I am a huge fan of Sofitel hotels. However, this particular hotel needs major room updating. As you can see by the photo. Everything is white, glass and mirrors. I felt I was sleeping in an IKEA catalog. Bed was uncomfortable and lumpy. The only reason why I gave it 3 stars, was due to the reception area service. Did...

From the minute we were greeting coming out of the taxi, Sofitel surrounded us with warm, welcoming, thoughtful help every step of the way. Of course, the imaginative modern architecture and superb views were greatly enjoyable. And, after we left and discovered we had forgotten an important package, the staff, especially Chef Concierge Wolfgang, went above and beyond to make...

I always start my reviews with I am a high maintenance New Yorker who travels a lot, so have a lot to compare to. This hotel is in a great location and walkable to almost everything. The staff was all very nice. The restaurant - Das Loft - has ridiculous city views. They have a great buffet breakfast, but did...

I read the mixed reviews about the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom before deciding to give it a go because both my husband and love modern interior designs and wanted to check it out. I also thought being a member of the Le Club AccorHotels may make a difference. I was about to be proven wrong. We were booked at the hotel...

I stayed in Vienna for 2 nights for a business trip and sales mission. This is absolutely a fantastic hotel, very modern with good location and with the well known french touch. I stayed in a grey room, that was awesome! :) And the restaurant on the roof top Le Loft offers you a great panorama and fantastic view to...

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
