We have been traveling through Norway for the past 2 weeks and have stayed exclusively in Clarion hotels which on the whole have been very good. This one is well below standard. Firstly the lighting in the room is almost non existent. Secondly there is no tea or coffee - not even a kettle, cups etc - just nothing! Thirdly the furniture is very old and worn and appears quite grubby. Even a rip in the upholstery! Not a great experience.
The hotel is located close to the central train station and nearby attractions in Trondheim. An easy walk to points of interest. The hotel rooms were neat, very clean and comfortable. The staff at the desk was very polite and helpful with reservations for taxis. A nice afternoon buffet for those staying at the hotel with that plan included in some rooms, did not apply to our group of six.
Hotel build in 87, and without midlife upgrade, it was poor quality. Good place in city, and not value for money, with other better alternatives nearby. With new owner it must be a serious upgrade in the future
I spent such a wonderful time in the Clarion in Copenhagen I was really looking forward to my five days here. I booked out within minutes of arriving and forfeited my Booking .com monies to find a hotel that was clean and didn't make me feel like I was staying in a doss house. The room was grimy, stuffy with broken furniture and the place stunk of neglect. It is simply a disgrace. Over rpiced and garbage.
A somewhat strange hotel. Rooms are comfortable and have lovely pillows which I appreciated. However rooms that face outward on the road (as opposed toward the atrium) have no means of temperature control. The window only slightly opens and in warm whether they are impossibly hot despite being given two fans. The atrium facing rooms have air con but you cannot open the windows. Breakfast is average, probably the worst we experienced on our trip. They provide evening meal free but there is no choice. We had one which was ok but couldn’t fancy the second night. The rooms do not have a hairdryer and there is none available. There is a laundry facility free of charge which is great when travelling.
Travelling around Norway by train, we looked for hotels near the stations, and found that by registering as a member of Clarion group, we could benefit from discounted stays. We especially liked the fact that, as well as breakfast, the evening meal and afternoon tea were included. Breakfast was an amazing spread, and the evening meal was good as well. Great staff, comfortable bed, quiet room, 7 mins walk from the station - perfect!
Grand Hotel Olav lives up to the best with an annual tradition where we use the hotel to celebrate our wedding day with lunch and evening buffet. My wife and I spend the night and have the benefit of inviting friends to the evening buffet. Very good service and arrangement for a reasonable price. Very good personal service from all of the staff
We stayed in a comfortable de Luxe room at upper floor with a beautiful view but unfortunately there was a terrible noise from the elevators eventhough there was another room beteeen ours and the elevators (!). We complained at the reception, but they could not help us, as all other de Luxe rooms were booked. Our friends were satisfied with their room which was away from the elevators.
Fantastic nice hotel right in the center of Trondheim. Nice atmosphere, fantastic good breakfast with a large selection, free coffee 24 hours, in addition there were free cakes for the coffee, and both hot and cold supper. Never ever got better food in a Norwegian hotel. Nice and attentive staff. The superior room was huge with hallway, wardrobe and fridge, good beds and mattresses, and Rituals products in the bathroom. We'll be back. Dice roll 10!
I stayed here for a few nights for work in January right after new years and Hotel Grand Olav was one of the only Nordic Choice hotels open in the city at the time. It's a charming hotel part of Clarions Collection group of hotels which means in a few words that it's old and with a certain heritage. I was checked in by a wonderful receptionist and was told I was upgraded to a suite. To my surprise it was the Ole Ivars suite, which is a Norwegian folkband. The suite was big and with views over Trondheim. It was a bit dirty, and you could tell it was worn and aging. Still, charming. Breakfast was fine, and the ameneties otherwise fine. Location is perfect.
