The Pension is very central located. The rooms on the main street can be a bit noisy, the tram and bars. I stayed in a single room, which is small, but it is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is nice, self-service, enough things to pick one... The plus is garage, which is a big plus if you are traveling by...

We had a room on the interior courtyard so it was quite quiet. Some hall noise (poor quality, old doors), Clean enough room that was actually reasonably large for downtown Vienna. Good shower, decent breakfast, nice owner. Decent location. Not a bad deal for the money if you have an courtyard room. Cheap falafel place nextdoor.

The room was more or less clean, but somehow shabby, without maintenance (badly scratched walls, in one room the inner window was broken) The bathroom was OK. Very poor breakfast. I had the feeling that they had carefully chosen the the cheapest possible sort of ham, cheese, salami and sausages. Fair price would be around 60 EU But the location...

The hotel room was clean, the shampoo/soap could improved or bring yours! The was no air conditioning so it was a sauna! Being so close to the tram stop means it can get quite loud. Breakfast was simple. I found alternative accommodations for the same price with better service and room amenities

We only stayed at Pension Excellence for one night but found the hotel staff went out of there way every time we required assistance. A friendly smile with prompt service every time. Would definitely recommend to budget conscious travellers. The only drawback was lack of air conditioning so if it's hot you might want to request a room that doesn't...

Great location, close to the center, tram stops in the front of the hotel Rooms are ok,but because of very high noise coming from the traffic on the street where the house is located, difficult to take a rest. The windows are very old,so you have all noise at yr room as no sound proof available. No air condition, either. This is big problem at...

Very attentive. Good breakfast included. Helpful in us finding the places we wanted to visit. Clean. Safe. Places to eat close at hand. Across the street from University of Vienna. Close to Freud Museum, Viktor Frankl Museum, and shopping.

The hotel is not a 4 star by American standards but it's comfortable, clean and accommodating. I was looking for somewhere away from the tourist area and where I can park a rental car. They have an underground garage and are located in a nice neighborhood with cafes, supermarkets, a pharmacy and retail shopping within a block walk. Our room...

We stayed at this pension for one night and it was worth it. Close to the city center, good price, comfortable rooms (big and clean), nice staff and fine breakfast. The receptionist suggested us some places where to eat and they were great. There's some noise from outside the window, but it all calms down after midnight when the tram...

This pension is situated close to Vienna's inner city at a busy and noisy crossroad. Ask for a room not having a window at the front of the building. It is easy to get there, even from the city center and the airport. The staff was perfect !

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
