This place is great! The rooms are large (we opted for the 38 sq. meter room), exceptionally clean and comfortable. Our room had a view of the mountains!
The hotel is new and modern, not "quaint".

It is truly ski in/ski out, there are three lifts very close by and two you can ski to right out the front door. It is not in the center of town but that also means you won't be disturbed by traffic and drunks at night. There is a free town shuttle within two minutes walking.

Their dining room is the big surprise! The food was great! They use local suppliers of truly organic food. Every supplier is listed by name on the front of the menu.
The schnitzel is the most tender I've had in Gemany or Austria. Even simple dishes like salad and pizza are fantastic. BTW we had a salad caprese and the tomato in February was better than I get in August in the USA!
Make plans to reserve a table for raclette or fondue for at least one night.
They also offer excellent local wines at reasonable prices.
The dining room is small and the menu is not large but these are minor issues.
The included breakfast is terrific and they will make truly fresh eggs to order.

It is the smallest 4 star hotel in town so you don't get a swimming pool or large lobby and game room. (there is a nice spa and hot tub)
But, that means you don't have tons of people to deal with either. Nice and quiet and private.
It also means their rates are better than the big 4 and 5 star hotels.

I highly recommend this hotel. One last tip: order a Deep Purple gin and tonic.

Hotel Das Barbara is a delight. Run by a hardworking and welcoming family who make sure their guests are fully pampered. The rooms are large and clean. The beds comfortable. The hotel is truly ski-in-ski-out and has a good spa with sauna, steamroom, infrared and whirlpool.
The breakfast is top class!

We have just returned from a wonderful week staying at the Hotel. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and efficient, the food of the highest standard. Unfortunately my wife suffered from a ski accident early in the week when she was hit by a young skier out of control in a whiteout. This resulted in medical examinations and subsequent treatment. Herr and Frau Sager could not have been more helpful, taking us to the Doctor, aranging appointments and helping to contact our UK Insurers. Most definitely a hotel to revisit, ideal for those requiring a quiet location yet only 10 minutes from the village. Perfect for ski out, ski back.

Not one to write reviews very often but Das Barbara certainly deserves a special mention. Stayed here over Chritmas and New Year. The hotel is very special and the Sager family are fine hosts. The owners are always around and the whole operation runs like clockwork. The hotel has a really warm atmosphere and it just felt very comfortable. They have managed to retain Alpine charm whilst introducing contemporary design. Rooms are generously sized and very comfortable. Level of service is excellent and staff are friendly and most helpful. A special mention to the two ladies in the restaurant who were always smiling and just faultless. The food is amongst the best I've eaten in Austria. I'd probably only put two establishments ahead of Barbara and both have Michelin Stars. They have a very young talented chef who produces plates of food which at times were quite simply stunning. Had I been given these in a starred restaurant I wouldn't have been disappointed. This hotel has been a fantastic little find and we will certainly return.

I wanted to write this review, although we did not stay, we di use the restraunt for lunch every day that we skied. The staff were always very friendly and the food was excellent. One day we asked if they did our favourite Austrian lunch, which is sauted potatoes with onion, bacon and herbs, think it is called, Tyrol Crustal. Although it was not on the menu, the young man went ans spoke to the chef and came back to inform us that he would make it for us then and there. It was all we remembered and had a lovely fried egg on top, it was fab. There were five of us and all left ready for the afternoon ski well happy!!!

This is a great little hotel. Fabulous location next to the gondola and 2 other chair lifts, as well as ski school and kit hire. Has the feel of being in the mountains as opposed to some of the more corporate style hotels in the centre of town. Rooms are good sized and it has a nice spa. Dinner menu is limited but very well executed and good value. The hotel is also able to offer flexible dates as opposed to the standard week required by many of the larger hotels. Definitely recommend for a great value ski break.

Stayed at Hotel Barbara in dec 2018 for a family ski holiday. Our second trip to Obertauern and this hotel was a great base. Excellent big rooms and location. Very much ski in and out. Food for lunch and dinner was really good. Not a huge menu but enough to keep you satisfied for a week, pizzas and pasta are a must! Barbara also had a good spa with steam room, sauna, outdoor hot tub and relaxation area. Will definitely stay here again. Family run who are always on hand if you need anything.

Please note that the review is in fact from Feb 2015 which could not be picked. But still, the hotel has been with the family for decades.

Food, atmosphere, amenities, food, friendlyness, cleanliness. Everything just great, could not recommend more. And did I mention the food already?

Am besten empfehlen wirklich.

We didn't stay, unfortunately. But we came for dinners and the experience was just awesome. The staff went a way out of the the expected Austrian hospitality. The choice is well designed and the way it is presented is a class or two higher than in the rest of the places. The chef is a real artist. Our 7-course Christmas Eve dinner was more a piece of art than an ordinary dinner. The wine cellar is a treasure - you just need to pick up you favourite. Just can't think of minuses :-)
