My wife & I have spent the last 5 days at K.H.G. Stone-Wood Cottages & strongly recommend that you do the same if visiting the Troodos Mountains.

Our flight was delayed & we arrived several hours late, well after 1.00am. As we arrived close to the cottages our sat nav decided to take a break, leaving us a tad lost. We were sure that we were close & thus drove around looking for the cottages, which are to a degree screened by landscaping. The owners had waited up for us, guessed that the car driving up & down the road was ours and drove out to find us: Great service.

The accommodation is a lovely studio apartment. It has a small kitchen, table & chairs, TV, free wifi, balcony with table & chairs, shower & toilet, great aircon, etc: Everything we need for our break. The apartment is clean, the bed comfortable, towels are provided & tea & coffee facilities, along with a welcoming home made cream caramel, were awaiting us. Costas even had a gift for my wife.

Outside the pool is great, just what is needed after a day walking & seeing the sights.

We chose K.H.G. Stone-Wood Cottages because we wanted to be away from the throng. It is quiet & relaxing, with the only sound being the birds in the landscaping.

K.H.G. Stone-Wood Cottages are located about 2km from both the small villages of Foini & Kato Platre; both within easy walking distance for us. Both villages offer a small shop & a couple of restaurants. We preferred Foini as Maria's is the better small shop & the Tavern has the best steaks in the area according to the locals we spoke to, & they were not lying: The steak & the pork chops are simply wonderful. Although Kato Platres also offers the Lambourni Winery, which is well worth a visit.

About 5km away is the larger village of Pano Platres, which offers a wider range of restaurants, coffee shops, a very good Tourism Office, banks, cash machines, petrol station, etc. We tried several restaurants & personally preferred the food at the Kaledonia Restaurant: Not posh, but offering simply great food & service at a great price.

The main reason for our visit was to walk in the Troodos Mountains. It is hot & local maps are not that good, so we decided to stick to the well signposted Nature Trails, recently set up by the Cypriot Government. We obtained maps & a guide from the Tourism Office & set out to walk at least one trail a day, along with a visit to some of the sights.

The closest Nature Trail passes just outside K.H.G. Stone-Wood Cottages, very convenient. Their are also 2 others in Kano Platres. The walk up to the Caledonia Waterfall from Pano Platres in early morning is wonderful. Then turn right onto Trail 55 & keep heading down, following signs for Psilon Dhendron until you return to the start of the Caledonia Waterfall walk. In all about 9km through a beautiful wooded valley, & then a walk around a mountain with breathtaking views. Very special.

The walks around Olympus Mountain are also breathtaking. We took the higher & shorter Artemis walk (7km) due to the heat. It is an easy walk, very level with magnificent views, although a head for heights is necessary as some of the route is a narrow track on the side of a steep slope. It is several degrees cooler at height, but I still recommend either a late afternoon or early morning walk.

The trail at Gerakies is only 4km, but is over a mountain top & is challenging in the heat: Not for the feint hearted.

Whilst in Troodos I also recommend visiting the Painted Churches, which are together a Unesco world heritage site. The Troodos visitor centre is worth missing though.

After each day walking & visiting the sites, the return to K.H.G. Stone-Wood Cottages was great. To be able to sit by the pool, relax & take a dip was a refreshing treat after the heat of the day.

Costas, Elena & Georgina are the perfect hosts: Nothing is too much trouble.

All of this & at a very reasonable price.

Some may not like to be away from the throng, but for us it was perfect. If you want peace & quiet & the independence of self catering, but still like to relax by the pool after a long day, K.H.G. Stone-Wood Cottages may be perfect for you as well.

As with other reviews this is not the Hilton, so if you are looking for luxury then go to the big cities. But if you are looking for a comfortable, well equiped room in peaceful surroundings in nature, look no further. Our hosts, Elana and Kostas went out of their way to make our stay ever so special. No request was too small- just a few examples- changed from white to brown bread at breakfast, had our boarding cards printed for us, allowed us a late check out as they were not expecting guests the same day.
Breakfast although the same each day was great and was enough for us to prepare sandwiches each day for our hikes.
We came as guests and left as friends. iF WE EVER GO BACK TO THE TRODOS MOUNTAINS WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK TO ELANA AND kOSTAS.

