Hotel Cabin is a budget hotel located in Reykjavik. Our main policy has always been, to offer travellers visiting Reykjavík comfortable and economic accommodation right in the heart of the city. The standard rooms are the cheapest accommodation we have to offer and as the name implies they are very basic but comfortable. The superior rooms are bigger and come with a bathtub with a shower and refrigerator. The Superior rooms with a view are all on the hotel´s 7th floor and offer a magnificent view of the city or the ocean. They come with free wireless internet, a refrigerator, a tea- and coffee maker and a hairdryer. The hotel is excellently located within a walking distance from the city centre as well as the Laugardalur area.

Hotel Cabin is often praised for its value, offering an affordable stay with satisfactory services, though experiences may vary. The establishment is lauded for its cleanliness and cozy atmosphere, featuring comfortable beds and tidy rooms, but guests have called out the presence of noise and basic amenities. While opinions on service are mixed, many reviewers commend the friendly staff. The hotel's location is a highlight, conveniently close to the sea and city attractions. However, some travelers find the rooms quite small and the in-room features minimal.

The hotel is nice. They offer breakfast for a fee, clean your room upon request, have luggage storage if you have a late or early flight, and hot water in the shower.
However, the basic standard room is VERY small - I was traveling alone so it worked ok for me, but even with only a single suitcase, there wasn't enough space to open it and leave it on the floor. Instead I had to take the clothes out of it and transfer it to the 2 shelves and hanging hooks. If i came as a couple, I think it would be way too packed and even uncomfortable.
A minor other thing - the heater in the room isnt the strongest, and unless you leave the room while keeping it on the strongest setting, the room will be slightly cold. It didn't disturb me much though, as the bed was comfortable and warm. There is no air conditioner.

The hotel was clean but very basic, standard rooms are tiny, hardly any room to move around the bed, 2 singles pushed together with only 1 uncomfortable pillow in each. No complementary additions such as toiletries or drink making facilities. Take your own travel kettle. But even then no counter top space to use a kettle you have to sit on the floor to make a cup of coffee. Not much storage for clothes or baggage. If you are staying longer than a few nights this hotel isn't great. We were only there for 3 nights so the lack of space and facilities didn't bother us too much, if we were staying any longer it would definitely be annoying. Breakfast is very basic, bread/toast , cereal, oranges, cucumber, peppers, ham, salami hard boiled eggs and cheese but we did manage to at least eat a bit of something before our long days out on excursions. Big signs everywhere saying do not take food away from the breakfast area! Fine I get that but I think the hotels ban on filling water bottles up is a bit harsh especially as iceland is proud of there natural free water source. We had to pay for crap Costco water from the hotel at £3 a bottle on our first day. If your excursions are starting at BSI terminal they have a free water machine and the water is lovely. Take your own refillable bottles to save on expensive water you have to buy ahead of your day trips.

Rooms aren't cleaned , beds made up or towels changed if you are only staying a few nights.

For evening snacks the petrol station across the road serves hotdogs and hot/cold sandwiches and drinks at a reasonable price. It does close at 8pm though as seems to quiet a lot of places in reykjavik. I guess it's just so cold late at night nobody wants to be out and about

Hotel Cabin is a budget hotel and you get what you pay for. I feel that the price we paid for the accommodation was well over the top, not the hotels fault but the greed if the tour operator. So beware if booking through a UK tour operator, our 3 night break flying with easy jet cost £1.150, booking.com or direct booking with hotel £70 per night maximum for March.

If your planning excursions then I recommend reykjavik excursions and pay a little extra for pick up and drop off at the hotel, it gives you a little more time on a morning for breakfast as the terminal is a good 30 min walk in the cold and its easy to loose your way.

Wrap up warm, take thermals, good walking trousers, warm coats and don't forget gloves hats and snoodes the wind chill is extreme. The location is a 30 minute walk to downtown reykjavik but close to the waterfront

Iceland is an amazing place full of interesting geography and worth the trip, hotel cabin is more like a hostel than a hotel so if you don't mind that you will be fine.

