This hotel is not really bad, but it is a disappointment based on their four-star rating and the fact that is is part of the Mercure chain. Good points: - The room seems clean - It is reasonably quiet with no traffic noise and little airplane noise, but there is some noise from other guests - My room also had...

Dear evdk, thank you for your impressions. Your room was a small Standard room. Yes some rooms to the inner courtyard have balconies, but not all. There are bigger rooms, if you book next time a superior, Privilege room or Junior Suite. The wifi is 1 GB, to get a faster traffic for more than 150 -300 clients in the...

Nice clean and good looking hotel very close the the Rathaus Subway station. Walking distance to the city centre. The rooms were very comfortable. The cleaning was good and the beds very cozy. The decor is old fashioned but it works very well with the over-all feeling of Vienna. The staff is helpful but not very enthusiastic. Very warm temp...

Located near the City Hall, easy to go around the Old Town. The hotel is not very big but nicely decorated, with free wifi and no smoking at full hotel. The room is a little bit big comparing to other hotels; The staff very kind, Breakfast is very rich, better than other hotel I stayed during this trip. Only one...

You could easily stay at cheaper or more expensive hotels in Vienna, but this was the perfect balance and value of price, location, and luxury. We had a pleasant 4 nights here at about €100/night. PROS: -Large clean room(for Europe), with a luxurious feel and ambiance. -Location! Right next to Tram #2 and Rathaus U-Bahn. -Cappuccino maker and fridge, that...

This hotel is very well located - it's within walking distance to Rathaus and close to a metro station so it was perfect for the sights and travelling around the city. Staff were friendly on arrival and my room request was arranged. The room itself was old and dated but functional. I was on the 5th floor (which I had...

Location, location, location. This cannot be criticised at Mercure Josefshof. Located off on a side street, with rooms stacked around a small quiet courtyard, the hotel was an excellent base for excursions into Vienna. The Rathaus metro station was just around the corner, and a short walk into the old town, or to enjoy outdoor movies at the Rathaus. Up...

Nice hotel near the center of Vienna and good if your visiting the city to see the sights. Food is also good however it can get a little overwhelmed at breakfast time during busy periods so get up early. Some of the rooms are a little bit dated but I did notice on my last visit they were renovating some...

Hotel is within walking distance to a lot of major attractions. It was also close to several public transit options, which we took advantage of. We had a privilege room, which we were told was more modern than the standard rooms. It was very updated and had everything we could want/need and the air conditioning was a nice bonus. The...

Stayed in a Privilege Room, which was still small/not much room with luggage in it. However, this property is clean, in a really good location for sights/museums, has a great free breakfast, free/fast wifi, and helpful staff. The air conditioning was very welcome, too, as it was hot/humid. The towels were miniscule, though, and no washcloths. Overall, would recommend.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
