The breakfast was excellent and included a good selection of vegetarian options (and even a fair selection of vegan options). For what was called a "smaller double room," I thought that it was quite a good size. I have stayed at other somewhat more expensive hotels in Trondheim and did not feel this was any worse. Recommended.
The Hotel has its advantages. It is near the cathedral and reported to be close to the train station. We did need a taxi from the hurtigruten terminal. About $20 usd. But its lobby is very cramped so it was a relief when we got into our room early. But our room on the sixth floor was quite strange. It was long and narrow with the twin beds arranged head to head. The room was probably 6 feet wide. There was one window with a view of the roof tops. We were only there one night so it was okay, but the room was not conducive to spending time together. There was a hot water kettle and a small refrigerator which would be useful for longer stays. Caution. There are three thon branded hotels in trondheim. Make sure you specify this one to avoid confusion. Our friends waited for us at the wrong one.…
we stayed in this hotel just one night between a cruise on the fjord and a train journey to Oslo. We took a taxi from the harbour when we arrived , but discovered that the hotel was a comfortable walking distance from the station when we left. It is also within walking distance of the city centre. The room was comfortable, we appreciated the tea making facility and the fridge, There were two chairs one an armchair and a comfortable bed, The breakfast was very good. There was a psychedelic carpet between the room and the lift but otherwise the decor was attractive,
More than happy to stay there. Good service, tasty breakfast, quiet for rest. Excellent view. Friendly staff, tidy, comfortable. Well placed for conference and business travel. Very happy with kitchen and food.
There are 3 Thon Hotels in Trondheim and I chose this one as it was 200kr cheaper that the other ones. I soon found out why. It was so hot in the room that I could not sleep. I think I managed about 3 hours. Had the window open (it opens about 3 inches) which did not help. The next night I asked if it was possible to transfer to another Thon Hotel that a colleague was staying at but this was not possible. He said he slept great as there was central ventilation system. The following night was the same story, even with the fan. I was SO tired when I left the Hotel that I fell asleep on the plane, which I never ever do. The girl at reception said that it was an old building so it gets warm. The weather at the time was nice - around 18 degrees during the day and a little colder at night. I would suggest chosing another Thon Hotel (the other one just around the corner was the one a colleague stayed at). The extra money is worth it if you want a good nights sleep. I am sure it is ok in the winter months, but I would not recommend staying here from May to September. The breakfast was ok (the bacon was super hard and not eatable) and staff friendly. I stay at Thon hotels frequently, but this was, unfortunately, not a good experience. Trondheim is a nice city and the people are friendly. I would recommend a trip down to Solsiden where there are restaurants and bars. The old bridge is also cool to see the canal from (good for pics).…
Stayed a couple of nights at Thon Trondheim and came away very disappointed. Having stayed in 4 different Thon hotels, this was probably the bottom of the barrel. Really a barebones basic hotel that was very tired. First room I was assigned had the most weird design. Felt essentially like a extended janitors closet with 2 beds back to back. TV didn't work either, so thankfully got switched to another room. Still room was very bare and not as clean. No amenities and even shower was not good. Breakfast was also likewise scaled down and breakfast staff were barely to be seen. Not helpful. Overall the staff just seemed very cold and wasnt a pleasant stay for sure.
Nice spacious room, comfortable bed. Coffee/tea making facilities in the room. Clean. Great breakfast. Lots of choice and fresh food. Friendly and helpful staff. Very centrally located. Minutes away from Nidaros Cathedral. Approximately 20 minute walk from the central railway station
The hotel is located only few meters from the town square. Nice and clean room, friendly serviceminded staff and delicious breakfast that satisfy your every expectations to this important meal of the day - that fill you with the energy you need to enjoy the towns many sites and attractions.
Beware!!! There are thieves at the Thon Hotel Trondheim. My friend and I stayed the night there on October 30, 2019. We checked out the next morning at 10:30, and were offered to leave our bags in their “baggage room.” This room is a locked room just off of the lobby. Easy for the staff to see the comings and goings. We spent the day in Trondheim and upon our return, around 17:00, we asked to have the door opened to the baggage room. To our shock, our bags were done. Our two bags and another oversized duffel bag of a Norwegian man who was there to retrieve his. I didn’t panic at first, mostly because ALL of my belongings were in that bag, I was literally left with the clothes on my back. So I didn’t let my mind go there. I figured the staff had moved them to clean or something, after all, it was a secure room. We went out to tell the clerk, who was the same guy all three of us had left the bags with that morning to ask him where our bags were. He went in the room himself, looked around and unapologetically told us that they must have been stolen and we should probably call the police. What!???? Stolen???? We obviously had several follow up questions, the main one being “how on earth did this happen??” He said that he wasn’t sure, but regardless, they weren’t responsible for the stolen luggage because we “should have never left our bags in there.” We became very defensive to this victim shaming. We lost all our clothes, money, passports, electronics, and he was so nonchalant about the whole thing. This led me immediately to believe that this wasn’t the first time this had happened! We then had to take ourselves across town to the police station because they wouldn’t offer us a taxi. They new we were trying to catch a flight to Bergen as well and this was just so incredibly stressful. In the event that we missed our flight, we weren’t offered a room, a refund for what we had already paid for the previous night...I mean NOTHING! We were literally met with “well, now you’ve learned a lesson- don’t leave your belongings in our care.” I asked him to look at the cameras, he claimed not to have cameras. After speaking to the manager the following day, we found out that they do indeed have cameras, but weren’t going to be looking at them. I couldn’t believe my ears. It was extraordinarily suspicious. Why wouldn’t they also want to know who was in their hotel and stealing?? But they weren’t at all interested. Incompetent and dishonest. I would strongly urge everyone not to choose this hotel for the main fact that incompetent people run it/work there. They take no responsibility whatsoever for their clients and certainly not our belongings. The fact how they don’t know how the thieves got in is especially concerning seeing how it’s a locked door. The only person with access is the front desk worker. Yet they didn’t “see anything.” Scary stuff. You have been warned!…
I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. Yes the bathroom has a strange configuration (you actually can’t sit in the loo properly, you sort of have o be side on!) but the shower was divine and the room was light, bright and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful as well. Location was fantastic. Highly recommended.
