The one problem seems not to be mentioned by the top reviews: it's a solid 10-15 min walk just to get to the Rathaus, which is the very edge of the historic city center. The walk to the Kunsthistoristiches, one of the closest old city sights, was probably 25 minutes. I'm a big walker, but if you're walking around the...

What to say about Pension Baronesse... a great hidden gem! First, the location: close to the Rathaus, but enough far away so you can enjoy your sleep with distubance. The staff: AWESOME. They are kind, polite, always have a smile to share and are truly happy to help you. Not to say about the lady in the breakfast, she is...

Good place to stay. Rooms vary in size, however clean and very nice. Breakfast was excellent. Public transport is near by so you can explore the city at ease.

Our family stayed in two rooms over the new year weekend 2012 and we were very happy with the Baronesse. Sure, the rooms are not spanking new but they are large, clean and everything works. Great breakfast. Good connection (two tram stops) to old centre/Ring. Very friendly staff helped with anything we needed. This is a great place when you...

we really felt at home in Pension Baronesse. Ladies at reception desk and in breakfast room were so friendly!! Our room looked like the set of a old-fashioned Rosenkavelier: and that is positive remark! Cosy and warm. This is the place where we will stay when we come back to Vienna.

I hesitate to recommend this hotel as it is so good that you might go there at the same time as I want to return and block my booking. First the staff are very helpful and help you by providing information as to getting to places around Vienna. The breakfast staff are all very pleasant and greet you cheerfully as...

My husband and I loved this hotel/pension, on a quiet street, and the staff was fantastic! We stayed in one of the modernly updated rooms on the first floor, facing a courtyard. Never heard a thing, we were not even sure there were other guests in the hotel until going to breakfast. The bed was very comfortable, unexpectedly soft. We...

My wife and I stayed at the Baronesse for three nights in mid-September. We paid a bit more for a courtyard facing room thinking it would be more quiet and it was well-appointed and modern. The breakfast was excellent. Though I feel it is an excellent hotel, I would be remiss in my reviewing duties if I didn't mention that...

Was a business trip, so spent most of the time at a meeting. However, the rooms were very bright (the road ones) and very roomy for European standards, the bathroom however was dated and small. The room was clean and the furniture on the 2nd floor is of baroque style, so befitting Vienna! PROS: Very romantic rooms Very sting wifi...

This is a wonderful hotel. The character of the rooms is beautiful, the elevator, the floors and the high ceilings everything we were wanting to find. The staff were wonderful and always very helpful with maps to guide us through Vienna, finding restaurants and sightseeing. Everyone spoke English which was great. Breakfast was excellent - love the European breakfasts! We...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
