We stayed in the Hotel Cortina when attending a wedding in the area. The hotel was excellent, with rooms that were comfortable and well-maintained. We were upgraded to a small (2 room + bathroom) apartment, which was ideal as we had our 22 month old daughter with us. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful at all times. There are...

I find this hotel pretty good. I have come to Vienna with my husband and it was really a good choice. Our room was big, evening was renewed, it contained a small kitchen with a stove, microwave, toaster and a fridge. So, there is not a problem to have a bite here. Personal was really very friendly and location I...

I spent a wonderful week here within easy train commute to downtown Vienna. It took me about 20 minutes to travel to the center of downtown Vienna and about 5 minutes to Schonbrunn Palace by high speed commuter rail. My room was medium sized, spotlessly clean and had a mini fridge to keep drinks, cheese and other food items cold...

The hotel is very clean, exactly as shown on photos. It is 8-10 minutes walk from the U-bahn, then 20 min ride to the center. So it is about 30 min commute. It is OK for many people, but if you need to take a mid-day break for any reason, it becomes problematic. We did not buy their breakfast, it...

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