Family of 5 we enjoyed our stay wasn’t so impressed with the check in at all in fact the lady who checked us in I didn’t actually notice her name as it was the worst check in I’ve ever experienced from any receptionist. So the travel agent had booked me 2 rooms with 4 beds the receptionist no way was was going to help and just give us the room with the extra bed in she was only interested in money from the very start of the check in mentioned about a tourist tax that was introduced on the 1st of January insisted I had to pay this because hadn’t been included on the booking previously no fault of mine we had been travelling for hours and all she wanted was extra money for the bigger room and the money for the tourist tax she is rude.
When we finally got the key she didn’t even tell us the breakfast times or did she fail to give us a map of the local area very disappointing service from her.
Next all the other receptionist staff are completely different to her they can’t to enough to help you show you on a map where places are recommended the local swimming pool which is 10 minutes walk up the road from the hotel and very cheap to use with lots of hot tubs sauna jacuzzi great place open until 10pm.
The hotel is clean well looked after breakfast is nice and healthy porridge toast jams cold meats cheese and salad juices available tea and coffee the yogurt is delicious with a drizzle of honey we all enjoyed the fact it was healthy spread of food some of the rooms are small but it’s only a room for getting some rest after a fun day out so with this in mode it’s a great reasonable place to stay. I wish I had got the lovely young lads name of the reception team blonde hair brushed back just want to say your amazing at your job so helpful thanks for telling us about the cinnamon bun shop in the town just down from the church they are delicious Icelandic icecream is also good which he recommended we try he’s a great asset to the hotel cabin he’s there to help you have the best time you possibly can so thanks very much for a lovely stay we would definitely stay again if we came back as for the check in lady have some consideration to travellers who have left home many hours before arrival don’t be so desperate for money have some kindness and consideration for travellers.

Booked 3 nights at this hotel arrived on Saturday afternoon very helpful staff very very helpful. Any questions you had they would answer it any bookings that you had. They would answer it. Any questions you had. They would phone up the company and just double check if you booked in excellent communication. Everyone spoke English very well, the rooms are a wee bit small but you’re not here to stay in the room. You are out all day and maybe in the night time you can go out again the breakfast is not a hot breakfast but it’s a Continental breakfast toast and cheese yoghurt, which is more than enough very very clean and tidy lots of people here which was really good if you booked and pick you up here it’s really close to everywhere and you’re usually the first person to be dropped off at your hotel. Secondly if you are if you’re thinking about bus stop bus stop there is bus stop 12 is the closest one to us up to the old town takes about 35 minutes. You can either walk straight down there seafront which is an amazing walk with amazing scenery. The hotel is comfortable. It’s a reliable staff 100% here for you. Answer all your questions telling you the best things are you don’t keep buying bottles of water tapwater is better they have kettles hairdryers clean towels. If you want your towels clean and your room cleaned you have to tell them I couldn’t this hotel and if I’m coming back again, I would definitely 100% stay at this hotel as it is central to everywhere a nice walk up to the main town , I’ve had such an amazing time in Reykjavík we’ve seen the Northern Lights we see we went well watching we saw humpback whales we saw seals. We went on a whole day trip yesterday which is amazing 100% I’ll be back because it’s an amazing place just make sure you have your thermals boots, warm coat hat gloves, some days really cold and some days I’m not so cold but evenings are very cold the hotel cabin I would 100% stay here again I couldn’t thought my stay it’s been great I would say things are quite expensive here if you could bring some little snacks with you do so as things are quite expensive they have a dominoes a subway. We had fish and chips down at the harbour. Amazing with eating some great food

I went on this trip with school and To start off with the rooms and the restaurant looked nothing like the photos that are advertised and we were very disappointed with the room. When we entered our room we noticed they were extremely small and there were multiple things wrong. The bed frame was broken, the door for our bathroom didn’t close properly and was very stiff, the bathroom was also very small, and the light in there barely worked. There was also a weird smell in the room. The lampshades were very wobbly and the screws were coming out, And in a lot of rooms the windows led into the corridors. The tv also did not work and when I poured a glass of water from the sink in the bathroom it had bits in it. When we used the shower it was impossible to get the right temperature as the water was either scolding hot or freezing cold. There was also a Hole in the one dovet.

When we left the rooms to go and eat I realised I had left our card in the room and when I went to the reception to ask for a new on the woman looked extremely annoyed and gave me the death stare. When trying the cards they did not always work and can easily lock you out of your room.

The food was easily the worst food I have ever eaten. There wasn’t many options for food and we had the same options each night. The pasta was freezing cold and didn’t taste nice. The second night they offered some sort of breaded chicken however it was fully raw and pink. You can see in the photo below. When we got up to get a drink the dispenser gave us sparkling water instead of coke. The lady in there was also extremely rude as she yelled at someone for putting there plate in the wrong place. She also was moving tables that people were sat at and when they questioned it said “your not childeren” she also looked miserable.

When we finally decided to go to sleep there were members of the public (a different school) running around, playing music, screaming and yelling inappropriate things.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel as it is not a nice place to stay and is definitely not worth the money.

By no means was the loveliest hotel I have ever stayed it - but it was certainly very good value for money. The hotel was clean and warm and I certainly wasn’t visiting Iceland to spend three nights in the bedroom so the small windowless room was absolutely fine. The shower was wonderfully powerful and hot - just what we needed after a day in the cold. There was a good array of food at breakfast and the reception staff were very pleasant and spoke perfect English. Even better the hotel had a carpark so we did not have to pay the extortionate rates that other hotels require.

