This lovely little hotel has a great location, not far from the city centre in a thriving neighbourhood, and well served by all of the wonderful public transport Vienna has to offer - a bus straight from Hauptbahnhof took us there in 20 minutes, a tram stops right outside, and the U-bahn is a short walk away; the City Card ticket meant we could travel all over Vienna in our three days without a care! The hotel staff were super welcoming and helpful, with recommendations and advice on hand each day. We had probably one of their more simple rooms and it was perfect for us - very attractive, clean and with all we needed. The breakfast was an amazing spread (including smoothies) and was in the lovely dining room fronting the street with lots to look at. I saw reviews which complained about the noise of the trams, but if you close the double windows that really shouldn't be a problem, and for us it really added to the atmosphere of our stay in this beautiful city.…
We Stayed here for 3 nights. We arrived very late (1am) and the staff were more than accommodating. They arranged our airport transfer to make the journey that bit easier. The look and feel of the room and hotel is in keeping with Vienna and glad we didn't stay in a modern large chain hotel. Prices per night were reasonable IMHO and you are right outside the No 49 tram station which is super handy, As others have said, the rooms at the front are susceptible to noise at night but it wasn't offputting for us if anything, we quite liked it as it made us feel part of the city.
The innkeeper and her team were phenomenal. They went out of their way to make us comfortable during our stay. Helped us understand the transit system, gave us recommendations for places to eat and visit, where to get the pre-flight Covid tests. They even booked us a cab to the airport and put bagged breakfasts in our room as we were flying out very early and couldn't dine in. We stayed in two rooms for 3 nights and had a lovely time. The daily Breakfast was delicious and bountiful. The rooms were nice, though dated. Street was noisy but didn't bother us. It was an especially hot few days in Vienna when we were there so warm in room even with windows open, but we managed. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
I stayed one night at this place. While breakfast was included, my flight was super early so I expected no breakfast. However, the staff packed a comprehensive food bag (yogurt, croissants, orange juice, and a sandwich) and sent it to my room the night before so that I could have an early breakfast the next day. If you were to stay at this place and I hope you do, you might want to ask for a quieter side/room. The summer night is breezy, but if I kept the windows open, it was noisy (not crazy but some late birds passing by and talking, cars; garbage trucks ??). If I kept the windows closed, it was very quiet but hot (AC isn't common in Vienna).
I've lost track of how many times I've stayed at the Kugel, but I was so glad to get back after the pandemic. It remains a great location, still has the great rooms, and still has the most friendly and informative staff of any hotel I stay at.
Lovely & cozy place. The vintage room is just perfect. Kind staff. The hotel is very very close to the public transport. Tasty breakfast (there is also a little place outside the building where it can be taken), very good coffee.
Hotel Kugel is in a residential neighborhood yet very accessible to Vienna's historic core by tram, bus or subway. Lovely breakfasts. It rates 5 stars because of the especially helpful staff, who advised about local places to eat and even helped me get a train ticket to my destination.
The hotel is in a great location. It is a moderate walk to the center of town or you can take Tram 49 which stops in front of the hotel. Christina is a fabulous and helpful hostess, and the breakfasts were very good. The rooms do not have air conditioning which is fairly common in Europe, We stayed in early June so this was not on issue.
We have just returned from a fantastic 5 night city break. The Hotel Kugel was recommended to us by a friend. It was the perfect base for our trip to Vienna. Conveniently located for central Vienna with tram stop outside the front door when returning to hotel and 50 yards down the street when taking tram into city. Rooms are ensuite and ours looked like it was brand new. We had a mini bar, safe, television, radio, telephone, tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom had a hairdryer. The shower was good being both powerful and hot. The breakfast is buffet style. If you want hot food it is cooked to order ie bacon sausage, eggs. The products at breakfast are locally produced and are very good. Try the local breads and buns. Also try the various local apple juices. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and friendly. Front of house staff speak excellent English. The hotel has a lift. If you are looking for a reasonably priced base in central Vienna I would certainly recommend The Kugel. Something to be aware of in Vienna is that the graffiti artists have plastered the city with graffiti. Even historic buildings and some monuments have been targeted. Every area seems to have its graffiti. The area around the Kugel is no exception. Tip. Travel cards are available. We bought a 72 hour Vienna City Ticket. It gives unlimited travel on trams, underground, buses in Vienna City area. You can buy it online and download it onto an app. It also gives discounted entry to a multitude of attractions. There is also a Vienna Pass which includes free entry to attractions. Its expensive and you would have to see an awful lot of attractions to make it financially sensible. Don't confuse the City ticket with City pass. Tip. there is a vegetarian restaurant opposite the hotel. Tip. When you enter a tram or underground with Vienna city ticket or pass you do not need to scan your pass. You simply get on the tram or underground enjoy the journey then get off. Its all done on trust I was told. On the days I travelled I was never asked for my pass. If you take the train out of the city you will need a ticket and you will need to show it.…
If you're looking for a shiny modern glass and concrete hotel, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a great hotel full of character with friendly attentive staff in an excellent location, I'd highly recommend it. We stayed for three nights in a Superior Room, which was comfortable, spacious and overlooked the street. The staff were all super attentive, made sure we had everything we needed and the breakfast was fantastic. The location in the Neubau District couldn't be better and a lot of the sights are within walking distance, Spittleberg with its trendy bars and restaurants is about 5 mins walk, the Museum Quarter about 10 mins, the Naschmarkt about 15 mins and the State Opera about 20 mins. If you're not up for walking the tram is right outside and the metro is about 5 mins away. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.…
