I've stayed there 3 or 4 times, it's a great place. Down a side street from Mariahilferstrasse, it's very quiet, but close to the city centre. The rooms are comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen, spacious bathroom, all cleaned daily. The breakfast downstairs is truly excellent, everything fresh, and the staff very friendly.

I can only emphasize the previous reviews, because every word is all true! My spouse and I recently visited Vienna for 3 nights, and were very pleased at how helpful Josef was with regards to any questions we had about sights, restaurants, trains, etc. in Vienna. He gave us an excellent information booklet with maps and very good recommendations on...

My husband and I spent Christmas in Vienna in December 2005. We enjoyed staying in this family run apartment building owned and operated by Josef Walch. Josef Walch and his family made our first visit to Vienna special by providing us with extra touches such as plates of Viennese pastries/cakes left in our apartment when we returned from daily outings...

Josef Walch and his family make this apartment more like a home. We are now making reservations to stay there again this coming fall. We were there in June 2004. The bakery-cafe below the apartment, owned by the Walch's, offers a delicious breakfast of meats, cheeses, jam, various breads - more than can be eaten and coffee, coffee, coffee -...

We (husband, son and myself) spent a week and a half at this family run apartment building over the Christmas break and can't praise it enough. We opted for the one bedroom apartment with our son sleeping in the lounge. The apartment was lovely and clean with a maid coming in to clean daily. It was quiet and only an...

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighbourhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.

“No elevator. Top floor is 4 flights up. Our rooms opened on to the courtyard and were probably quieter than a street side room.”
