My first acquaintance with Vienna, and my Birthday trip – it was great, largely thanks to my hotel in Vienna! Mercure Josefshof Wien surpassed my high expectations: beautiful in a very authentic way, it displays a nice blend of the modern and the traditional, both inside and outside. I'd like to point out design, cleanliness of the hotel, the expertise,...

Stayed there for two nights. Nice quality room, good beds, big shower and clean all over. Yes little "cold feeling" in the lobby but nice staff working there. Location is great, quiet side street and right in the centrum. I did not have breakfast included and look at the buffet first morning. It look ok but they charge 18 euros...

I stayed at the Mercure Josefshof for a week, and while this hotel is a 4*, it really looks and feel more like a 3*. Location: Central. Front desk: Cold, impersonal, some receptionists are extremely rude and arrogant when you ask the simplest questions - and when you raise that with management, you pretty much get the same treatment. Rooms:...

Having arrived very early in Vienna, we decided to walk from the airport train to the hotel. A very pleasant way to get our bearings but beware that it is very easy to miss the Josef Gasse from the main road. Look for the authentic British Red phone box which stands out more than the street. However the hotel was...

Visited Vienna with the main view of visiting some of the many Christmas markets that this city has to offer. This hotel provided the perfect base from which we could do this. Far enough away from the bustling city centre but close enough to casually stroll in without feeling tired from the walk. Initial impressions were very good, the hotel...

I stayed here one night for a conference. the room was big an clean and with wooden floor rather than carpet, which was great. I arrived late and the reception went very fast. the breakfast in the morning was good and plenty. Overall a nice place to stay at.

The location of this hotel is good. There is only a short walk to many sights: Neues Rathaus, Parliament, Museum Quarter etc. The U-Bahn station is near By (Rathaus U2) and if you walt to walk a little, you find also the old town. This hotel building is about 200 years old but it is totally renovated with Klimt style...

Good location with walking distance to sights like the Parliament area, Hofburg and the Spanish Riding School. Walking distance to shopping areas. Friendly, polite and service-minded staff! Negative that fried eggs were charged extra at the breakfast.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
