We spent two nights in Melk and enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The reception was welcoming and helped us out with dinner reservations. Parking was easy. The room was spacious and the air conditioning was much welcomed on a rather hot weekend. The bathroom is very good - with more than enough shelf space for all of our things! The one negative was that the beds were really soft - that could be improved. Breakfast was good - the homemade jams were fantastic.
We stopped here for dinner when visiting Melk in September on our cycle trip along the Danube Bike Trail. There are several dining areas in the Hotel Zur Post - we were upstairs on the left side in a small dining room with the same menu as the other dining areas. We both had the creamed pumpkin soup - delicious, super hot, nice presentation with pumpkin seeds floating in the broth, balsamic swirl on top, served with a small wedge of delicious warm bread. For our main we shared the pot roast (called boiled beef on the menu) with veggies and apple sauce, very tasty. They divided the portion in the kitchen and served it to us individually; the mark of a good restaurant in my books. The complementary bread served with our meal was excellent, service was efficient and friendly, table settings and plating were well done. The restaurant is cozy, traditionally furnished and has a lovely ambiance. Good food, nice environment, friendly service - a winning combination.…
Attic room non renovated, old carpet, small, far from being 4 *. View on the roof, access very difficult, many stairs. Staff over loaded due to the music festival. I don't recommend. Very disapointing
After a longish drive from Cesky Krumlov we stopped in Melk for a bit of lunch before going on through the Wachau region. Lunch at this little pavement restaurant was great. Entertaining waiter and tasty food served quickly and efficiently
Great location, classic Austrian hotel, excellent service.. a bit old fashioned and a bit overpriced but Melk is very touristy. Good breakfast, easy to park in the paying blue zones nearby or free a bit further down the street. Overall great for a short stay..and only a few minutes walk from the Abbey. Recommended