Reading the other reviews I found it hard to believe we went to the same place. There was no breakfast on offer or morning coffee or tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms unless a kettle was it. There was no issue with towels as many were provided.Yes Kostas and Elena were very pleasant and gave the children in our party a present on arrival which was very kind. The room we had had a hole in the bathroom ceiling and cracked and broken tiles on the outside steps. The beds were so hard I found it very difficult to sleep. The lack if an oven or microwave made self catering difficult which with young children was a big issue for us. We never found the bbq we planned to use.The pool was a great plus.

We happened to book a stay at the cottages as a last resort since we had not made any other plans for our week off our work. Long story short the staff was very responsive and the service on their behalf was excellent (while booking in a hurry we managed to miss the notice to bring our own towels and they instantly provided us with some). Rooms were comfy and well equipped with all the necessities of an apartment, although the style of the bedsheets and covers a bit dated, however worth the charge since the period we booked is considered 'high season' here in Cyprus! We also utilized the pool and its area which was a very pleasant addition to the whole experience! The only thing worth noting is that judging from the rest of the holiday occupants during our stay, the cottages seemed to attract a lot of families with small children, which is a thing to note for some people which are more oriented towards spending some 'quiet time' around the pool and other communal areas of the small development of the cottages.

I found it difficult to write this review, as the owners were very welcoming and charming. However there were some issues for concern. The location is ok, within good driving distance of many of the sights and the beautiful walks around Troodos Square. Please be aware though that shops and eateries are not within easy walking distance (especially considering that the surrounding roads are narrow and winding). As the units are self-catering, and drinking water is not supplied, you will need to bring in your own supplies. (We found the closest village shops poor and over-priced - the best places nearby were the Costa's supermarket and the excellent Sigma cafe/takeaway about 15 minutes' drive away near the B8 turn-off on the road to Limassol). The unit was a reasonable size, and quiet, with a nice view of the countryside from upstairs. However, there were a number of problems - some light switches didn't work; there was no microwave; the electric kettle didn't work; one of the bedrooms had no bedside lamp, only harsh overhead lighting; the stairs from ground level to the bedrooms were terribly steep; and we found the mattresses of both beds very hard. The most significant problem however was in the bathroom - in our unit the shower was tucked away under the stairwell, with an oversized shower curtain dragging on the floor, and a shower head that had to be hand-held, so it was very difficult to use. Also be aware that there is no cleaning of the unit or provision of fresh linen (even for a stay of 6 nights). There is a pool on site, but this was only available until 6pm, when access was locked off.

Very nice place for holiday with families. Clean and comfortable apartments. Good and quiet location. The main attractions are nearby. Real Cyprus hospitality. We stay in this hotel for the second time. The kitchen is equipped with kitchenware. The advantage of this hotel in the mountains is the presence of a swimming pool.

We spend a lovely summer vacation in the Cypriot mountains and stayed 12 days here because of the great salt (no chlorine !) swimming pool, carefully maintained by the host, which is the most hospitable person I've met in my life and his wife who surprised us frequently with great delicious treats ! Thank you so much Kostas & Elena

This is the location to stay if you plan to explore the Trodos mountains ! As the title states, you rent cottages so have full freedom for breakfast, lunch and dinner - supermarket close by.

I also see remarks about BBQ not found - just ask these friendly hosts and they bring ; same in case of challenges with the cottages (like having no Cypriot electricity supply). Great service, always helpful and kind - just the way hosts need to be for a perfect holiday.

Depending what you are looking. If you are looking for a luxury accommodation for sure this is not the place. If you are looking for a couple of days getaway in a quiet place up to the mountain, this is a recommended place. Very good location, where you can combine any activities you would like (cycling, walking up to the mountain trails, visiting nearby waterfalls). The couple running the Hotel (Kostas and Helen) were very hospitable with their own traditional way.For sure is a place that I could easily go back and spend another couple of days. Again a place for those that are looking for quiet time.

Very beautiful place very friendly people the owners! Nice location and nice scenery. The place needs some remodelling, and some updating. It is so worth it though. Very good decent prices and amazing stay. We had good time and it has very good climate!
