Im not sure why this hotel doesn't have better reviews! It is very quaint, with great vibes. The rooms are spacious. Breakfast was great. A little off the beaten path of crowded Oslo. Service was lovely, highly recommend.
My husband, adult son, and I stayed here for four nights in early April. The hotel is about 8-10 minute walk from Oslo central train station. It is an easy walk to the Opera House and Munch museum and about a 15-20 minute walk to the Fortress/Akker Bridge marina area. The front desk staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were impressed with the breakfast buffet hot and cold dishes, especially crispy bacon and non-runny scrambled eggs. They also had fries and soft and hard boiled eggs along with plenty of other food choices. The lobby has coffee/tea/hot chocolate available 24/7. The afternoon snack is lovely and the dinner that is included was also a nice home cooked meal. I would like to recognize the kitchen staff and dining workers for doing an outstanding job keeping the food stocked and friendly atmosphere in the lovely dining area. We had a spacious family room that had a separate spacious room for our adult son. His room did not have windows but he was thrilled to have his own space and a comfortable double bed. The linens and pillows were clean and comfortable. The shower was hot and had good water pressure. There aren’t a lot of restaurants or shoppettes right close to the hotel so we appreciated the food that was served at the hotel. As others have said, the hotel lacks some amenities (our room did not have a refrigerator or safe) and it is a little worn - main elevator was broken but the one by the stairs worked - but the value for the money and friendly staff made it a place where we definitely would stay again.…
the staff were super friendly and attended to our comfort. they even provided us with extra pillows as was our request. it was also nice to have dinner included in our rates so we didn’t have to worry about food. also, our rooms were cleaned daily at our request. there was tea, coffee and hot chocolate available to use in the lobby. breakfast was plentiful. dinner had variety.
Returning to the Bastion after lock-down was a nice experience. The location suits me very well, close to the city centre, close to the historic Akershus fortress, close to traportation hubs. Try out the "Vippa" food-stall, five minutes away, or the sauna boats 150 m from the hotel entrance. Friendly and helpful staff all over. Bastion really can lay claim to the term "home away from home". Defintely going back, hopefully soon.
The hotel needs to be renovated. Occasionally bad smell of sewage. We would prefer another hotel next time. 26-28 of february. Breakfast was all fine. Location: 10min walk from Oslo Central station…..
Pretty good clarion hotel. Charming old style which is the best thing about the hotel. Doesnt look like the standard hotel. Nice staff and good beds. Supereor rooms are big and contains everything one needs Great location close to the station.
The hotel was ok, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet. The interior some what dated, and the rooms small. The location is fine and the rooms are clean. Not a bad place, nothing special either so not worth to go out of your way for to stay here.
Nice and clean room (Superior double), good breakfast, convenient evening meal. Walking distance to the central station and city center. Drinks (coffee, tea, water) available during the whole day - very useful. Hotel a little bit used, but clean and well maintained.
I agree that dinner is not great but overall this hotel is great value for money. The location is excellent - about 10 minutes walk from the train station and that exceptionally beautiful Opera House. My room was small but very comfortable. It had a TV, bathroom, small frig, desk, small space to hang clothes. The view was of a wall but the room was bright, well decorated, and very quiet. There is 24 hour free and excellent coffee and tea downstairs. I interacted with a man and a woman at Reception. Both were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The man kindly directed me to dinner when I checked in because it was almost 8 pm. I was cold, tired, and hungry. I was delighted to be in that warm cozy, dining room with plenty of food. I would not have wanted to head back out into the cold and rain looking for a restaurant. The dinner is a bit of a puzzle. It is a wonderful amount of food, beautifully presented. There is a hot entre, soup, and some lovely salads. People should be singing its praises. I am not sure why there is a problem. I wondered if the food is flavored to suit local tastes - and hence did not suit mine. If that is the case and most of the guests are local then no change is needed. If however the cook is making poor choices and ruining excellent food then something should be done. Breakfast had plenty of choices and was good. The cake served at Fika was delicious. I loved my stay at Hotel Bastion, would happily return and would recommend it to others.…
This hotel has seen better times and the rating as a 4-star hotel is a joke. The hotel shows signs of wear everywhere. I paid for two nights an upgraded room. I was given a room with a great view of a small gray backyard. The room was cold without any heating as well as the bathroom was without any heat on the floor. I called the reception about the cold room, but they said I must have turned off the heater - My Fault they implied. The janitor came after and confirmed - the heater was broken. Impressing quality managment. The janitor brought me an old Biltema floor heater. The bathroom was still without heating and you have to wait several minutes for the hot water to get hot. Just like the really old days. The breakfast room was too small, and you have to wait to find an empty space. The breakfast was simple compared to other 4 -star hotels. Boiled cold eggs and really sparse with toppings for the food. Lack of staff was not able to bring enough clean dishes, glasses, and cups. I had to drink my American coffie in espresso cups. They advertise an extra evening meal. Some tacos, a greenish soup, bread and butter - I had to go to McDonald. I paid too much for a stay at a 2-star hotel. I wasn't offered any discount or compensation.…
