We stayed in Bergen for 5 days and chose this hotel to be our base. It turned out to be a very good choice and hence the review below. First of all the location is in Bryggen which is possibly one of the nicest areas. Although hotel car parking is limited there are several garages close by. The flybussen from the airport also stops right next to the hotel and restaurants and bars are within walking distance. Breakfast, afternoon waffles and a light dinner meal were offered in the package and the food quality was very good. Reception take the time to help out with queries rather than referring you to websites. Also anything requested (extra towels, bulb replacement, safe digital display went crazy etc) was always dealt with in a very timely manner. If I had to be a little finicky maybe the room needed to be a little larger but on the whole all facilities worked fine and even the toiletries were luxury quality. So a well deserved review for what was a nice experience.…
Great location but I recommend that you walk a block for a decent hotel. Clarion has a mediocre reputation and this hotel is working hard to make sure there is no upward movement. Tiny rooms decorated in 1950 furniture. 2 inch mattress on top of box spring. “We don’t do laundry on weekends “. Really? Are you a hotel by any chance. “Yes, we know that CNN is listed on the tv but we do not pay for it”. Furniture is nicked. Drapes are awful. There are many good choices in this super city. Go elsewhere!
We stayed for two days with the family in the hotel at the end of a roundtrip through the fjord region. The hotel is situated next to Vaagen and Brygge and in walking distance to the city center. The area is quiet, not much traffic there. We found the hotel a comfortable place to stay with decent rooms. At the same time we also thought there wasn‘t anything outstanding and we recommend therefore to compare it mainly on the rates you get in comparison with other similar quality places. Rooms, equipment, breakfast all good average. Service at the reception a bit lame and not particularly eager to help. The hotel does not have its own parking places, but the nearby Bergen parking garage can be used for roughly 300NOK per day.
To the good: excellent location right on the harbor, friendly staff, nice breakfast. Watch for: Tiny and poorly lit bathroom (even with a deluxe room), and a terrible over-soft bed which provided no support at all. Would probably look for another space on the waterfront if I went back to Bergen.
Great location, staff and service. The breakfast was great and they offered dinner as well. We ate out for dinner to experience the local restaurants, but the meals hotel provided look good. The location was in walking distance to everything located in the city center. Recommend getting the key from the reception and viewing the city from the top of the hotel tower from the 6th floor it has great 360 views of the city.
The historic building has some quirks but they were more than made up for by the very friendly staff. For example, one of our family rooms had a key card door opener that was faulty, so a staff member had to always open their door. Also, the very deep bathtub / shower may be hard for some people to safely step into, but we found the grab bars made this ok. The breakfast, mid afternoon waffles, and dinner were all good. The dinner had plenty of choices of a soup, salad fixings, bread, so this was nice on a rainy night when we decided not to venture out to dinner. The hotel is very attractive with an opulent feel, and the location, right at a corner of the Bryggen area, can’t be beat. On a rainy afternoon we could just go a few steps across the square th a good Museum of the Bryggen, which was very interesting. Our three boys ages 11 to 14 enjoyed this museum.…
The hotel is in a prime location of Bergen, right in the Bryggen area. Service in the hotel is great - staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was good and there were complementary waffles in the afternoon (you make them yourself), which was a nice touch. There was also a free light dinner buffet (consisting of a couple of hot dishes, salad and soup). The dinner buffet was surprisingly generous I thought and was actually a viable alternative to going out for a meal. The hotel's tower (ask reception for a key) provides spectacular views across the area. Our room was a bit cramped however - the size itself was ok but there was too much large furniture for the size of the room so there was hardly any space for our luggage. The bed was large and comfortable though. There was a kettle and tea & coffee (not a given in Norway) but there was no convenient place to plug in the kettle. The bathroom door was a sliding glass door and only partially opaque allowing very little privacy. Great hotel but the room had some flaws.…
Stayed at the hotel last week and the experience was very enjoyable. Suzanne, Christine and Amelia were all great at their job. They helped me with directions, information and did their best to help me with an issue I had with a mail being delivered. They are a valuable asset to the hotel The hotel is conveniently located and the rooms-elevator/lift and restaurant were very nice. The breakfast was very good. However I wish the website would mention the airport bus. It asks us to take the tram-streetcar but I wonder if the bus is a better option. We also went up to the tower at the top and had a nice view of the harbor and city. I definitely recommend this hotel.
This hotel has a great location by the harbour. Our upgraded hotel room was excellent. The meals provided (breakfast, afternoon snack & dinner) were wonderfully prepared, with fantastic service from staff Adel & Jean. They were friendly & helpful. The hotel receptionists were prompt & attentive too. We enjoyed this wonderful hotel stay.
I was very happy with my stay at this hotel. Despite being a busy hotel in a busy area, my room was completely silent at night, and the bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel must be one of the best and most convenient in Bergen, and the all round panoramic view from the tower (to which one can request access at reception) is amazing. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, and it was also nice to have both afternoon waffles and evening supper included. This is definitely one of the nicest “city” hotels I have stayed in.
