beds were possibly the most comfortable we have slept on in any hotel we have stayed at.
The entire hotel was spotlessly clean, and wherever you turned you were always met by someone cleaning wether it be mopping the floors, or cleaning the toilets to the man we bumped into polishing the lifts at 9 o'clock in the evening.
We ate in the buffet restaurant on our first night and in the poolside restaurant during the day. The food was well presented and there was a good selection to choose from. Breakfast was the normal buffet style selection you would expect with plenty of choice available.
The pool area does get busy early reserving sun lounges is strongly discouraged and we did witness the life guard removing towels from loungers which were not in current use to allow others to use them. There are sun terraces on the rocks and a small pebble cove, which is billed as private to the hotel, however we did notice a few locals on a couple of occassions, they however kept themselves to themselves and did not disturb hotel guests.
There is a small spa area below the pool, which we found to be a great way of cooling off. It has a hot tub, small pool and sauna and steam room all of which were relatively empty most of the time. There is also the opportunity to have a variety of treatments from a simple massage to head and neck reflexology.
All in all we had a wonderful 10 night stayed and it certainly recharged the batteries working for the NHS it was just the tonic we needed after a couple of very challenging years and would strongly consider returning for another visit.
The individual food at lunch is lovely.
The staff are first class, the pool is salt, ie less chlorine and delightful, we swam in the sea twice a day and it was perfect - appeared very clean.
There’s free Cava at breakfast and Haribo to go with your ice cream at dinner. Perfect. If you work at choosing your food, it’s lovely and the house white and rose wine is more than adequate. The beds are firm, rooms are very clean and while some people moan about the wash basin being ‘in the bedroom’, I think the bedroom design, lighting, opaque shower wall etc are all cleverly thought out.
The bus stop is directly outside and getting to and from Palma, and especially the airport was easy and cheap - bus A1 for 5 euros followed by bus 4 for 2 euros. I reckon the best rooms are any floor from 01 to 04, ie full sea view. So 101 to 104, or 201 to 204 etc. We were in 206 which was ‘partial view’ and suited us. Very relaxing stay and would go again.
The hotel itself has, as of July 2021, a buffet restaurant for breakfast (and dinner if booked) and a bar near the pool for drinks and snacks. This was fine for us as we were keen to explore the local areas in the evening.
We booked a superior room, which is the basic room, and only realised after booking that not all of them come with a balcony. We emailed the hotel to request a room with a balcony, and was pleased that they managed to accommodate this request when we checked in.
I must say that all the staff in the hotel were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
There is a fairly small pool with plenty of sun loungers for the number of guests, plus a private small beach. The only thing that would make it better is more parasols please - there were not enough to go around.
Sadly the spa was closed, and the gym you had to book by appointment, which we didn’t find very convenient.
The hotel is in a good location - a short walk to Illetes in one direction and Cala Major in the other, both of which have a good selection of restaurants to choose from. Port Cala Nova is a short walk away and offers watersports, plus also has two exceptional restaurants.
Palma is a 20 minute taxi ride away.
Overall we would definitely stay here again - the hotel and location were perfect for our needs.
I would definitely go back to this Hotel.
OK so we've been to the Barcelo hotel in Costa Adeje Tenerife 3 times in the past year so you get a bit spoilt although on the latest trip their food had nose-dived.
Next time we're going room only.
OK Barcelo Illetas Majorca.
Great view, staff trying really hard but the food was luke-warm at best and the rooms are very small. Went in February and unfortunately most of the local restaurants were closed as it's off season, shame that, had to put up with the hotel offering of luke-warm dinner.
Wouldn't go back again.
The hotel facilities are lovely and clean and the staff are super helpful and friendly. We booked bed and breakfast, there was a variety of choices every morning that did not disappoint. The pool and surrounding areas were beautiful, with fantastic views and plenty of sunbeds, they also provided clean pool towels daily, which was a nice touch. There are a few small cove beaches near by too.
The area is quiet, there are a few restaurants within walking distance but busses are cheap and regular so you can visit nearby villages. We went to Puerto Portals, Cala Major, into Palma city and took a trip to soller. The location was perfect for us, we wanted quiet and relaxing but also the option for more lively with sightseeing, all which we easily achieved.
I would definitely come back to this hotel.
"Ask for a sea view junior suite on a higher floor (we had 505 on 5th floor). Corner suites are the most spacious, others face the car park."Read full review