Great hotel and staff. Rooms are clean and basic. I booked a superior room and felt it was worth extra. Most tours pickup at this location and the covered bus stop is next door. Breakfast (7am-10am) above average for the price. Mini mart is across the street, but Krónan supermarket is one block that has everything at a reasonable price. There is a city geothermal pool/spa that is 6 blocks away. Breakfast included boiled eggs, porrage, breads, pasties, cereal, ham, salami, cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, jams, peanut butter, oranges, yogurt, tea, juice and coffee/expresso. Dinner salad buffet with a couple of hot entrees (drink included) is from 6-8pm is $18, was good for the price range. Hotel had a evening bar and ample seating in the common area. A lot of school/athletic groups use this hotel. Lenny at the front desk, so nice. Every staff member encountered was pleasant. Recommend

Excellent hotel facilities for it's pricepoint

We were a school party of 8 adults and 76 students - 14-19 October 2024

The Cabin hotel is well managed and check-in was efficient, breakfast items replenished quickly, rooms clean, quality linens, powerful showers etc

Good location, close to seafront promenade and walking distance to restaurants and shops.

Lots of tourist information available in Reception, a large lounge seating area worked well for assembling our group

Packed lunches and evening meals can be provided but we only had breakfast - btw the Danish pastries are excellent

For it's pricepoint it is excellent value, well set up for large groups, if I were to revisit Reykavik on a couples break I would however select a different hotel.

This hotel as your base would be a great choice. Rooms are not huge and I'd say it's simple, we're talking, for twin beds, just them plus shelf and the nightstand on the other side, actually heating radiator, a TV, hanger in front of bathroom doors (You of course also have outlets). In the bathroom you got a sink with a mirror, small shower and a toilet. Hotel offers breakfasts from 7 to 10 which, comparing the price to icelandic reality, wasn't really expected, especially when we mention that the food was nice. Staff working there was helpful and beside Icelandic, they knew English (some of them also Polish). There was an incident when we lost one of our room cards, heading to reception I was prepared to hear the price but instead my man just needed information for the room and voila it's done. If you're wondering whether it's worth staying here for longer - depends on the budget and if you're used to fancy places, usually unnecessarily equipped with a gym or other facilities that you won't even visit. It's just one street away from the seaside and still, there are beautiful views you can see right through the window, not so far from the store, Polish and Chinese embassy, around 2 km / 1.3 miles from Hallgrimskirkja. Considering those above-mentioned I would say it's totally worth it, unless it takes two plane seats for you to travel u will sure be able to move in the room.

We weren't aware of how BASIC this hotel is! On arrival we asked for an upgrade only to be told that we couldn't if we were staying longer than one night(?) and they had a group of "children" arriving the next day,
Our room was nothing more than the size of a broom cupboard, twin beds pushed together with 2 very small duvets that when I turned in bed I got a draft , I'm sure they were child size duvets ,there's a fitted unit one side for hanging clothes and on the order side a very small bedside table. Plus a stool on top of the hanging unit .There is a window BUT it opens into the hallway! Yes the hallway! Which is very strange because one evening I had to ask a young couple to move away because they were arguing outside and were very loud and animated!
The beds were very comfortable.
There is a restaurant but it's very difficult to get a straight answer from reception as to what is on the menu and what time you can eat although apparently you don't need a reservation.
A young man at reception told us that we can eat after 7pm and to just go into the restaurant, the food (he said) was definitely soup and possibly steak. We arrived at 7.10pm to eat only to be told they'd eaten at 6pm and that it was only for the "children" !
I was told that it is a budget hotel and "geared up" for young travellers when I complained about the mix up with the restaurant times I also had to remind them that we are paying customers too!
Breakfast left a lot to be desired, porridge was thick and very stodgy and stuck to the ladle, there's cold meats, yoghurt, boiled eggs, fruit, cereals and a toaster plus the usual tea/coffee machine. If you do decide to stay in this "hotel" then book a better room better still BOOK ELSEWHERE!
We stayed here in March for 4 days, I do recommend Reykjavik tour company if you want to book any excursions.
If you get a chance, visit the Volcano lava show because it's amazing

I don't believe they do family rooms. Rooms tend to be for a maximum of 2 people because they are tiny.

We asked to upgrade when we got there and saw the rooms and got a very curt response that they were full. We’d emailed before going and although they responded, the answers were pretty equivocal—we were trying to see if we’d be able to check in early, and it wasn’t until we got there that we found out they could, for a fee and if a room was ready, but we’d already paid for an extra night so we could check in at 8 am.
